Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

Happy this course is on its way back
we played all 3 nines and the rail is now become my favorite. course was in really good shape and with a little more TLC it will become a premier destination in nj public golf. worst knock was the cart paths by others...they weren't that bad. good job who is ever driving this and hope to get there more often. well done!
Greens
Great course. Greens are way to fast though. Be up there again next week to try and solve them.
Great Gorge is Back!
GolfNow got 2 of us a great deal! The course has just reopened this year after being closed a few years and we're glad it's back. Really looking forward to another round or two this year.
Sweet Deal
Came here on a fluke because a local Large facility nearby didn't tell us they aerated
that same morning.
Over 50yrs old during the week pay $35. I said can't be that good. Well was I surprised.
Worth every penny and more. Not saying it's Augusta.
Greens were top notch. Course challenging. Some spectacular views. Don't let the
falling down old Playboy Club, driveway or parking lot scare you away.
Staff was terrific. 27 hole course. They close one 9 each week to improve it. The day we played it was Quarry/Rail.
Will be back.
Needs lots of work
Second time playing here this year after the reopening. Course is in decent shape considering it's been closed and basically neglected for over two years. Needs work in so many areas: abandoned hotel and dilapidated parking lot greets you and the staff always don't seem to know what they're doing although they try(?), tee grounds are in bad shape..fairways and bunkers are beaten up and don't drain. Cart paths are the worst and the three 9 holes are not clearly labeled creating some confusion.it would probably take many years of work and lots of $$ to get this place "up to par"
Glad it's open but still needs help.
2 days after rain, course very wet. Cart paths are atrocious. Greens are fast, but all domed with signs of age. If you can get a good price, go for it, it's fun.
Needs a Facelift and Irrigation?
This course sits in a valley. As a result, it's extraordinarily wet. The grass is very green but there were puddles everywhere. Some of my shots sunk completely into the turf. The fairways were very very soft making it very challenging to strike the ball well consistently. There is no way this course will stay open if they don't make some serious investments in drainage and irrigation.
Also, there was no signage to assist first time golfers where the next tee box is. The cart paths were in terrible condition and I needed to lean forward for most of the ride to prevent a back injury.
This course could be great if they have the money to invest in it. In its current condition it certainly falls short.
Wonderful Golf Experience
- Super friendly staff
- New electric golf carts with USB cell phone chargers
- Complimentary practice balls
- Real grass practice tees
- New clubhouse with beautiful elevated view of the valley
- Finely manicured chipping and putting area
- Course in good shape and beautiful views abound
- One of the nicest tracks in the state
- Course recently reopened and is in great shape with new bunkers and cart paths in progress.
Great layout BUT tee boxes were NOT level
The renovation has done the course well from fairway to green.
But the tee boxes were not level. Ball was consistently above the feet (for a right hand player). Played from the Green tees.
I wanted to have our golf group outing here but after informing the group of the tee boxes, we decided to pass.
Level out the tee boxes and I would give this course 5 Stars.
Even Better Than Before
First off, the staff is insanely nice. From the shuttle driver to the starter to the cashier. Everyone was so helpful and smiled all of the time. The course itself was immaculate. Perfectly cut fairways and greens with a very thick and challenging rough. I played the quarry and the rail courses. We had a threesome which played at a brisk pace but never had to wait after the first hole. Both nines took about 2:15 each. The only complaint I have is that the cart paths are horrible. The 90 degree rule was in use and it was punishing on those paths. Other than that everything was great. Good luck putting on the 9th on quarry. It's a blind approach with a two tiered green. If your not on the same tier as the hole, you are going to have one of the most challenging putts you've ever encountered.
First time Back
Staff was great and the pace of play was fast. Course conditions were not as good as they have been in the past. Course played like course that just re opend after more than a year of being closed. Still a great layout and I look forward to playing it again when the conditions get better. Right now there are courses in better shape for less money.
First time since it opened back up and it was in great shape! Needed some bunker work otherwise a good golf round!
First Time Back since the Mountain Creek Takeover.
It was my first time playing at Great Gorge since Mountain Creek took over. Considered it was closed for two years, the conditions were definitely not awful. They were decent. I played on Quarry and Lake. Most of the greens were in pretty good shape, except a few greens had a few spots without grass. Some of the bunkers have fresh new bright white fluffy sand. Some bunkers are more like dirt. Not terrible though. Come next year, this course should be in great shape. This doesn't mean that it's not in good shape this year. It's in great shape for a course that was closed and pretty much neglected for two years while the bank had it. They now have electric golf carts, which are way better than those orange carts that they had. The carts will definitely get beaten up from some of the awful cart paths, haha.
I'm glad that Great Gorge is back. It is one of my favorite layouts. None of the holes are the same. There is a lot of character to the course.
Good getting better
Great Gorge was the poor sister to the Chrystal Springs courses. When I last played there a few years ago all three nines Quarry, Lake and Rail were suffering from a severe case of neglect. Since then Mountain Greek has purchased Great Gorge and has been working to bring the course back to its former glory. They are well on their way. Fairway are in good shape, new white sand in many of the sand traps, greens were fast and true, however some bare areas exist. Each week one of the nines is closed to be worked on. I played Lake to Quarry, the two more difficult nines. the layouts have not changed. Maybe because I am older the course seemed to play longer than I remember. I was happy to see the large tree on the Lake's seventh hole was removed from the right side of the fairway. If you have a preference as to which nines you want to play call because each week one of them is closed.
Great Course
Great golf course with 3 sets of tees for the men.Three different 9 hole layouts featuring The Lake , Quarry and the Rail.I was fortunate enough to play all three nines on a great day . Pace was fine , no waiting . Playing from the back tees I hit almost every club in the bag. Nice variety of holes and challenging , one of my favorite places to play.Definitely a place to put on your list!
great course, great day
I have played Great Gorge several times this year. On this occasion went up as a single, got paired up with 3 others, starter did an excellent job getting us out. played in 4 hr 20 min. conditiond were excellent. Will be going back! Great job Great Gorge.
Decent Course
The course is pretty decent. Few rough patches here and there. The rough was in tournament conditions. Couple that with early morning dew and rain from the night before, it was tough getting out of the rough. The layout is pretty good. For $65 the value is ok. There are definitely better deals out there.
I would recommend this course to anybody
great day of golfing, staff were friendly, and polite ,I hit some balls on the range it was a bit small but well marked, I was paired with two other singles to make up a threesome, course was in pretty okay condition for this time of year, the greens were in great condition not too slow . All in all a great day
