The hidden gem of the PGA west courses
This is an outstanding course. Great layout and maintained in perfect condition. The difference between this course and the other public PGA west courses is that this one is mainly played by locals who live within the community and they play fast. I finished my round in 3 hours. Unlike the Stadium and Nicklaus courses, the staff asked for permission to clean my clubs at the end and placed my clubs at the curb for me.
Challenging course in La Quinta!
Fun course with challenging water features. They put in new greens recently so they were playing super firm. Always nice to play a PGA tour course for such a good deal (I snagged a hot deal)!
Good conditions before they punch greens. Tough course play up!
Good conditions before they punch greens. Tough course play up! Used Hot Deal coupons for cheap twilight round, well worth it. Greens are getting burnt out but fairways, rough, collars everything else is lush. Get it before they punch greens end of July. Highly recommend white tees. Awesome views.
Beautiful day, fun course,
Played for my first time, my wife played and a single( guy from Australia, good golfer) the course was great, my wife, very casual golfer played great, .... the foursome in front 20-30 somethings , playing from black tees (probably 20+ hdcp) were all over the place, so we waited alot, otherwise great, but would have been nice if there was a marshall, surprised there wasn't.
Horrible pace of play and bad green condition
The group in front of us were just messing around, even a resident that drove up on us , told us to call the marshal. The marshal was there and didn’t say anything to them. This cause the round to go 51/2 hours which is ridiculous. The greens were punch and the staff didn’t let us know when we booked the tee times. When we got there, the starter told that 5 holes were cart path only. The fairways should have been better also. This is pretty bad when you’re paying $170 per round per person. The biggest part of golf is the greens and the greens were horrible. It would have been better if the expectations would have been set with us when we made reservation for tee times. Overall experience is horrible.
Hot Summer Deals & Course Condition Trade Offs
Overall a very fun course. The people and the amenities are great. From chipping to putting and range…all top notch. The fairways were a bit over played and some rough areas. With 100+ temps, bunkers were more cement than sand. Greens had been punched recently adding to degree of difficulty for smooth roll.
The course condition is so good
The course condition is so good, but staffs in cart storage are not kind.
You better be ready
Nice course, started with my drive in the lip of the bunker, got out, double bogeyed and played rest of my round 6 over. Tough course if you can’t hit fairways and hit 8 and 9 irons very high and land them soft. The greens are very true and fast. Got out of the deepest bunker in the world in one and bogeyed the hole, parred the signature par 3. Great views and beautiful course…
Play where the pros play
Great layout - challenging course, good conditions for the middle of summer.
African while golfing
Everything was good until I made the turn, the amateur I was playing with not to mention she was beating the breaks off of me at -2 to +5, had her mother putting tees where the pin placement is going to be for the tourney. A marshal rolled up and asked are you all good do you need some water, we replied no and he rolled off, we both got a par and headed to the carts, back rolled the marshal saying hey you you are not supposed to be playing, I said they moved me up 9 minutes to join the 12:00 group, he replied you are not supposed to be playing, I said I paid to play 18 holes and I’m playing 18 holes, I turned and headed to put my putter on my separate cart, so he turned to my partners mother and said the same thing, she told him she was just marking the pin placements, he asked did her did you pay to play, she said no, he said your not supposed to be on the golf courses, she said I always do this, then he told her she needed to stay on the cart, so I proceeded back and asked him where did he get I’m not support be playing from and I have a bag and a cart, he then said I don’t know, it shows yall group a 3some and you’re not support be playing, I said you’re not making any sense, I then said I know what this is about about three times and proceeded to the next tee. I think he associated me being an eastern Indian and assumed I was the amateur’s father, because we were the same color. Which isn’t cool at all! 4 hole later he comes back around asking do you all need water are you sure???
Slow pace of play
Played on Father’s Day. We were waiting for the group in front of us on 2 and 3. A family of 4. Three guys played from the tips and hit 7+ shots a hole. We called the pro shop on 4 as we were holding up the group behind us on every hole. The Marshall came out and was so rude. We politely asked if he had spoken to the group in front of us and he rudely put his hand up, motioning for us to stop talking, and told us the pace of play is 4.5 hours and they were on that pace. We politely walked away, knowing that this one group, and our rude Marshall, would make this round crawl for the next few hours. We proceeded to pull up to this group, who were still on the tee box on every hole, which backed everyone up all day. The group could have simply said “hey we are playing a bit slow and have a casual round if you want to play through.” The Marshall could have also suggested it. Instead it just killed the pace. Stadium can be a fun course but no course is fun when it’s managed like this. The icing was the 17th Alcatraz hole. When we finished the par 5 16th, the family was slowly pulling up to hit their 3rd shots (drops after not clearing the water from the tips). They took 20 minutes to clear the hole. Brutal. They then didn’t even put the flag back in. But hey, the Marshall did bring us cold towels.
Keeps You Guessing
Pace of play was slow for the season and it was hot, but the course is very fun and adventurous.
