View from 11th. Tee The Crossings @ Carlsbad Photo submitted by boldsirbrian on 11/27/2012
Beautiful
Difficult but very fun course! Clean well kept facilty with great track and staff very friendly and helpful
Interesting and challenging course
The Crossings is a very nice golf course that offers great vistas and challenging tee shots, which makes for an enjoyable overall round. Holes play steep downhill and uphill, with wind a factor virtually every shot on the day we played. Playing with someone who knows the course is very helpful, which we had.
The greens were less than desirable, as they had been sanded recently, and were quite bumpy. The really detracted from the experience. Also, the course is right under a local airport that has planes right overhead constantly.
Overall, this is a good course, but I would not pay the rack rate!
Crossings
Great course. In amazing condition. Played just after noon and the wind really added to the difficulty. I will be playing here much more often.
Amazing course!
Great layout in the hills of Carlsbad. Great views of the ocean. Not very long but club selection is a must. There are some holes you can score and others you will be happy with a par.
The club house is beautiful
The back nine is more difficult than the front. Both are fun and challenging. We played on a Monday and there were no crowds. Perfect!!
Love this place...
This was my first time playing at the Crossings. I'd play here more often but it's a little higher up on the price range. The amenities and the scenery are well worth it though. This course will test every shot in you've got and use every club in your bag. I will say though, that some of the greens on the back 9 are a little ridiculous. But any day I'm golfing and not at the office…fine by me. Staff was incredibly friendly. I'll be back for sure.
Always a Pleasure
I love this course. Being a retired school teacher, it is usually far too expensive for my golfing budget. Every time I can get a deal, however, I immediately book at The Crossings. It's challenging enough not to be boring, yet not impossible. The venue is beautiful. If I could "belong" to one course for lower green's fees, this would be that course, and I've played about 35 San Diego area courses.
Nice course, slow play
Liked the course but we were paired with 2 people who were extremely slow. Marshall's kept trying to speed them up but it didn't work. They had no golf eticate for pace of play. Course staff was extremely friendly. I would play there again (except I'd make sure I had a foursome)
Visually Enticing Golf Course
The Crossings-Carlsbad is a treat to play. Excellent views allow you to see the hole in front of you. Lots of elevation changes make proper club selection paramount for good scoring. I think the greens fees are very reasonable considering the high quality of this course. Nice short game chipping/putting area is close by to warm up. I would definitely play this course again when I'm in Carlsbad.
Last round for me
Slow, bumpy, diseased, crowned greens. Think patchy rough. I just can't wrap my head around how a view that you can see for free from all the surrounding areas makes this a 100/round course. I would only come back if I was guaranteed by the course that they have fixed their green issues. By far the best place to go and practices chipping though.
good
The second 9 hols are difficult and really in the mountain
Great Course
This is the 4th time I've played here. Great time, great weather, but the ocean breeze is strong in the afternoon. The speed of play is fast and I like that. The only real complaint, which is minor, is that the drink cart takes off too early and even when she is cruising around, you rarely see her. The marshal was great and managing the course well every time I've been there. There are a few blind holes where it is easy to hit up on the group in front of you.
Nice course
This course is definitely worth playing! Great views. Canyons to carry, undulating greens! Probably not good for a beginner!
Would love to play it again
Great layout very friendly staff. The course is challenging. Only one gimmicky hole the first par 5 on the back. If you haven't play it before you could be disappointed with a good tee shot. The green had huge undulations. Other than that the course was in great shape. We'll maintained bunkers and great greens
Good experience
First time playing this course , had a good time. Great layout, could be in a little better shape but for a public course was really good.
Enjoy
Very good course. A lot of challenging holes but the scenery is beautiful and the course is in good shape ( tee to green). Loved hitting from different elevations, blind tee shots and over canyons. Would definitely recommend playing this course
Unusual in a Good way
Very interesting course built into valleys/canyons, so many elevation challenges. Played with two other first timers, so it was very tricky gauging distances with the terrain and wind even though there is a nice gps system on the cart. Very tricky, rolling greens make this course a true challenge.
A very enjoyable golf experience. I will be back when in San Diego.
Very Challenging and Scenic
Excellent condition and beautiful surroundings but be ready to climb hills. Some of the holes are very challenging for the senior player due to the up and down of the hills from the Tee to the hole. Worth the money and the views.
Don't Spit Into the Wind
WINDY. And we were told that it is always pretty windy. Paired up with a single who had played there often. Slow pace and felt pressured by folks behind us although it was beyond our control with up to four different groups on a single hole, being held up by the folks three in front of us. LONG par 5's provided plenty of challenge.
Bring extra balls
Challenging but this course is so beautiful it is hard to NOT have a great time. Bunkers are well placed but sand is soft and pretty easy to get out of. Greens are fast. Overall a great course.
