Good old course.
Sprain is a great little course. Plays short. Few tricks up her sleeve. If your a big hitter, you Really don't need the driver until 10th and then again 18th. Possibly the 12th.
Hit it to the 150 market and take a short iron into green is the only way to beat the course... Otherwise, you pay with your first born if you get overly aggressive.
I Really enjoy playing the course. Play it once a week. Reccomend it if you are close by.
Views, spectacular conditions, great food, etc...
I can't believe this is a public course.
Loved the day.
Worth it
Sprain Lake is a nice, well maintained course that's fun to play.
I'm not a great golfer so I found it a bit challenging, though nothing ridiculous. Some holes, like 3 and 4, are really interesting to play. The course hugs a small lake.
Some holes seemed a bit crowded together and with a lot of people out there it did feel like shots were coming in our direction on some holes.
Overall, it was worth the price we paid. We will definitely go back.
Great Course!
Great course and friendly staff! Making better improvements so next season will be even better!!!
dirtdogs15,
Thanks so much for the great review! We love hearing that our golfers enjoy their time with us and we hope to see you again soon!
Great layout, bad greens and sprinklers
I LOVE the layout and design of this course. Lots of interesting holes that make you think about where you want to place your tee shot.
That being said, the greens were pretty badly beaten up on many holes. Additionally, and this seems to be true of all Westchester courses, the sprinklers will go off at any time during your round. I actually had one go off during my backswing, which luckily didn't have an impact on my shot, but it did manage to soak our scorecard, phones, and seats in the golf cart.
Definitely worth checking out, but would love to see the greens and sprinkler situation improved.
mscheiblin,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are happy that you really enjoy the layout and design of the course! We are apologize about the conditions and the sprinkler going off. We are constantly working to improve the golf course. We hope to see you in the fall.
I love this place but...
The greens were horrible. Very slow and three of them in really bad shape. Course layout is great if you play from the blues, way too short from the whites.
Anderson6174039,

Average course
Of the Westchester County golf courses (I've played 4 of them) this is more scenic than others with the lake. The greens were in bad shape but have been better in the past.
With the Parks Pass or a Hot Deal it's OK to keep my interest to play at least once a year.
Andy2365377,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are delighted you came out to the course, we apologize about the conditions. We are constantly working to improve the golf course. We hope to see you soon.
Shot makers course, thinking required.
Local knowledge needed to score on this track. It is a fun quirky track with narrow fairways. Big hitters will have trouble navigating the tight fairways. Today was a steamy hot and humid day so conditions were super soft from fairways to greens. Pace was quick because there were little to next to nobody playing due to the weather forecast. The staff is super friendly so this to me is a very homey course. If you play here during the weekend, be prepared for brutally slow pace.
LuckyShank,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are happy to hear that our staff treated you well. We hope to see you soon.
Slow slow slow
First time playing sprain lake. I usually play maple Moore, mohansic, centennial. Sprain lake is a bit disorganized. First the tee time was backed up 45 mins late...I mean there were so many people waiting on the tee, it looked like a tournament going on or something.... Then the pace of play was unbearable.... People need to play during the week if you can't hit past the women's tees by your third shot. Total was 4.5 hour round( 5.25 counting the tee time wait) AND WE SKIPPED TWO HOLES because these people were just taking their time. No rangers on the course telling people to pick up the pace. Rangers are always telling people to pick up the pace on the other course I go to. Didnt get cart deposit back because I didn't drop the cart off at the first tee which is 200 yards downhill from the clubhouse and another 100 yards to the parking lot. Picked up my cart at the clubhouse and dropped it off there just like everywhere else I play.
The course does have some fun and nice holes and not in bad condition. Doesn't seem like anyone fixes their ball marks on the greens, they were like war zones. The pace was unbearable every shot felt like my first tee shot I waited so long.

Great Course!
We decide to play some new courses in NYC metro area and Sprain was a delight to find. I passed the course so many times for years and finally played it and will coming back often! Challenging and fair with variety of elevation and water hazards!
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are pleased that you have stumbled upon us and we pleasantly surprised you! Looking forward to seeing you again next time!
4 stars for Sprain
Course is in excellent shape. The greens could be a little faster. Pace was great, 2 some finished the front in 1h 45m. There was a 4 some that was a little slow and NEVER fixed their ball marks on the green. It was annoying to play behind them and repair constantly. The 11th hole is having some construction done so the tees are down, this really plays as a par 3 (long).
Thank you for your review! We are glad you enjoyed your round on our course and we appreciate your feedback. Hope to see you on the course again soon, Raheem!
tough greens!
The course is in great condition. No bad patches. greens are fast and smooth. There are no flat greens or easy putts. Our round was slow, but enjoyable.
Thanks for your review! We're happy to hear you had an enjoyable day. Hope to see you soon!
Sprain lake - A worthwhile visit
I played here for the first time and did not have high expectations. We played at 10 am to avoid the slow play and the staff were very friendly and helpful in pro shop and on first tee. The course have several short par 4's but also has four very hard par 4 holes that are excellent. They are rebuilding the 11th hold and it will be excellent when finished. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and think this is a better course than mohansic. Tees were in excellent conditions and the greens were in fine shape. All and all a fun day. Play is always going to be slow but we got around in 4.20 despite waits..
