Challenging but rewarding
Played this course with a buddy for the first time today. Weather was great for beginning of January. It was cart path only and we were told we had to take carts which which a bummer considering we wanted to walk. With that being said the staff member inside was very kind and helpful. We got paired up with another single today. We all were high teen to mid twenty golfers. Course was in great shape. Surprisingly green for January. Course layout had a few forgettable holes but mostly a pretty good mix. Felt like the greens beat us up a little today. But that was probably more due to our skill level since they were in great shape. Just lots of undulations. We played match play and battled back and forth all day. Each hitting some shots to be desired and both making some great shots. 17 was an nice par 3 (made a Birdie there) in front of the hotel where we got an amazing Old Fashioned after the round. We will be back in the spring time to play again.
A Donald Ross Masterpice
My absolute FAVORITE Asheville area course. Beautiful and challenging! A MUST Play if in the area!
Grove Park
Course was great as usual. Staff in pro shop needs to work on friendliness.
In Shape for Winter
It was a frigid night, so we could not tee off until 11. However, the course was in great shape and the staff were excellent to work with. Just an excellent day to be out on this beautiful golf course with family and friends.
Fast Greens
The golf course was in great shape. The greens were very fast. Some of pin placements were
In tough places. One was placed on frount of a false front. One of the guys i played with putted, he missed the put. His ball rolled 40 yards down the hill.
2nd time around
Enjoyed immensely the Donald Ross layout. Very reachable par 5's and long par 3's with challenges keeping the ball in play and penalty areas lurking everywhere. I actually got a $66 hot deal as a single which is a great value for this course. The $155 retail is over priced imho. Was paired with another single and we had a great time together. Pace was pretty slow but not unexpected for a beautiful Sunday afternoon in late Nov.
Great experience
First of all, I’ve seen some reviews regarding staff friendliness being terrible and I couldn’t disagree more!! The guy at the shop was extremely friendly, and helpful!! I would also say that Cam who is the starter was awesome!! I got there about 45 min early and I had a T time at 10am. He explained everything about the course since I had never played there before including what to look out for due to elevation changes. I was playing by myself so they had me on a foursome at 10, but cam let me go out early and I was done playing in about 2:45 min. I’m from Miami and there is no such thing there. Needless to say I shot my best score ever with an 80 on this course. Great layout and the views were spectacular.
Beautiful day
My wife and I were going over to play Grove Park. We usually play it couple times a year. They put us with two guys and they were great. The greens were really good and they are the fastest we play almost every year. The over all conditions were terrific especially for mid November. I recommend the GPI for everyone. A little pricey but well worth it.
Had an amazing experience playing a well manicured course! To be November the course was still green and plush! The greens rolled true and had a good speed to them considering the cold conditions the night before. Staff was great including the maintenance crew paying attention and not interrupting golfers as they made their way around the course! Great layout, great course!
Excellent course - a must play for all golfers
The course layout is great & Mountain View’s are just as good. Well worth playing for golfers of all skill levels.
Beautiful
Both of us thought the course was worth the price.
Very scenic.
The golf had little defense except for the large greens with difficult reads. If they were faster I think I would of had a better chance.
This combination caused more three putts then I will admit!
A couple t boxes where had to locate. I would play again.
old Ross layout with green conditions
It's an old Ross layout that plays up and down the hillside. No driving range.
Great views from the top of the hill on several holes. You can see how ross designed this layout back when they didn't move dirt around and just went with the lay of the land. It's very short, under 6300 yds from the tips. The par 3's except 17 are the highlights.
The course was in great condition in mid October with stunning views of the tree leaves changing. Greens are a fun challenge. As advertised is tough to pick the right club with severe downhill or uphill lies. Watch for false fronts and turtle back greens--thank you Donald! The course gets a bit monotonous just going up and down the hillside. But again I took into account what they did back in 20's...it would have been fun to have had a caddie, maybe in non Covid era.
The downside was playing a slow group...four hours later I just went around them. It's worth 140 a round....I wouldn't return and only played it because it's a Ross design.
Classic Layout. Resort Course. Expensive.
Played an early morning round in just over three hours which was great. Was in the low 40's until the sun came up. Two great guys to meet and play with. Loved the layout. Conditions were good. Pro shop guy was very nice and helpful. Carts guys not so much; felt like they just worked there to get free golf. Did not clean clubs or say "how was your round"; no tip for them. Granted that this is fall prime time and the weekend, but was expensive at $150. Would definitely play again at a more reasonable rate.
Nice Course, average value
The golf course was in good shape & not overcrowded. No driving range and not much of a clubhouse. Average for the price paid
