Unacceptable greens
The greens were unacceptable for such a quality course. They shouldn't allow play under such conditions, especially for $100.
Greens
Course layout was nice, had a lot of character. Greens were horrible though. But the design and the people in my opinion out weighed the brutal greens. I am hoping they are just preparing them for aeration. I will play this course next year when I return.
Too Pricey for Course Conditions
I get it, it’s touristy golf. But if you’re paying $127 for a round, it would be nice to have some consistent greens. They weren’t in great shape, one would roll fast, other like you’re putting on carpet. Range was closed so the round the included practice balls was a bummer. Should be a $75 course at most.
Extremely Dissapointed
First, I played the Raven course in late June and it was outstanding. The greens were incredible and the course was well maintained. We went down on a family boys trip last week and couldn't get on the Raven with a group of 4 so we played Baytowne. The greens were very very slow and someone had tapdanced around d every hole. It almost looked intentional. It looked as though the cups had not been changed in a while. They were burred out something awful. They were so bad that I had a new LAB putter and I refused to putt with it after the first few holes. I was worried I would send my putter back with an unfair assessment. It was an embarrassing experience, because I had built the course up to my brother and 2 sons. I spent the round and evening apologizing. My municipal greens at home were better taken care of than this resort course, and the cost is considerably less. Overall an uneasy round of worry because of the way I built the experience up to my foursome. Very disappointed in the experience. The Raven experience was great. An everpresent beverage cart and overall great experience. We never saw a beverage cart the entire 18 holes. We did see a couple at the turn and the end of our round in the clubhouse area. There was no drinking water on the course and no coolers allowed. The heat index was 105 and we were parched. (Started at 11:50 and finished at 3:30) Pace of play was great, but 2 of us were single handicap golfers and the other 2 were 15 or less. I hit 14 of 18 greens and 11 fairways and had multiple 3 putts. Putting the greens was more than challenging. We kidded about automatic 2 putts outside of 10 feet. That shouldn't happen at a $100 plus round of golf. Needless to say I didn't apply this score to my GHIN. I hate writing poor reviews and contemplated not writing this one, but deemed it was necessary. My group wanted to go to the clubhouse to complain, be as though I payed for the rounds, but I was too upset and would have lost my witness. I know this resort takes pride in service and I pray this was an anomaly, and not the standard for the courses not named the Raven.
Poor green conditions
Balls bounced all the way to the hole. Substantial dry spots, tufts and covered with sand to mask the problems
Touristy
Paid $170 for an early afternoon tee time. I had not played here before, but I noticed a lot of other local courses ran deals in the afternoons due to heat. This course did not, so I was expecting it to be a step above the other courses in the area I had played, but it was not. Pace of play was brutally slow (we played in exactly 5 hours) and there was no one on the course monitoring pace of play that I noticed. The course itself was a fun track...not too difficult with a few tougher holes out there. Probably not one I will return to from a value perspective.
Poor greens
Arrived at the club house to be told the greens had been topped dressed and this was a good thing! Hit the first green and quickly figured out why. Spots filled in with sand all over the greens. The greens looked like they hadn’t been cut in weeks!
Completely unplayable and made for a terrible round..no way should anyone be charged that amount to play conditions like this course was in!
Disappointing
The course is beautiful in many respects. Tee boxes and fairways in great shape. Lots of beautiful water. But only 6074 yards from the blue tees? The greens were sanded over (they never warned us about that) and many of the traps were hard as a rock.
Many of the holes appeared to be cut by someone who didn't know what he was doing. Rough edges and blown out sides on most holes.
Worst of all, almost no drinking water on the course. Actually dangerous and maddening.
Links Golf Course
Course is amazing with beautiful views. Back 9, hole 15 right off of the water is a view to see. Staff is amazing and Tom, one of the pros there has the best customer service I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this course to anyone in the area.
Great course from start to finish
From the staff who receives your bag before check in to the starter who pairs you up with a group and sends you off to the first tee you are fully informed and prepared for your round the clubhouse attendant TATA was very pleasant and informative the practice range is very well maintained and the pace of play was great
Greens are horrible!!
fairways and tea boxes are in nice shape, but the greens are horrible. Getting overrun with crab grass weeds burned out mower shaved spots very slow.
No Thank You!!
I always thought Baytowne was overpriced, but it’s tourist rates, so it is what it is. In its current condition, I wouldn’t pay more than $60 to play there. The greens are unplayable in my opinion. Bunkers haven’t seen serious love since Spring (it’s late July now). Course drainage is poor so it’s soggy everywhere. Tee boxes aren’t even, have weeds and invasive grass all over them. I rolled some putts on a couple better managed tee box’s, while waiting, and it rolled a touch slower than the greens - but not much.
The course said it’s hard to manage with 100+ tee times a day on Baytowne alone. I say, that’s approximately $10k per day, $70,000 per week - put a little money into your course for god’s sake!!
GREAT COURSE!
Visiting Destin for the first time and with limited days for golfing I chose this course based just on the pictures of the course online. It was a little pricey, but in our opinion worth it. The course was in immaculate condition, staff was friendly and helpful. Cart girl checked on us several times. The only recommendation I would suggest to the course is more cold water available throughout the course to wet cold towels. The heat was pretty tough on the first nine but once we moved closer to the water the breeze was fantastic.
