A Pure Palmer Design (See Pictures)
The Legends at Orange Lake glorifies Mr. Palmer's stamp of a Palmer designed golf course. Legends Grill was closed but they are doing renovations according to the sign out front. The greens looked worse than they played, but I'm local and know this is the time the superintendent rolls the sleeve up. Don't get me wrong, they had some sneaky speed to them. This is a scenic golf course that has many challenges for all levels of skill. I am excited to see what the course looks like after overseed. I would definitely recommend this course to golfers of all levels. Dustin and Chris were, as always, very friendly and accommodating
My game needs work
Descent course for the value. Several greens were topdressed. There was no mention at the proshop in advance. A little ticked off about that but I didn’t complain in the proshop. I am rusty after rescently completed chemotherapy. I will be back here next week. Maybe the forecasted rain will soak in the sand. They have several different tee selections five in all for all different levels. I think I am going to move up a deck from the blues for better enjoyment.
Nicely laid out course.
Course conditions were fair. The rating would have been higher but the greens were a bit of a mess, especially the front nine. The bar was closed for refurbishment, since September 2018!
Great course, nothing easy about it
Loved the challenge of the course, will play again!
Love Legends Orange Lake
Our other favorite course - always playing here when we get the chance. LOVE IT!!
Great challenging course
A course that would test anyone a good number of holes are guarded not only by bunkers and water hazards. The quotes on the tees by Arnold Palmer and others are good advice, if you finish with your original ball you have either been very lucky or had a great round. We will return!
No Longer A Favorite
This course was one of our favorites until this year.
It started when we pulled up to the bag drop and there was no one around. Then just as I placed the second bag on the rack the starter/valet/bagboy pulled up in a cart. Then we went into the pro shop to check in and there was no one behind the desk. A guy carrying a bunch of empty boxes walks in from another door and says he didn't hear us come in (seems like bell on the door would be a nice touch). These two staffers never mentioned any issues with the course itself, which i will get to later.
While cutbacks at some positions are acceptable they're not acceptable on this course. Although the fairways were in reasonable seasonal shape it was apparent the greens have been left to the weeds. Putting was an adventure as you watched your ball being misdirected by patches of what looked like crabgrass that had been cut with the other putting grasses.
Another frustration came as we approached two greens (which included #18) to discover they had been replaced by temporary greens - something we should have learned from the pro shop attendant or the starter.
In addition to on-course issues, the normally robust restaurant was closed (we learned had been closed for over a year) and may never open again.
Our only takeaway is that management no longer deems the OL courses imporant enough to the resort, and as an owner it's an embarassment to bring guests.
So now it's no longer on our list of must plays in the area.
Good course
I would play again. Nice greens. One hole being worked on so cost us $25 plus tax. Well worth that for 17.
Good course, good condition
The Reserve at Orange Lake is a fun golf course to play at. Course conditions were pretty good and I would come back to play. Tee boxes and the fairways were in great condition. The greens were in good condition, but slightly bumpy. We saw the cart girl several times and the staff that we interacted with was pleasant and helpful. There is a good amount of water throughout the course so make sure you look at your phone's GPS of the course layout. Fun course that wasn't terrible difficult. There was a bathroom on each 9 but I didn't see too many water fill up stations.
Only credit/debit cards accepted so be prepared if you are a cash only person.
Reserve
Challenging course. Can play wet at times. Near Disney.
What Golf Now didn’t tell me
Arrived at course to find that today is first day of rolling repairs to the course. Each working day for next 18 days one hole will be closed to play with, where possible a temporary pin position on the fairway.
Guys in the pro shop advised I could have the round for $20.00 instead of the $27.00 golf now we’re showing. I used credits from Golf Now to cover the convenience fee I would not have incurred booking directly.
Have tried to locate a contact point I could raise this with Golf Now but have only found lists of answers to questions I don’t have.
This course despite pending work is in the best condition of the four I have played this vacation. Thank you Legends Staff.
Good course
Always liked orange lake for its layout and design. Greens had been hollowed tined but that didn’t detract from an enjoyable round.
Always enjoy playing a round at the Reserve as it is a fun layout. The course was in pretty good shape. Greens rolled a little slow, but other than that it was good. Course was a little wet due to all of the rain in the area over the past week.
Have no problem going back to play again as the pace of play was pretty quick as well.
Green Green Green, but the Greens
Green Tee boxes, Green fairways and Green greens. But some of the greens can use some work.
Just Too Slow
The course was fine with the exception of very slow greens. The guy in the Pro Shop was far from friendly. The Cart person was friendly and efficient which was good because on a Saturday morning nothing else was open.
The major problem was that it took over 5 hours to play. No joke. At the turn I asked if their was anyone who could go out and try and speed things up. Guy in the Pro Shop said no. It's Saturday morning and no Starter, no Ranger, just the Cart person and a guy in the Pro Shop. The course was by no means packed either. No excuse for this.
The course was really good condition and the staff working were really friendly.
