Troon visit ruined ,
Four Canadian boys in Scottsdale playing Troon for the first time.... we're probably having the highlight round of their seven day golf vacation..... perfect golf weather, fantastic scenery, splendid golf layout, nicely manicured course, challenging greens....... all ruined by a course marshall, who couldn't find the courtesy to first ask how we were enjoying our first round at Troon....... but instead stopped his cart, and told us we were 1 hole behind, and we need to try to catch up on the next par 5. The foursome following us, never once had to wait...... from the twelfth hole onwards, the four of us were "choked", and we are in agreement that we are in no rush to return. Troon..... a nice round spoiled !
Flagship
Once again the flagship of Troon golf. The course and staff are always one of the best in the valley of the sun.
Absolutely beautiful.
An awesome experience, played Monument.Just a couple minor issues, bags were delayed in getting to us after we dropped them off at the bag drop. All other aspects of customer service was excellent. Greens were a little sketchy due to ball marks, not sure if people jut don't know how to repair their ball marks or what but there were a ton out there, not something you'd expect with Troon North. Pace of play was awesome, teed off at 1030 and could have finished in three hours but had to slow it down in order soak it in. Never saw a group behind us and only had to wait once for just a couple minutes on a short reachable par 4 on the back side.
Save your money!
Truly disappointing experience. I was on a 5 day golf trip and save what I thought was the best to last based on price and other reviews. It was a big let down. Pro shop was alright but not overly welcoming. Playing it for the first time we did not have a clue where to go. They directed us in the general area. They did not tell us about the course or any details. (food, no GPS, etc.)
Driving range had very little grass in the area that was being used. They did not move their golf stands up. No GPS on carts. Starter directed us to the 1st tees at Monument from about 10 yards away. He did not get out of his cart. We had trouble figuring out what tees to go off. No guidance. Did not have much to guide for the proper way to play the hole. Left or right of rocks! Followed a slow 2 - twosomes all the way around. Heard from cart girl that it was a 4 that split up. Played at 11 am and there was still 2 mowers on the fairways. Had to wait on one hole. We did not know that there was no snack shop after 9 holes. Greens and fairways were nice but average compared to the other course we played on this trip.
I suggest you golf Gold Canyon Dinosaur for a way better experience.
Believe the Hype
I played the Monument course, supposedly the "easier" of the two. It was still very challenging. The desert was lurking just off the fairways waiting to swallow stray shots. Don't get too caught up in the golf to enjoy the views. It was pricey but it definitely is the best golf in Scottsdale.
Classic desert target golf
If you love desert golf, you're in luck: This is one of the best. You'll be hard pressed to find a better conditioned course and test of golf. Target golf at its best, the fairways are generous enough, but the approaches are where you'll earn your scores. Smooth, undulating greens add to the challenge. Practice facilities are among the best and the food and beverage is stellar, too. Try the Kobe beef sliders.
Good but not great. Glad I played it due to its reputation, but severely disappointed in their greens.
I had great expectations following all I read about Troon North but it fell short. It is a beautiful layout with great views. The staff is attentive and friendly. I had a 1p.m. tee time and knew I would likely finish around dark. They had a morning frost delay and my group teed off at 2 p.m. so we knew we were not going to finish 18. I had an on-line deal for $ 129 but I would have been livid had I paid the $180 regular fee. Played the Monument Course and the greens were terrible. Hundreds of ball marks that had turned into brown indentations. Putts routinely bounced off-line. I live in South Florida and even public courses that cost one quarter of that daily fee have better greens. My sense is that the course is so concerned with pace of play that players are hurrying their round and not bothering to fix ball marks and fill divots.
Maybe the greens are better at a different time of year? For what I experienced yesterday, they were way overpriced. Nonetheless, I am glad to have finally experienced this course but I would not rush back there unless I had a great deal.
Very well maintained course with great views
The day we played we were delayed starting by frost delay (unavoidable) and the fact we were playing behind some mini tour event made pace of play extremely slow
Management tries to make a big deal about pace of play and I feel we should have been warned
There are better values in Scottsdale for a half to a third the price
Great Course with tough greens
Of course Troon North - Monument course is in excellent shape, fairways are nice, the rough is not too bad and the bunkers are excellent with real sand which you do not see alot of in Arizona.
