Shanty Creek
About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

Enjoyable!
Played with my wife . We both enjoyed the layout and the shot shaping required (multiple doglegs). Every holes isolated from others which is nice. . Well kept, true greens. Played in 3 1/4 hours as ne group wanted us to play through. Will/ be back! WAY better than Summit course!
I played in a scramble, and it was all of our first time playing the course. The course was in great shape, and the greens rolled true. Everyone was very friendly too. I would play here again for sure! We actually won the scramble too, so that was a bonus.
Summit
Course was in good condition. Greens speed were great. Hole layout was tough but fun.
Nice Course!
Decided to play this course as we had already played a couple of the other Shanty Creek ones and it was okay. Some of the tee boxes were a little worn, some patchy areas on some fairways noted. Greens were fast/slow and pin placements made some putts difficult. We did have to wait on some holes because the group ahead were all over with their hits. Greeting guy for carts seemed as if he didn’t want to be there. We were not told there would be no beverage cart which if you didn’t bring your own you’d be without because there is no water on the course. There are portable toilets, didn’t use. 12th green bunkers were not groomed so full of eroding sand. Overall not as nice as the other courses.
Excellent course
Played this course again because we liked it and it’s in excellent shape! Pace of play was perfect! Plan on returning next year for repeats! This part of Michigan is beautiful in early June! People at all the courses have been helpful and fun including the staff!
WOW, challenging!
First time playing and it’s not for the timid player! Course is in excellent shape but definitely a challenge and requires spot on tee shots and approaches to the greens! Pace was initially very slow but at the turn we were able to jump in front the threesome. We did not realize they had stopped for bathroom and food items so we asked if they were okay with our jump. Portapotties were clean! Definitely more than moderately difficult course but we had a great day!
Wow, Michigan golf!
We are from Mesa, AZ the courses there are turning into summer hard pan and it’s getting hot so playing golf is not as fun. You have to play at the crack of dawn and so does everyone else so ? tee times. The weather is perfect, the course is beautiful and the fairways are plush velvet! The staff was very nice! They had a league play going on but didn’t seem to hold anything up. Beauty is you can play golf up to 9pm! Course does require well placed tee shots to avoid tromping in the woods! Hope to play again soon!
Beautiful course
This course is a good test of anyone’s skills. Hat’s off to the grounds crew.
Loved this course
Staff was excellent, course was awesome, Loved the rolling train, greens and tee boxes we're excellent, course was in nice shape even after couple days of rain.
This course never disappoints just the views alone is worth
Breathtaking views you will not regret playing this course
Great northern Michigan course
Great up north course with some elevation and expansive fairways. One of my favorite layouts, up there with Treetops and Boyne. Love the course.
What happened?
I had played the Legend a few times 14-15 years ago and it was a nice resort course, well kept (with some underlying drainage issues). Now the course is a mess. The bunkers are filled with gravel, the fairways were very inconsistent (some were mowed evenly, and some were not.) My wife commented that this was about the worst maintained golf course we've played in the last few years. The started raved about how good the conditions were. After the round I was asked how it was and when I told them our impressions they dismissed them because "they had some rain recently."
Hello, mrfitz98. Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing The Legend at Shanty Creek.
