View from 11th. Tee The Crossings @ Carlsbad Photo submitted by boldsirbrian on 11/27/2012
Not worth the money
Too many holes were squeezed into this course. On one par 4 I teed off with a 6 iron and another par 3 was less than 100 yards.
second time around
I played this course a couple of years ago and came away with mixed feelings. Overall it's a wonderful facility but the course is a little tricked up especially the way #12 was designed. Conditions were very good especially considering the drought we are experiencing. I think the greens were a little slower than last time but that's probably intentional to ensure that they stay healthy. I guess my opinion hasn't really changed but if you're up for something a little different give it a try. It's one of the more interesting courses around.
Great Course!
Crossings is one of my new favorite courses in San Diego. I'd say it ranks up their with Torrey Pines and Maderas. Challenging holes and most of all challenging 'HUGE' greens. One green was almost 50 yards in length. I've never played a course with as many two tier greens as they have. #15 green was a little too much though. The double/triple tier seemed as if we were playing mini golf. Course was in great shape and the greens rolled true. I wouldn't recommend this course for beginners though unless they have a couple dozen balls to lose. Drives over a canyon seemed to be a regular occurrence. I liked this however. Course also has a lot of dog legs and a few blind shots. The GPS in the carts is a huge help and needed on this course if you've never played it. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was the course layout. Couple holes you have to drive the cart for awhile until you arrive at the next tee, so walking is impossible. Another reason is the buzzing power lines, but I realize there is nothing they can do for this. Course was in excellent shape. Love the hilly terrain and challenging holes. I would recommend this course all day, everyday. Well worth the price also.
A definite play
This was a very scenic course, especially the back nine. Lots of vistas and elevated tees; quite impressive and challenging, especially for a first time visitor. The foursome immediately ahead were terrible, knew nothing of golf etiquette and couldn't understand English. After holding us up and without a clue, we jumped ahead of them thus losing a hole on the round, but a good move on our part. Anyway, this course is definitely worth the visit. Bring your game along as it's a challenging track.
Fun, Challenging, Scenic...
This course is a fun course to play if you like a challenge. I have to admit the layout is a little nutty, but that comes from designing it around a wildlife preserve. There really is no way you could walk this course. With that said, The Crossings has a lot to offer. There are plenty of holes to score on and plenty of holes that you should play it safe. Be sure to bring all of your clubs because you will need them. Play this course in the evening and you will be treated to some awesome sunset ocean views.
The Crossings
The course was an enjoyable experience. The greens and fairways were in very nice condition. The pace of play was slowed up by one foursome, playing for money. They were about three holes behind the foursome ahead of them by the end of 18. The ranger did say at hole number 4 that he would speed up their play. That did not happen. Other than that 5 hour plus round, the course is a great experience.
Great Course
I really enjoyed this course. It's definitely a challenge from the black tees and really has some large slopes on the greens. Fast greens as well. Great condition.
Wonderful Course/Great Staff & Facilities
Was going to be in the San Diego area early Friday so thought I would try to play a round of golf. Not familiar with the area so without knowing anything about this course booked a tee time on Golfnow. Drove up and was very impressed with the facilities. Staff and later to find out most of them are volunteers, where very friendly and helpful after finding out it was my first time at the course. I arrived over an hour before my tee time but they managed to get me out earlier so I did not have to wait all that time. Got paired up with 3 locals and they where more than happy to share their knowledge of the course which is essential if you are playing this course for the first time. Conditions were very good. Other than some patchy areas in the rough the fairways, bunkers and greens were great. There are many blind shots and local knowledge of the course is very important at playing this course so playing with people that know the course or asking the volunteers that work throughout the courses, like I mentioned earlier is essential. I will definitely make the trip down from LA to play this course again.
Where's the Grass?
Did they let some goats out onto the fairways or what? Especially on the back nine the fairways were poor. Greens were good. Some very picturesque holes with lots of elevation changes. Played the front nine in 2hrs and 35min. It took almost 45 minutes to play 10 and 11. #12 was so backed up decided to call it a day.
Overbooked
The course was dry and patchy. Pace of play was was horrific, never getting to hit consecutive shots on the same hole without a 5 min wait. Has the potential to be a very nice course, good layout, friendly employees, but not a repeat for me.
Good Time
Had a great time playing with a few friends out there, no waiting and the course was in great shape!
Challenging but fair.
Great layout. Challenging greens. Overall a solid track.
Always delivers!
This is an incredible public course! The difficulty, variance in types of holes are all amazing! What a gem!
Vacation favorite
We absolutely love this course even though it is very challenging. It has interesting forced carries, water hazards and elevation changes. So different from the flat courses we play at home.We play a lot of golf in California and this is one of our favorites. It is too pricey in my opinion comparatively, maybe because it is closer to the water?? However it isn't on the water, so I feel it is overpriced. Will continue to play it when we are out because it is so different and we love the challenge.
Fun course
Very interesting course. Not in the best shape, but it's March...
Carlsbad
Excellent course. Very friendly staff. Challenging yet fair
Beautiful Day
We had a great, challenging round on this course that takes advantage of the terrain and vistas. The only disappointment was that the resturant was closed to accomodate two weddings being conducted on the day we played.
Tough greens
Not too bad off the tee but the greens were tough to read..although it was my first time there.
Point Golf a Must
Course was in good shape... very crowded and played slow. No way to walk this course... way too many holes with distance behind them. Course was hard due to the sheer drop offs on some of the greens, you had to place the ball or you loose the ball.
Almost perfect!
This course compliments my game. Nice lay-out, fairways, and greens. Even the green bunkers are nicely sanded. The cart GPS was very helpful in planning your shots. The pace of play was great. Our only issue was that the cart batteries was almost dead by the 16th hole. What happened was they ran out of fresh carts when we checked-it at 12:30pm.
