The Wigwam Arizona
About The Wigwam Arizona
Located in the West Valley near Phoenix-Scottsdale is one of Arizona's most historic golf resorts, Wigwam. Set on 440 acres, this village-style resort features three 18-hole golf courses, including two designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., most notably the famous Gold Course. The resort features 331 casitas and suites with large private patios and several resort pools, including a new 25-foot water slide tower. The resort-style golf courses are more parkland in nature than surrounding desert courses and feature palm trees and water hazards sprinkled throughout. There are four dining concepts, led by the signature Litchfield's Restaurant serving local farm-to-table cuisine, while there is Red's Bar & Grill for casual fare and the Wigwam Bar, which is the social epicenter of the resort. Recreation outside of the 54 holes of golf is nine lighted tennis course and two regulation bocce-ball courts, sand volleyball, bike rentals and yard games.Facts

Expected more
Wigwam is a premium-priced course. My hot deal was about 1/2 the usual fee. I left our bags with my wife at the drop area while I went to park. Parking lot was very full so it took some time to find a spot. In the meantime, my wife was standing with the bags, After a few minutes, She went to find some help. There were a few staff members loitering, and it was about 5 minutes before one of them finally asking my wife if he could help. He did cheerfully take our bags to a cart, but I don't understand why he waited so long to ask. The cart was electric, a nice bonus, and very clean. The small GPS screen on the drivers side started up immediately. While I was playing, I noticed that it was not possible to use the GPS to do any touch-screen commands to determine mid-fairway distances. I am accustomed to that feature on less expensive courses, so I certainly expected better quality here!
The tee-off was delayed 30-60 minutes because of an earlier shotgun start tournament. The resulting pace of play was slow. The round took about 5:15 to complete.
The Layout of the Red course is mediocre, with only a couple of challenging holes, notably the last few.
Overall, I thought the course was overpriced for the amount I paid, not even considering my fee was a 'bargain'. Won't rush back.
Good course for the money
The Wigwam courses are always well kept all year round, it's hard to beat playing these courses anytime. Pace of play can sometimes be a bit slow but to be expected at a resort style course. I never hesitate to book playing here every so often when we can. Thanks!
Underwhelming
Was excited to play the Gold Course. Never played any of the courses at Wigwam but heard the gold was best. Was able to get what I figured was a steal of a price for a Sunday late morning, $70, a couple days in advance so I booked it. After playing, $70 is the most I’d ever pay to play here again. Starting with the good; the course layout was good. Very strategically placed bunkers that force you to hit good shots if you want a birdie putt. However, several of the greens were in terrible shape. Basically big areas of construction not marked as ground under repair. Like sink holes on the green with no grass and just dirt. Like a dried out muni course. Thankfully pin placement was not next to them however, it is in the way if you’re trying to land your shot in that area to spin it back or roll it up. A few of the tee boxes were basically bunkers. Just beat to a pulp in un-repaired divots and just mass amounts of sand all over the place. Same goes for the range. Rough shape; especially for this time of the year. Pace of play was running behind but not terribly slow considering that no ranger/marshall/players assistant was out there at all on a Sunday afternoon! It’s not worth the normal price they’re charging. If you can get it at a steal, then it may be worth it but it’s my own fault for setting my expectations high for how spoken up this place was. Pretty bland…
Well taken care of!! Play the Gold, it won't disappoint, and just when you think you have this track figured out, it will eat you up!!
Relaxed vibe, trio of courses to choose from
Great practice facilities, get there early to enjoy.
Amazing course, moderately slow play though
Loved the course, immaculate greens and perfectly cut fairways. Pace of play slowed down from the second hole and the round took 4 3/4 hours. ( ( Not as bad as it could have been since I think the weather sent some groups in to the clubhouse later in the day.)
There were some no shows and threesomes - so I think it could have been worse. We took a discounted start time at 2:16 and just barely finished ( almost in the dark!)
We would definite do it again.
Best course for the money, in the valley.
Great layout, not punishing. Great conditions, bunkers could use more sand. Great value.
Beautiful
Took a client out here from Phoenix. Course was in beautiful shape, and the layout was perfect for golfers of all skill levels. Will definitely stay on the list. Plenty of amenities nearby as well. Awesome little area for a golf outing.
Meh
I had high expectations for this course. The pace was ridiculously slow, particularly on the back nine. It’s a fine course with open fairways, but I thought it would be nicer.
Challenging Gold course
Overall great challenge. Generous fairway THEN the greens show their teeth
lot of green grass
I really enjoyed playing the blue course at Wigwam. everything was great, fairways and greens were pristine, tees and bunkers were well maintained.
staff and the cart assistants were pleasant.
if you were off the fairway, you can hit off of green grass. most of the courses in that condition cost much more than the $130 I payed.
for that price, i'll play Wigwam every time I return to Arizona.
Gold Course
Long for woman but very playable. Robert Trent Jones and his fairway bunkers…not a fan! Overall we will definitely go back!
Packed
Not a bad course. Standard resort course you’d get anywhere.
Good Condition Course But Slow and Terrifying Layout
On the positive, the course was well maintained (nice fairways, greens, and tee boxes). However, the course layout was ridiculous. The greens and tee boxes were unbelievably close together and in some cases there were tee boxes behind a green. There were balls flying everywhere from different holes where they often landed within 10 yards of where you’re standing. In addition, the pace of play was rough with waiting on every hole and in some cases 3 groups backed up on a tee box because layout was so bad. Really need to fix this situation; I’ve played a lot of courses and this was crazy for the $$ paid and considered leaving after a few holes of play.
Enjoyed Wigwam Red
Great staff and drinks! Try the Raspberry refresher 😉. Loved the course layout and challenges. Watch the gps especially for the challenging but doable Hole 18.
We will be back!
