Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club

About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

Awesome course
Finally got to play the 9 hole, oak tree, and just like spruce and dogwood it was great! Course is very well kept and laid out perfectly. Awesome for intermediate players like myself because of the fact it’s one of the more open courses in the area.
Pretty good but layout isn't great
I can see the new management is trying hard to improve the course (new carts, ball cleaners, and etc.) but the layout doesn't work. Some halls are too narrow and hilly... Holes are too close to each other so you constantly hear people yelling fore and see other people looking for balls in your hole. It's hard to escape from his course without seeing a ball or two flying over your head.
owner let out a fivesome
So till the starter let us move nines to avoid
the fivesome.
Great shape
New carts. Greens in great shape.
Coarse was clean of all fall debris
Happy New Year!!! 2025 LFG!!!!!!
Beware of fake out hot deal
Nothing is worse than pulling up to a new to you course on GN fully paid round ready to play only missing in the fine print the cart wasn’t included. 30 more bucks. The bag drop and the pro shop were up a hill and around the back. Ugg
Always improving.
Nice to see the ownership consistently spending money to revamp both the course and the club house amenities. Could lose a few more trees to allow some more sunlight in certain areas to aid with the grass growth. Overall solid layout and greens were rolling great.
Course
Golf was clear and well manicured. Greens were very fast and hard but very well maintained. Only issue was golf cart was dirty
Decent Value But Pack Lunch
The course was in good shape, including greens, and the staff were super friendly. The beverage cart only came by twice and didn’t have any food. There were only hot dogs at the bar. Overall, decent value.
Did not play
Turns out they had a 200 person outing going out just before us
Would have been nice to know that ahead of time
We did not want to play a 5+ hour round so we requested a refund which was provided
