Oak Tree/Spruce at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. It is one of Long Island's most popular public golf courses. It sits almost right at the center of the island, surrounded by the Lustengarten Nursery. The holes are divided into three nines and played as different 18-hole combinations. The Oak/Spruce Course begins with the shortest of the three nines, but there are some tricky doglegs that can make it play longer than what it says on the scorecard. Middle Island's Spruce nine was renovated in 2008, which added an island green on the par-4 seventh and more tee boxes to allow for women, seniors, and championship play. It's the most player friendly of the three nines, with wide fairways and generous greens that give you the freedom to grip it and rip it.

Classic mature country club
Middle island is a classic mature country golf club. Well maintained, generous fairways, guarded greens, which have lots of undulations.
Overpriced
Too expensive for level of course. Courses will continue to close until they realize that the cost of playing golf is just too expensive.
see review
nice course-need to cut the greens
need to clean up the bunkers
Great Course
Played this course for 20 bucks with a friend and it was awesome.
Would definitely play this course again when I can. Bring at least two bottles of water to stay hydrated.
this course is in great shape!
Haven't played this course in years, but can't wait to go back and play it again.
Good Value!
I was met by the Starter and put on the Spruce instead of the Dogwood nine. I think he did that to get me onto the course quicker than playing on the course I thought I would be playing. I played the front nine alone in about 11/2 hours. And the back nine in about 2 hours even though I had a two foursomes in front of me and a foursome behind me. I was impressed by the pace of play. I'm going back to this course because it was fair and challenging.
Great local muni
Course keeps getting better kudos to the whole crew keep up the good work
Middle Island Golf Club
Golf Now booked the course and charged my credit card a reservation fee of $5.00 - they also guaranteed me a green fee plus cart of $75 - when I got to course the cashier said he would give us the going rate of $55 for green fee and cart and would not hold us to the Golf Now rate of $75 - I will never use Golf Now again!
Early round
Played very early in the season the oak and spruce courses specifically. The greens were still sanded from the opening of the year and so it's hard to judge the quality of them
love the course,hate the weather!
The front 9 was great! But on the 10th hole, winter arrived along with 30mph winds and a cold rain.Blew all the leaves onto the fairway and had a hard time finding balls hit dead straight.
GREENS WERE IN GREAT SHAPE
The greens were in great shape. No signs of aeration. Played 18 in 4 hours at 9:00 tee time. Very unusual for Middle Island.
The course was in great shape. The new owners have really done a good job. Still not happy about not having some place to hang out and eat and drink afterwards.
The price is right!!!!!
Greens were in great shape!!!! Fairways manageable!!!!! Bunkers need a little work . Overall play was fast and enjoyed ourselves!!!!!!!
Very good day
Flexible starter offered other course options to avoid backups and at the turn. Everything was in great condition, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens.
Excellent course, it was great to play
Enjoyed, will go back, Had a great golf day This was an excellent value
Course is challenging and fun
Great course but just like all other courses nowadays a little steep in price for the average Joe
Course in great shape- great value for money
I have played Middle Island before and dealt with the aeration issues and such as others have mentioned, but decided to go back and am glad I did. My friend and I played 18 holes, Spruce to Dogwood, and have to say the courses were in fantastic condition. The greens were in great shape but could be a bit faster, no big deal. I was surprised on how empty the course was but the starter said that we were there on a slow day. We played 2 balls a piece and still played in under 4 hours. And with a 7:36 tee-off the price was only $50 with a cart! I will definitely be playing here again this season.
Mix and match.
I just love this course. I've been playing here since the 1960's when I played with my mom and dad and we all pulled our clubs because carts were too expensive. Every time I play here it brings back such nice memories. The course is in great condition and they keep making it even better.
I like the fact that all 3 courses are different enough to make it very interesting and challenging.
The staff is just fabulous and with Golf Now the hot deal prices are just awesome !
It doesn't hurt that it's only 15 minutes from my house either.
In the words of an old tv commercial " Try it, you'll like it ! "
3 hrs and 45 min round.
3 hr and 45 mins for a round? what's there to complain about. Course was well kept, it did have spots on the fairway which was roped off due to water drainage issue and the locker room needs to be updated. Other than that, fastest round i have ever played.
Greens need to be cut and rolled. Greens are very soft and slow.

This course has great character.
Each hole is different and interesting to play.
The greens were in perfect shape.
The speed of play was faster than the average course on Long Island.
