Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

It’s ok here
The courses are in decent shape. The starter has a serious attitude problem. Once you get past him it’s an enjoyable round.
Crazy slow
Tee time was around 12. Every hole we had to wait 20 minutes at least. there was no ranger or someone... just finished 11 holes by sunset.. never gonna come back ... horrible manage of play pace
Billt
Course was in great shape. The group in front of us had a hole and a half open most of the time Summer rates in November are not appropriate
Nice course in middle Suffolk.
Haven’t been here for a long time but definitely can’t wait to come back
Horrible Starter
Not one to leave a review like this, but it must at least be addressed. When arriving to the course, the views are incredible, beautiful course and long driveway up. After getting our cart and heading to the starter we were greeted by 7+ carts backed up. Our tee time was 1:44 we did not get onto the tee box until 2:05. Each hole in the front 9 we waited 10+ minutes to tee off. After finishing our first round we then approached the starter because the line for the back 9 was 3 carts deep. We kindly asked if there were any players on their 3rd course and he told us “no it is completely empty” (which it was and we knew so by driving past it) it was hard to believe the starter was not sending anyone to that course to play. It caused us to barely finish our back 9 due to the fight against the sunlight. Unless the course has a better way to split the times up, I will not be returning to this course after driving an hour for it!
Overbooked
We got to the course and there was a huge line at the starter. They clearly booked more teetimes then they could squeeze in. Spoke to management to try to get a refund before we started the Round and they refused to give our money back. We proceeded to play what was on pace for a six hour round And bailed after nine holes. The Ranger we spoke to said that management is stingy and will never give a refund, And the starter confirmed that six hour rounds are the norm for this course. This is a very expensive public course and Definitely not worth the money.
The course itself was nice but I would rather play in inferior course And not wait 15 minutes between shots.
I recommend any of the other nearby courses instead.
Great Shape/Slow Pace
Middle Island is always a fun course to play but it's always overbooked with very slow pace of play. The course is in very nice fall condition. Enjoyable round.
Glad to be out there
Course is in good shape second time I played here in 3 weeks. Starter was a little grumpy but we didn’t let that stop us from having a fun round. No one in front of us or behind us let us take our time. Price personally is a little high but tee times are readily available.
Not worth it
Was only tee time I could get with the popularity of golf being up. Driving range is not good. Putting green had dead spots. Starter was confused and contradicted which mines and how soon we were to go. Given the time of year other courses were in great shape. Not here. Dead spots on tees, green and fairways. Pace was only good thing. Not worth the $88.00 greens fee.
