Table Rock Resort
About Table Rock Resort
The Table Rock Resort is different from most of South Carolina's golf resorts in that it resides in a mountainous setting, not a marshy or oceanfront landscape. It sits in a northwest corner of the state at the base of Pinnacle Mountain, sprawling across 500 acres. Table Rock features a natural waterfall, an 18-hole course called The Rock and an onsite snack bar. Guests who stay in the resort's two-bedroom, two-bathroom condos are allowed free golf.Facts

PAR COURSE
I HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE MANY TIMES AS I WAS A MEMBER 25 YEARS AGO. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE OWNERS CANNOT GET THIS COURSE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. THIS COURSE HAS BEEN UP AND DOWN FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. NEW OWNERS TAKE OVER AND JUST DON'T SEEM TO DO A LOT TO IT. GRANTED IT WOULD TAKE A LOT OF MONEY TO REALLY BRING THIS COURSE UP TO THE LEVEL TO MAKE A VERY GOOD COURSE. IT IS A FAIR COURSE FOR THE MONEY. TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS IS THE TOPS THAT THEY SHOULD CHARGE FOR A ROUND ON THIS COURSE EVEN ON WEEKENDS.
Could be great, really is borderline
I have played here a number of times and finally am writing a review. We arrived and the head pro was rude about us not having printed out our GolfNow reservation. He easily could, and did, look it up, but made sure we knew he would not do this again for us. We had no cell phone service in that area or we would have looked it up ourselves. He is a prickly head pro, I was wondering if he wanted us to spend money at his clearly close to dying course.
The course itself is in a great setting, but the greens were in horrible shape. They had been punched recently and there was a half inch of some green fertilizer layered on top of the greens. Putting was next to impossible.
The fairways were spotty.
Beautiful view, but course needs serious work
The course was in rough shape. The greens had been sanded, but they were mostly sandbox. The first hole, we declared no more than a 2 putt.
The pro was unfriendly. He asked to see my confirmation code. My phone had no cell service in the mtns. I told him I couldnt bring it up. He acted like he was doing me a favor for letting me play on he course. He said, 'I'll let you play today, but next time you will need it or you pay full price." I wouldn't be hard pressed to pay $18 for the course. After I got on the course, I was able to get coverage and took a screenshot of the confirmation.
We were the first ones out and then when we made the turn they had let a tournament off the back side????? We caught them on 14 and play slowed to a crawl. We saw a 5-some???
The positives. It is beautiful setting and if they put some work and money in to then I would think about trying it again.
Good layout but needs work
I have played this course many times over the years. I like the layout, and the fairways seem to be better than the last time I played. The greens had a lot of crabgrass in them, but they still putted consistently. This is a shot making course, you have to put your ball in the right place on a lot of the holes, or you will not have a shot in to the green. A short, but challenging course.
Bear Valley is a little "Redneck"
Extremely uncared for greens, staff that is not friendly except for the cook who ended up serving us since we couldn't get service. The front 9 plays like a golf course that had been neglected, The back 9 plays like field chipping and field driving balls with the same quality of greens
sad greens
greens very poor condition, lots of weed grass, most of the rough was crab grass, multiple types in fairways.
Golf in the mountains
Course has a good layout. Greens need to be groomed. Spots of crab grass makes putting erratic. Some fairways need cutting and grooming. With a little work this would be a fun course. For the money, it was a good deal. Hope new owners improve the few little things that cast a shadow on this course.
Overall ok
Overall it was a ok course, have been to better but also been to worse. The greens were pretty rough shape, could use a little more maintenance. Fairways in ok shape also. Overall would give the course around 3 stars. Don't know if I would return unless it was little more maintained.
Hidden gem
The only thing I could say needs improvement would be to have sand in traps, but that's a ongoing trend at most courses this year.!!!
Beautiful Mountain Views
Really lovely course, mountain views, water running through. Not overly long, a shotmakers course- lots of curvy holes, lay up tee shots. Tee makers had good helpful distances to appropriate layup zones. Tee boxes in pretty good shape, fairways good, greens a little iffy- some patches, some ant areas. Smaller greens, but not a lot of break on most putts.
Bear Valley
This course has changed ownership, now named Bear Valley, and is in as fine a shape as I have ever seen. Good mountain/flat land golf (a mixture) in a very scenic and historical setting. Club house is open for lite meals and dinner on Wednesday, as is bar area. Snacks and cold drinks are available in the pro shop otherwise. Also restaurant is open Friday and Saturday.
slow slow slow
Slow is an understatement, I simply quit after number 8. Began the round at 2:25 I only made it to number 7 by 5:15! I asked for a rain check for nine holes but was told that none would be given. That was a shame.
Great views and conditions!
Today was our first time at "The Rock" and we will definitely be back. It was not too bad of a drive from the Greenville area but for about $30 it was worth it. The signature hole at #8 was great with many elevated tee boxes right next to a large waterfall. Most fairways were nice with only a couple that need to be cut a little shorter. Greens were very fair and rolled nicely once we got used to the wetness. Some rough was very challenging and it really emphasized the need to hit the fairways or be penalized. Overall, a very fair course with some challenging holes with elevation changes that make you think before you just grip and rip a driver off every tee.
Great value & nice layout
We played from the black tees (farthest back) and had a wonderful round. Some of the black tee boxes aren't in great shape (seems most people play whites & they were in better shape). The fairways are in good shape, but a bit weedy. Greens rolled true and fairly quick. Lunch is a simple, but affordable. Great place for a fun round with a beautiful view for the money.
A fun and scenic course
This course has some feel good holes. It also has some challenging holes that you have to play smart and not take a driver which could get you in trouble. A scenic waterfall near hole #8 makes this hole a fun elevated 3 par with a bold stream that flows around the back side. I would vote this to be the signature hole of the course. If you have players that do not allow you to play though, it is easy to play a hole ahead and come back later to catch the hole you skipped.
Very enjoyable course
Great time@ the Valley, played 18 in 3 hrs.Course is in good shape with nice fairways and true putting greens.
best shape in years
after playing this course for a number of years, the new owners are giving the course a facelift and working to improve for the future and it shows. the greens are in great condition and a couple of fairways are being worked on to make them better. keep up the improvements.
Nice Mountain Course
This was my first time playing this course, and it was great. The cart paths were good, and the course was in good shape after getting a good amount of rain the night before. This course is fair, but will make you think. The setting is perfect, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Beautiful course
Great scenery and a challenging course. Waterfalls. Mountain views. One of my new favorites.
Fun and challenging course
Well keep course friendly staff only complaint I have is thy need yardage books to help first time visitors. Will haply play it again.
