A lot of potential, but overall falls flat, and wet.
The staff was very friendly but it definitely seems like the course was at one point, a much better venue. Granted we have had a wet week leading up to our round, but I've played several other courses during the same period and the water barely effected those places.
We're talking almost every step water is coming up over your golf shoes kinda wet. Naturally this meant the fairways were an absolute mess and then to add to the issues, many greens were very patchy and in need of a lot of help.
Overall, at 39$ for 18, it's actually pricier than nicer, drier courses that I've played, so I probably would not recommend this course as there are plenty of other options.
The course was in excellent conditions, Wes and Lauren were very professional and friendly, they make sure I had a pleasant time there. If you are traveling in the region you definitely need to check-it out
Pleasantly surprised!
In town for a wedding party. Greeted with a smile in the pro shop- a lost art these days. Teed off early without issue. Played through a foursome on the 3rd hole. Again without issue. Course was fun, challenging, and in more than adequate shape. Very inexpensive making this a great value. Played in 3.5 hours on a Saturday morning! and we took our time. Nice service at the turn..really can’t ask for much more!
Great greens
Course was quite wet but the greens were fantastic has some cool holes
Worth the drive.
The course is in excellent condition considering the weather we've had this summer. Some areas of fairway are burnt out but the areas are few and small. The staff is friendly and the price was great (33 for 18 and cart). Definitively will play again. The challenge of Rome Country Club is the greens are small and some are guarded by water (creeks or ponds). Your chipping game will definitely get a workout. The greens are fairly firm, flat and they roll true.
Great Course, great Staff
It's a parkland style course with two distinct 9 holes. The front is fairly wide open and friendly. The back tightens up with a beautiful signature par 3. The greens are plenty fast enough for their undulating qualities (watch out for 1&17). There is a fun atmosphere in the clubhouse with a great food and drink selection. Definetley worth the drive from Syracuse.
Old beauty showing its age but still worth a look
Located at the foothills of the Adirondacks, this course was originally a wide-opened 9 hole layout with brooks throughout. Another nine holes were carved out of up and down hilly terrain consisting of several doglegs requiring more shot precision than the front.
Course has not aged well with occasional bare spots and some eroding cart paths. Still the interesting course design and modest fees merit a visit to this club.
