Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

Not your average resort course
Resort courses are visually stunning but are not terribly difficult. Tom Fazio designed a 27 hole course that is both beautiful and a beast. We played the back tees on the Lake and Quarry 9s. Lots of plugged balls from the tee making the holes play very long. Greens we're aerated within 2 weeks but putted pretty true. Need to play this again when it's dried out for some revenge. Lots of fun and plenty of challenge.
Senior discount is wonderful!
Good conditions and nice layout are only enhanced by the over 50 senior discount. Electric carts are both quiet and speedy, much better than gas carts.
Beautiful scenery
The course is breath taking. Course is also well maintained the staff is friendly. Will definitely book another tee time soon.
Thank GC country club.
Keep up the good work
Great Gorge 10/17
Glad to see this course open again. I was greeted by a friendly staff and no delay with my check-in. Range balls are included with the greens fee. The greens were aerated recently, still causing some bounce but surprisingly rolled true 95% of the time. Tee boxes were in good shape. Traps were compact but workable.
Cart paths were bumpy through out and the fairway on hole 8 (Quarry) could use some TLC if you're not a long ball hitter.
Management is offering annual memberships for next year so be sure to ask if interested.
this course was in great condition.
this course was in great condition for only being reopened for a few years. staff was very friendly.
Glad to be back!
First time playing since the course closed almost 3 years ago. Course was in super shape as if it had never been closed. The old "Playboy Club" was always my go to in the area because it offered a great course and was usually $25-$65 cheaper than the other resort options around. Glad to see it's back and still offers one of the best combos for golf & value in the area. I'll definitely be back!
Course has reopened
My first time back since the course reopened. Nice condition. Greens were fast and in good condition. Rolled true.
Love This Course
If you have never played Great Gorge you definitely need to put it on your list. Such a beautiful, unique course unlike any other I have ever played. Course was in great condition, pace of play was excellent, staff very friendly and welcoming, and a great value. Perfect fall weather and an overall perfect day! Anytime I am in this area this is my go to course.
Scenic North Jersey
Just a beautiful, enjoyable course. Great deal for seniors(over 50). Glad to see they are back in business.
Lake/Rail
I just don't remember this course being that difficult.
Great George Fazio layout. Greens were quick but a little bumpy.
Rail/Lake
Very happy that Great Gorge is open again. It's a quality layout and is in good condition. There are still some areas that need attention (a few bare/bumpy spots on the greens and some tee boxes, for example), but overall I was happy with the condition of the course given it was closed for a couple years until this season.
Pace of play was great, nobody in front of us the whole round. I'm sure that will change when more people find out it's open again, but that's to be expected.
Greens were quite quick, which was nice. Fairways in great shape. They said they are aerating in mid-October so still another good 3-4 weeks of playing conditions at this course.
One area of disappointment was the check-in process. Apparently they also check in people for some tree climbing/adventure thing at the pro shop, which I found very strange. There were two or three families in the line and it took us 15 minutes of waiting to check in for our round. They had two computers at the desk but only one employee working. The manager did not even notice us in the line, or at worst ignored us. You'd think he could of at least checked us in real quick on the other computer while the other employee was checking in the customers for the tree adventure. Instead he was in the side office the entire time we were waiting and didn't do anything to help move the line along (for the tree adventure or for golfers). When my playing partner went down to ask the outside staff (who are very nice) why there was nobody checking in golfers, they radioed up to the pro shop and the manager said the other employee was and that he was "standing right next to her." That was a total lie and left a bad impression as he was in the side office the entire time. Service is important when trying to bring customers back. Good thing the golf course is in good shape or this would have been a major negative. Instead we were able to move on from it, but it does deserve to be pointed out.
Don't let the decrepit hotel and parking lot turn you off when you pull in. The course is worth playing and is a fun layout.
What a value
After change in management, they did a great job with greens and pace of play. Granted it was Sat afternoon twilight, thought value was great. Could use better job at bunkers but overall amazing what ground crews did in couple of months. Definitely will go back for full 27 hole replay.
Happy this course is on its way back
we played all 3 nines and the rail is now become my favorite. course was in really good shape and with a little more TLC it will become a premier destination in nj public golf. worst knock was the cart paths by others...they weren't that bad. good job who is ever driving this and hope to get there more often. well done!
Greens
Great course. Greens are way to fast though. Be up there again next week to try and solve them.
Great Gorge is Back!
GolfNow got 2 of us a great deal! The course has just reopened this year after being closed a few years and we're glad it's back. Really looking forward to another round or two this year.
Sweet Deal
Came here on a fluke because a local Large facility nearby didn't tell us they aerated
that same morning.
Over 50yrs old during the week pay $35. I said can't be that good. Well was I surprised.
Worth every penny and more. Not saying it's Augusta.
Greens were top notch. Course challenging. Some spectacular views. Don't let the
falling down old Playboy Club, driveway or parking lot scare you away.
Staff was terrific. 27 hole course. They close one 9 each week to improve it. The day we played it was Quarry/Rail.
Will be back.
Just wanted to point out that Brad, the GM of the course, reached out to me and was fantastic. Very professional and was able to determine what happened with the check-in process. As I told him, I don't want anyone to get in trouble for it but it was worth pointing out. He addressed it the way a good manager should.
He has big plans for the course, so I'd expect Great Gorge to be even better in the years to come!
