Ponte Vedra Inn & Club
About Ponte Vedra Inn & Club
Somewhat overshadowed by Sawgrass, this classic inn and resort predates it by several decades. Two charming golf courses have benefited from the design expertise of local resident and experienced architect Bobby Weed, and the new Lodge recently increased the resort's accommodations complement by several dozen rooms. Ponte Vedra Inn & Club should be near the top of the list for visitors seeking a sense of Old Florida.Facts

River Wilderness
Hidden gem of a course. Sits deep in the development, but in decent condition and very challenging to an intermediate golfer. Free range balls and a grass range are a big plus.
Good Greens
The Greens are good. The course is dried out so you get good roll but the fringes are not in good shape and the GPS system will make you back off the par 3's even thou they are in desert condition.
Member Issue
Local members jump in front of us after the starter had given us the playing order. The staff was fantastic at the course.
Wilderness great, golf okay
Birdwatchers delight, but golf conditions marginal. Great practice for tight lies in fairway. Greens look awful but putt okay. Our experience With staff was very good. Course layout was very good.
Total disconnect between pro shop & starter
We arrived & told we were paid in full and meet the starter out front. Upon meeting the starter we were told he had no record of us having a tee-time. He made us feel he was doing us a favour by putting us in behind a single who was obviously not a golfer. He proceeded to tell the groups behind us that GolfNow never tells them when they book tee times and he had to let us in. The 4some behind us bypassed us on hole # 1 and went ahead of the single in front of us. I’ve never experienced this kind of behaviour at a golf course with the starter. Luckily for us the single. Player in front of us only played 9 holes so the back 9 was more enjoyable.
Still has a long way to go
Decided to give another try due to recent reviews saying conditions were improving., as I used to play here often, but the course took a severe decline a couple years ago. Arrived just in time for tee time & they were accommodating & understanding due to several people being late after getting stuck in a big accident on I-75. Having no time to warm up, was taking a few practice puts on first green ( I was on in regulation) while rest of group was hitting approach shots.....ranger drove up & started berating me. Explained to him I was just taking a few putts while rest of group came on....Simply uncalled for & he was simply downright ignorant & rude!! Course review....Tee boxes generally were fine, fairways extremely thin ( why do you cut them so tight when you barely have any grass??) & a lot of bare spots, but if your group agreed to "roll the ball" ( we usually play them down) they were playable. Extremely hard to get under the ball with any lofted irons, and almost impossible to hit any Flop or Lob wedges around the greens. Bunkers very light on sand & what there was, was full of rocks & small stones....definitely not regulation bunker sand. Greens, simply atrocious. Every one covered with green sand( again pebbly), you really had to strain to find real grass, but surprisingly, they rolled OK, but they look AWFUL, and you were basically putting on sand, not grass. This course needs a heavy dose of fertilizer & seed, and allow the fairways to grow!!!! It's nothing close to what it used to be a few years ago...... this course was always plush & manicured with phenomenal greens. A lot of new cart paths, newer carts with GPS, so its obvious they're putting money back into it, but it has a LONG way to go to get it back to its glory days. Without a doubt, worse conditioned course I've played this season, but It is a GREAT layout!!! I'll give it a month & give it 1 more try!
Needs TLC
We gave it a chance after reading recent reviews about how they improved the course since last year. The course has a great layout but is in really bad shape. The staff was extremely friendly and the hot dog lunch special was to die for!
2x @ Wilderness
My second time playing this course and enjoyed it again, in spite somewhat slow play. Round took about 4 and a half hours, but we were slowed by a few groups playing in a tournament ahead of us.
Unfortunately, not the course conditions as in the past
The golf course conditions do not measure up to how this course was maintained several years ago. Nice layout, the greens were fast, but the fairways and tees were in poor shape. Range balls are furnished, but they had to go out and pick the range to provide range balls. Organization appears to be lacking.
Back at River Wilderness
This course has a nice layout. Greens were in fair condition, tee boxes are better then a few years back. Still a few are in rough shape. Need cart gal. The rate is high based on greens and tee boxes.
Good Golf Day
Greeted and served by a friendly, efficient staff. Tee time was on schedule. Loved the new golf carts. Course conditions and course layout was very good. Hope to get back before the “ snowbird season “ ends.
