Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club

About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

Good course
Nothing else was available day before. This is a good last resort course you can book the day before.
Decent a little overpriced
Greens we’re beat up and slow. I didn’t play well. Playing partners were mean and took my money.
Not worth the price
Paid $96 worst value I’ve ever had on a course 6 hour round, backed up 2 groups on every hole and the greens were absolutely terrible ball was jumping all over the place. Not worth it save your money
Terrible Greens, no cart service!
The greens are currently (mid August 2024) in terrible condition… we were trying to get a morning tee time locally at the last minute on the night before and this course was the only one that was available. The only reason we can figure it out is that the condition of the greens was keeping other knowledgeable locals away. It’s a nice layout, pace of play was really good, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. But I’m not going back until someone can verify for me that they’ve repaired the greens. Also, I was hoping and expecting that we might be able to get some beverages and snacks while on the course, but we never saw a cart person; Not a game changer, but definitely disappointing.
Greens Suck
Course is in terrible shape and not worth the price
Slow & Poor Greens
Somehow it was over a 5 hour round even with 3 different 9 holes. Starter decided to have us wait behind a group to tee off when the other tee box was open up until we tee’d off 15 minutes later. Slowest round with no ranger keeping pace of play. Greens were in terrible condition. New management decided to make the price $100 but keep the same poor conditions. Not worth the insane price and slow pace. Will not be back unless the price, pace, and conditions change.
Friday afternoon Golf
Three nines, was shocked making turn when group a different group was in front of us ! The were very slow, two hole open in front of them and they wouldn’t let us pass.
No good
For sure the worst course for your dollar you can play right now. Pay the extra 30 and play Windwatch. Greens have dozens of ball divots and dirt spots. Tee boxes were a war zone. Starter put out a 2 sum in front of my 4 sum, and then puts a 2 sum behind us. Will not be coming back for $98. Not good
5 hours
Always a great day when you’re golfing. 5 hour rounds are not. Course was crowded due to walk ups being mixed in with scheduled tee times.
Greens need help.
Course is long and challenging. the fairways and tee boxes were in good condition. The greens need a lot of help. I’ll definitely look forward to coming back once the greens are leveled and cleaned up.
Great shape . Kevin the starter always friendly .
