Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

GREAT COURSE. ONLY PROBLEM IS THE STARTER SHOULD WAIT 15 MINUTES BETWEEN GOLFERS.
Nice course
We played the course 11/4. Course was in nice shape and pace of play was fine. We’ll definitely return.
Middle Island Round
Nice layout and course, The greens were recently aerated but they ok for putting
Course alittle beat up can’t help fighting Mother Nature . The greens are in good shape BUT FOR EVERY GOlFER if you land on the green FIX YOUR BALL MARK AND RAKE THE SAND TRAPS think of the next golfer
Nicely kept
Course has a nice layout. Challenging as fairways are not wide. Greens are not in great shape due to golfers not fixing divits
Honest review
Starters are rude and unprofessional. Course is overall in good shape. Not worth the money.
Quick round
Nice local course in good condition. The greens did have a lot of ball marks but other than that everything else was nice. Can’t complain about finishing 18 in 3 hours.
Good experience
Convient course. Decent condition but too much crabgrass and bunkers weren’t in best condition. Staff very nice
Meh
Every green had a billion ball marks on them. Two guys were were paired up with didn't fix one ball mark. Couldn't take a hint when I repaired their ball marks right in front of their faces. Bunkers aren't maintained. Rained last night, you would think they would have crew out early to rake bunkers before play began but that didn't happen. Other golfers didn't rake bunkers either. Just about every bunker that I passed had at least a few foot prints in them. Most bunkers also full of a variety of little pebbles up to full rocks about half the size of golf balls. You also need a sledge hammer to get the ball to roll all they way to the hole on the greens.
Temps were in the 90's and the course did not have any water available on Spruce or Dogwood courses. Place was packed, had a time for 8:16am and didn't tee off until about 8:30am. Through the first six holes there were at least 3 groups on each hole.
Wow! Sticky humidity day I was playing
All holes of 18 were perfect shape. All levels of golfers should be like them, but greens were not pefect. Some of greens were so slow and others were little more faster than slow green. If this golf course wants to be favorable course for golfers, they have to fix this problem. They must hire green keepers to do their job. Except green, everything was perfect for playing golf in humid day.
fix those ball marks
The course was in great shape I just wish players would fix their ball marks
A challenge
Played spruce and dogwood. The course is more challenging then it looks. The course was in very good condition.
Middle Island Round 3
I have played here each of the last 3 decades multiple times but never regularly and it has gone through multiple owners and varied conditions. Driving in it is unspectacular and the parking lot and clubhouse are outdated and not well maintained. However the course is in above average condition and the greens roll well. It is not crowded and pace of play is good as long as those in front of you keep the pace. Not a lot of interaction with rangers and golfers tend to be less experienced so you can run into a slow group. Good course
perfect day at middle island cc
greens a little slow but the ball rolled perfectly.
Fairways ,tee boxes all maintained.
Very Nice Afternoon
It was a hot day so the course was pretty quiet. We played as a foursome with one golfer who was a beginner. By the time we reached the back nine there were very few foursomes on the course. Finished in 4 hours. Fairways and greens were in very good condition. No cart girl and few amenities at the clubhouse.
The starter called Sal Cooper is terrible
We finished 9 holes in Dogwood in 2 hours because our twosome started the tee time at 6:48am. The starter called Sal Cooper made us waited for 1 hour 45 minutes before we could start another 9 holes. We paid $68 prime time rate to play only 15 holes in 5.5 hours mostly due to the long wait between the two 9 holes. We could not continue as we needed to go somewhere. The starter Sal Cooper's poor management of distributing players to the three 9-hole courses ruined our mood on a perfect golf day. Instead of following the order of play based on tee time and the turn around time from 1 course to another course, he chooses who he likes to cut the waiting line.