Thank you for your kind review! We are very proud to have exceeded your expectations and provided you with a fun day. Please come back again soon to enjoy another round with us.
Stuffing golfers in
3 of us played the front 9 in an hour and 40 min. When we got to 10 there was a foursome who told us the starter put them there b/c there "was anoitting or something on the front 9. They clearly never played before causing us to play 10-15 in over 2 hrs and skipping 16 b/c we couldn't stand to watch them anymore. There wasn't a ranger to be found all round.
Thanks for your feedback. We apologize for the slow pace of play and any inconvenience this may have caused you. We will address this issue internally as making our golfers happy is of utmost importance to us.
Awful pace
5 1/2 hours for our Twosome and still didn't finish. T-time was 1:55. Shouldn't allow walkers in the middle of the day.
Thanks for your feedback. We apologize for the slow pace of play and will address this issue internally. Otherwise, we hope this will not deter you from coming back and playing another round with us in the future.
Worst golf experience ever!
Well... Booked tee time for 12:22 on a Monday (not a holiday) sat there at the first tee box until 1:10 when we finally got to start our round. Course is kept it good conditions of you ignore the fact that the sprinkler system will turn on without warning while you're on the green and tee box! Happened about 5 time on the front 9. The pace of place was SO slow that after every hole there was a 5-10 min wait for the groups, yes I said groups!, in front of you to get out of range. The group behind us kept hitting onto the greens while we were still putting which is just rude and dangerous. At one point they asked to play through but we told them we're going slow because we have to keep waiting for the group in front of us. After a short shouting match they backed off. After the 9th hole we just have up. Wasn't worth the aggravation. Went to the club house and the guy behind the counter didn't really seem too surprised about our complaints and gave us a whopping $12 credit for the next round that we play there.... I paid $60 a person played 9 holes and got harassed and hosed with water the entire time... I would not recommend this place to anyone! I'll stick to the other county courses that are managed MUCH better!
Laurel view is down for whatever
Played on Friday afternoon & surprising pace of play was good because I picked the window of when I teed off. The reason this was allowed is because there was no one in charge at this club. The pro shop attended did not care what happened on this course - he seemed checked out. Not surprisingly he sent out a miserable 4 some in front of me as I was making the turn . I played through with little discussion. Range is a dirt pit. The only salvation at this course was the very personable snack bar host. Course is nice in spots but greens were plagued with ball marks , holes , and are very slow. Holes 3,4,5,7,8,9 all very hard
We are sorry that you did not enjoy your time on our course. We will address your feedback internally. In the meantime, we hope you decide to give us a second chance in the future.
Moderate challenge, decent layout, needs water
Went on Thursday May 13th, weather had been good for 4 days and that day was 75 and sunny (PERFECT WEATHER). Perfect enough that I took off early from work to get a round in.
I played the course once before but it had just been aerated and was more sand than course, incredibly disappointing. This time the greens were in good shape (staff told me it was aerated about a month ago) The fairways had just been aerated but that didnt both me so much, they were in decent shape. What mainly bothered me was how hard the turf was. Tee boxes and fairways seemed like they hadn't had water. Which is surprising considering before this span of good weather, we had a week of rain. The course could have used some sprinklers spreading water around throughout the day. I had several shots affected because I was basically hitting off concrete trying to get under the ball. Again, overall I enjoyed the round, that was really my ONLY complaint. The greens were consistent and decent shape, the weather was perfect, and I shot a 92 for my first round of the year (I am about a 20 handicap). There isnt too many bunkers on this course, thank goodness because the sand isn't consistent from one to the next. As with most public courses, you must test the sand, because you can either hit from lush sand or borderline concrete.
For a Thursday 3PM tee time, it was decently busy at the course. We didnt actually Tee Off until about 3:30, but once we got going, the pace was okay. Better yet, I saw a park ranger doing rounds at least 3 times on the day, which is better than most other public courses. Tells me they are at least monitoring the situation, if not doing anything.
Overall, the round was enjoyable. The layout is nice, its right on the water. And while it can get a little noisy near the Taconic highway, its not bad overall. The weather made the round great, and for mid-May, it was about as good as I can expect for a county course.
Thank you for your review and feedback! We appreciate you taking the time to review our course. This not only helps better us, but also helps future golfers know what to expect from our course. We hope to see you on the course again soon!
Great Course
Greens were punched about two weeks ago but the course was in great shape otherwise.
Thanks for the review, Sean! Hope the greens having been punched recently didn't cause you too much of an inconvenience. Come back and play again soon!
Not long, but greens a challenge
Sprain Lake is a nice layout, with short holes and some considerable elevation changes. The greens were very tricky, as pin placements were located on severe slopes on many holes, making it difficult to get close without rolling away off the green. It's early in the season, so perhaps once the greens grow in a bit, this will not be an issue. It was a beautiful day and we had no one behind or in front of us, though it is March, so this will change as the season goes on. I look forward to playing there again soon.
