Nice course, slow play
Moved extremely slow. Rangers need to enforce group size. There were too many two-somes, slow groups, and no one to help move things along. I’ve played here before and have had no problems. Perhaps today was an exception? Regardless, I’m very disappointed.

A Refurbished Gem
Like most public courses, Saxon Woods has had good times and bad times. This is a good time. The course has a classic design by an under-appreciated architect (Tom Winton) which has remained intact, thanks, in part, to recent efforts to push back tree encroachment and enhance drainage. The course requires thoughtful shot placement as it wends through heavily wooded areas on the front nine and a flatter back nine that incorporate natural streams and marshland. When we played, the course was in excellent condition - from well-sodded tees to consistent, healthy greens. Although only 6,300 yards from the back tees, you will use every club in the bag. The three par 5s are notable, as each is broken up into segments differentiated by mounds or brooks which require careful shot placement before final approach shots. The par 3s all incorporate significant elevation change and the par 4s include both shorter tactical and lengthy uphill holes. Lots of variety!
Best of all, we teed off at 8:00 on a busy Friday morning and finished at 11:45.

Great local course
Despite a packed course, pace of play was brisk. Course is in excellent condition and very challenging at times. Driving range set up is a little weird but it still works

Great for the money
Overall it’s a pretty open course with a few exceptions. The layout is nice and the course conditions were excellent. Pace of play was a little slow but I played on a sunny Saturday, I expected it to be a tad slow. Will definitely play here again soon.

Slow
It was not a great weather day so the thought would be the pace would be good. Not the case. We had a foursome in front of us teeing off from the back tees. Almost every hole they would tee off multiple times. They created a back up of 4 groups behind us. Reported to the ranger but all we err told that they were going to pick up the pace. Didn’t happen.
