Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Love this course but they failed on 6/29/2025
Played here multiple times in Feb/March/April 2025, left good reviews and really enjoyed time here. Played yesterday 6/29/2025 and wish I hadn't. Staff was wonderful. Course has great history and is plenty challenging. However, course was in really rough shape. Greens had pock marks from aeration making putting problematic. Tee-boxes were dead and covered with sand. Greens were patchy and rough at best. Yes, it is 110 degrees in Arizona. I can forgive the course conditions during transition but not at $70 with no Beverage Cart and no one working the Beverage Shack at the turn. Not cool!! For $70, my Sunday group can play lots of other places cheaper that have better course conditions, beverages and reasonable fees relative to conditions of the course. This said, the staff, check in people are awesome and course layout itself is historic.
The Marshall extremely rude. We were on track for a 3-1/2 hour round and the Marshall told us we needed to pick up our pace of play because there was no one ahead of us. The group that was supposed to tee off before us didn't show up so we had some extra space.
Not As Advertised “Newly Renovated “
Same course- “renovation” was in 2014.- green were recently punched and bouncy.
Same old course. Tough small greens. Was hoping things to be different from the advertising.
Could be better
This review is somewhat biased because it is summer after all. The fairways were mostly clumps of grass on dirt. The greens were recently punched (I think) and were quite bumpy. All in all to be charging $70 for this condition of a course is WAY too much. I think they would attract more golfers if the course was priced commensurate with the condition.
Anyhoo, steer clear of this course until they prepare it for the season.
Ok course with lots of trees.
If you like playing golf in general it was fun and the staff is almost too friendly. I heard the food was good but didn't have time to order at the turn from all the talking. watch out for crossfire on the back 9
Starter Staff Extremely Helpful
I was running late for my round and the starter had a VERY calm demeanor and knew my situation. He offered to drive me to the first hole and did it with a great attitude. His reaction to me being late could not have been better and calmed me down as I started my round. Thank You!
Fun Round - Slow play
San Marcos is one of my favorites! The staff is awesome and the value is there. The play was pretty slow yesterday and the greens were in need of aome attention, but overall would definitely recommend!!!
Greens punched and lost a lot of grass in fairways
Greens just punched and lost grass in mist fairways. Not worth the 40 dollars
It’s a Fun Course
Playing in the Summer is so different because of the course condition. But, that didn’t stop the enjoyment of the game.
Tee boxes a bit dry and hard. Rest of San Marcos good shape
It was ok. Could use some maintenance.
First I will say the staff is great. Next, the course lay out is not too bad. Gets a little boring with 2 bunkers on the front left and right side of every hole (it seems). Greens were excellent. Fairways / Tee boxes were decent. I did not care for the condition off the fairways.. Trees overgrown. Landscaping has some rough conditions....so, keep it on the FW. Lastly, the sand traps were very hard. Cost me some shots because the club bounced off the sand rather than scooping.
San Marcos
Always fun to play a traditional golf course. Tons of grass and mature trees.
