Loved experience
First time at Grove Park. Excellent condition at every point Tees Fairways Greens. Some bunkers had limited sand but saw workers adding sand to bunkers. Typical Donald Ross course… the greens protect the integrity of the course
Beautiful scenery. Played course in about 3 1/2 hours
overrated
Historical architect, but unimaginative. Many holes look the same. Blind approaches where you can only see the top of the flag but not the green.
Definitely not worth the price, nor the hype
Nice classic layout
Awesome experience
Donald Ross did a great job here
Donald Ross: RIP
Obviously a beautiful setting. Course is extremely overrated. With all respect to D Ross, he was a lazy architect. Innumerable approach shots with only the top of the flag visible. No way to tell where to place shots; would have to have played several times before. Greens were variable, poana dying out. For me, greens were hard to read with vacilations plus hills.
No question the coarse is overpriced, even for the GolfNow deal I got. Will not be going back.
Ok
The tee-boxes were in fairly rough shape, I expected better for the price.
Also, 2 beers and 2 small packages of peanuts for $35 seems to be excessive (purchased off cart wagon at the turn).
But it was a fun historic place to be on a beautiful day and I'll bet the tees will be in great shape this summer.
Nice, picturesque course to play
I had a family member from California who had never been to our place before, want to play a very nice course. We arrived and found the greens were sandy and very bad to putt since parts of the greens had more sand in places which made the speed different on each green. I really like this course normally, but the price was too high for the condition of the greens. This is a picturesque course, but the price of $130 to play is too high for the local golfer. This course should have a local fee like Las Vegas, Orlando, Williamsburg and Palm Desert, California. The cart persons were very nice. We love to play this course and recommend visitors to enjoy a gorgeous course with lush fairways. Hole #4 needs to make it a 5 par for seniors like me who drives the ball 200 +/- yards and take 3 shots to reach the green from the senior tee box.
Air rated
They had air rated their greens but still charged full price. Worth a round at 80$ or less. Cool old school Donald R course.
Not worth the $ today
Course is Ross so good character. But not well conditioned and aerated greens. I got $50 worth of golf for $86.
Hard to justify the $$
Was told only when we showed up to play that the greens had been aerated the week prior, so their rate was cut in half to $84 per person. Not sure it is worth the price. Disappointed with the tee boxes, and the greens were challenging (as they would always be with any areified course). Hard to accept that this course is one of the "top resort courses in NC."
Fun Donald Ross Course.
The course was in great shape for this time of year. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It's definitely a must play if you are visiting the Asheville area.
This course was very scenic
My friend and I enjoyed the speed of the greens, but you had to make sure you left your approach shot below the hole or you are 3 putting. We found the players ahead of us were kind enough to allow us to play through. We loved this course and played an extra 9 holes. The staff were very nice. I will be back on March 24 with a family member from California who has never been here before. My son plans to bring several golfer friends on March 25 he has 2 slots.
