Terribly run, extremely slow. 3 hours for 9 holes.
I play this course because it’s convenient but at this point it is just not worth it. The starters (doesn’t matter which one) might as well be a big of sand since they don’t move nor care to keep the pace of play up. Instead of sending people off in the foursomes they book, he will just send out whoever in the order they get there, leading to more tee times than schedules and things like groups of 2, 3, 3, and 4 instead of the three groups of 4 that were booked. I know because twice I asked the players teeing off around me what their tee times were and this was the case. It also doesn’t help that the front desk guys send anyone who shows up out even on a packed day with no open tee times, and the “rangers” might as well not exist. Last two rounds I played I teed off a half hour after my time (after getting there early) and it took THREE HOURS to play NINE HOLES!

Sprain Lake is my home course
I have played Sprain Lake for many years and know the owners based on my playing there. This course has always been a favorite as it isn't one of the longest but course management is key to lower scores. The owners put a lot of money into the course around 5-7 years ago and I always like to see courses continuing to improve the layout. The staff are very friendly and run a tight ship there. Play can be a little slow to start (first 4 holes) but moves along after that. They also have a great indoor/outdoor patio to enjoy refreshments and good food afterward.

Rude staff
Course is fine but as usual there is always an issue with the staff at some point during the visit. This time was with the cart return person who demeans and insults you when you ask for your key deposit back at the end of the round. He assumes that it’s supposed to be his and when you ask for it back he gets nasty and begrudgingly returns it with insults. It leaves a bad feeling leaving after having a confrontation.
Go elsewhere where the staff have some respect for paying golfers.

Sprain
Course conditions were good overall. Some greens cut thin with sand on them. T-boxes and fairways were lush green. Pacd of play was good for the 1st nine then came to a stop at #10. It seemed they added a foursome or two starting at 10. Made for a long round...3 hours on the back.

2 different attitudes
It was our first time at Sprain . One person at the front desk (who finally took care of me) was very kind, attentive, personable and helpful. The other made me wait, took care of someone else on a separate issue and then finally told me I was standing at the wrong desk.

Good public course
Sprain Lake is a little bit slow moving but not too challenging it is in decent condition and everything goes according to plan helpful staff and you’ll get out on time
