Sprain Lake Golf Course

I played this course many years ago and for the money this is probably one of the best county courses you can pl;ay. Very picturesque and many course improvements. Pace of play was over 5 hours but the morning rain nay have contributed to the overcrowding for the afternoon rounds.

First time play here. My friend said it’s layout is not good. But everything is much better than I thought. I don’t find many good course like that around New York

Water comes into play on a few holes. Well maintained layout. Careful club selection from the tee on holes 3, 6, 11, 12, and 17 required as hitting too far, too straight could be trouble. The greens, at least on this day, seemed much slower than other county courses. Started @ 2:30 and finished @ 7:00. This is the exception. I’ve played lots of 6:00 super-twilights and getting in 9 holes can be a challenge. Sometimes you can go from 8 to 13 & 14 then back to 8 & 9, but more often than not you have to stick with the traditional sequence. Nice pro shop and grill. Would be great to have starters at 1 (thru 6:30-7) and 10; I’ve seen players complete the front nine then come back to do it again because the back is “too slow’” making our Twilight time a snail’s pace. And seen ppl who start their twilight at hole 10. I’m comfortable walking the front with a pull cart at twilight, but ride during day/full rounds because it really heats up.

Shorter course with a great layout. Lots of interesting holes that make you think about your tee shot instead of just taking driver on every hole. They've cleared out some trees and bushes recently, as well as improving some of the greens. Definitely recommend checking this course out for a fun round!

The pace of play was very slow. 5 hrs. Just brutally slow. Waiting on every hole. Clowns in front of us waiting for the group in front of them to reach the green before teeing off and then hit the ball 100 hundred yards. No Marshall to move them along. Will try and stay away from here. I recommend this course if you have a lot of time and a lot of patience. Good luck.

Was not aware that the greens were aerated. The course did not notify Golf Now of this situation. Impossible to putt without a hole changing the direction of the golf ball. Very frustrating. Otherwise course is in good shape .

Decent course, a couple holes with water and only two par 5’s with some long par 4’s. Played on a beautiful day but the pace was slow and we got backed up a couple times sadly. Very good value for the price though and would play here again. The greens had divets and leaves/pollen so it was tough to judge it. However, good views with the water right there and would definetly play here againb

I’ve been playing Sprain for a couple of years, and it’s a fun course. Staff are great! The fairways are still beaten up from the winter, but it’s early in the season. Ditto for the greens, which need aerating and rolling. Some are still very slick and bumpy. My only complaint about the course is the tee boxes on the par four 18th hole, the number one handicap hole. The tees are way too long., especially for folks not playing from the tips. The hole should either be a par 5 or the tee boxes moved up. This contrasts with the tee boxes on the other 17, which are fair.

While short, Sprain Lake is plenty challenging.

More often than not, the round will be closer to 6 hours, 5 being the minimum.

Sprain just opened a week ago and it’s in very good shape. Interesting and challenging course. We always have s great time here. Very nice staff.

A decent layout need to hit it both ways not long and great for walking

The course was in great shape as always. The pace of play was terrible. Two foursomes of walkers in front of us. Asked to play the front 9 again and were allowed too. Finished close to an hour quicker than if we had played the back 9.