It is a little over priced for what you get but If you have never played it before, it is worth it.
Great time
From the time you arrive to the time you leave one of the best courses in town.
Great views, great staff and great golf
Troon north is a little pricey for me but what a treat this course was. 16th and 18th holes were probably my favorites while the course can be very long with cart path only. Definitely recommend but beware that some of the greens aren't perfect with lots of ball marks present.
Terrain magnifique
Je retournerais jouer tout de suite, terrain magnifique, note excellente en tout.
Beautiful course, but don't get the bang for your buck.
Played the Monument course. A beautiful course with great views and scenery. While we played we saw lots of animals including a bobcat that ran across the fairway.
The day we played it was cart path only which made us have a five hour round. Unlike some desert courses, I wouldn't consider it target golf. Most par 4s and 5s have big open fairways. You will have to use a three wood or long iron on a couple of the shorter par 4s but there aren't many.
Greens were fast, but not out of control. Only reason we played there is because I used my free foursome. I can't imagine paying $175 or more for this course. If I would compare it to a course I would say it's close to the Saguaro course at We Ko Pa.
Take a camera and extra balls
This was a great course will play it again soon awesome will get you if high handicap still a must play
All You'd Ever Want!
From start to finish, Troon North was all you'd ever want in a golf resort. The facilities and staff are first class. From the bag drop to the 19th hole we were treated like valued guests.
The golf course was in fabulous shape from tee to green. We found ourselves taking pictures from almost every hole, there was so much to see. The vistas and the property were some of the prettiest we've seen. Don't miss the opportunity to play Troon North, you won't be disappointed!
Great course spoiled by the large number of houses surrounding the holes
From the moment we arrived it was a seamless and pleasant experience.
Staff are well drilled in customer service and run a slick operation.
The course was challenging without being too hard.
It was fair even when taking the occasional trip off in to the desert! I even played my ball out twice when missing the fairway as I got a nice open lie.
The proximity of all the gorgeous homes lining the fairways does actually detract from the feeling of being in the desert as it is too built-up for my taste.
Bring your a game and you will score well as it rewards attacking play. I scored 40 stable ford points and played well under my handicap.
Not my favourite course in the area but definitely worth a return visit.
Cart Path only
It will be Cart Path only for at least another 5 weeks, which adds a lot of walking to the 18 holes resulting in a 5 1/2 hour round. Beautiful views on every hole.
Beautiful!
Pinnacle Course.
One of the most stunning golf courses I've played. The fairways are pretty narrow with homes very close. Great greens. Bunker sand not great. Very interesting course, visually and mentally. Will definitely play again.
Lives up to its reputation - and then some.
A wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. The staff was exceptional. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Our tee time was adjusted to allow for us to get in some practice on the range, even though we were late for our scheduled tee time. The course was amazing. The variety of tee placements makes this course playable by high handicapper as well as challenging for the low handicapper. The discount through golf Now made it possible for us to play a course that ordinarily would have been out of our price range. This course belongs on anyone's must-play list.
Did not exceed my expectations-
I'm a 2 handicapper and an "old school" golfer. This place is ridiculously expensive. I expected the course to be in great shape- it was. Golf attendants were super cool, the pro shop guys were not so much. Seems as if once they saw I reserved the tee time through golf now, I ft a shrug of the shoulders and a point to the direction of outside. I had called to make sure my time was open. They assured me it was. Got there and figured out I was behind a 35 person event! We decided to grab lunch and tee off later- they told me no problem. Came back, checked in again and drove to the range. Got to the range and was told the range closed 5 minutes ago. Ridiculous! Complained again and finally the pro saw what was happening and intervened. She was awesome. Blood pressure was through the roof at this point. They tossed down 20 balls and I said thank you. The course is awesome, seems very Disneylandy but fun. Turned nine holes and hit a parking lot. Every shot I had to wait. It was ridiculous - again. Called the pro shop and let them know, they had an attitude and said they can't gary ante anyone finishing even if you teed off at 2pm. They sent a ranger to speed up play. It helped a bit. Had to hear him complain about his 10 hour day. Boo for him! Finished, shot 76, had a headache a drove home. I paid $100 and had a hectic day. Got to the course at 11am for a noon tee time.didnt leave the course until 6:45. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DON'T HAVE GPS!!!!!!!!
