Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

Mid island - Pretty good, but...
Nice track! Played Oak and Spruce. Fairways and greens were in pretty good shape. Good pace. Only real complaint was the sand traps were in bad shape. There really wasn’t sand in them, rather dirt or hard mud. In short, traps were brutal. Also, around and off the greens, better maintenance is needed as there were lots of holes and bare patches. Finally, minor point, no drink/food cart came till 14th hole. Thanks.
Always glad to get out on a weekend
Course in good shape greens were very good pace of play spoiled by a very slow group ahead of us and no rangers to move them along
Course is in great shape Not overly challenging but very enjoyable to play Good shots are rewarded while bad shots are punished but not severely
The course has made a lot of improvements
The course is I nice shape. Hopefully the clubhouse improvements continue but it has a ways to go. I wish the owners the best of luck
Nice Sunday Afternoon of Golf!
Great course. Each time I go, the course gets better. New bar area and outdoor patio are great. Kudos to the new owner(s) for the job they have done since taking the course over years ago.
Got fooled when I saw "Country Club"
Clubhouse is non-existent, Pro shop is pretty much non existent as well. No beverage carts around the golf course. Not sure if they have a restaurant/snack bar at the course. They did sell some instant breakfast sandwiches in the proshop.
The course was a disappointment as well. Bunkers have a little to no sand in them. Greens were rolling true but they were very very slow. Greens felt "spongy" if that makes any sense.
The layout of the course is actually nice. Challenging doglegs and some par 4's are long if you play from the tips. Water hazards on some holes. This course would be a gem if they do some maintenance on it.
Management
The management is not friendly or professional. They only favor some people!
Don't bother Because Sun sets Early here
This place closes at 6pm EVEN WHEN THE SUN SETS AT 7:15. If your like me and want to squeeze in 18 after work or late in the day, you expect to play until dark. Not at Middle Island. 6pm is time for them to go home and count their $. Unreal. Thank God there are 144 golf courses on Long Island that DON'T have bank hours. Adios
Great course & value
Picked a perfect time and day to play. Finished in 3-1/2 hrs. They have a few 9 hole courses to play.
Condition
Course in great shape for January price good friendly staff but bathrooms need to be attended to
