Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
We play this when we visit
The course was a bit hard and dry. It’s a decent course theT gets a lot of play.
Great Day on Robbers Row
On Wed 3/8 Robbers had fast greens, firm fairways, and was in excellent condition.
This has always been a favorite of mine however the last couple seasons I felt as though the maintenance of the course was not what it once was. Yesterday was the best course conditions I’ve experienced here in a number of years. 👍👍
Slow Pace
The course needs to support their pace of play promise. A five hour round is not acceptable. How about sending a ranger out on the course to speed things up?
Where are the gators?
Vacationing on the Island, I had a chance to play Port Royal Barony. I got to the course a little early and had time to hit the range. After about 15 minutes of warmup, I headed to the first tee. Unfortunately, the women's league had started to tee off (a little early). They were gracious enough to let me pass and start my round on the 2nd hole. I was able to play all 18 holes in about 3 1/2 hours. I was disappointed that there was no GPS in the carts and no gators on the course. Maybe next time...
Good Layout and Conditions
We have played here about 6 times over the last few months. We enjoy the layout, conditions, and pace of play. Will return.
WEH
I was very disappointed at the conditions of the course considering the unseasonably warm spring. Tee to green the course needs “growth” and visually the greens look good but are overwatered and slow! Our place of play for the day was 4:50min which made the day a real challenge.
Pretty good overall
Pace was slow due to group in front being very new to golf. They also had no golf etiquette knowledge - so playing through was not an option. No Marshall either. Course just fine. Staff just fine.
Glacial pace of play ruined round
Five hours on a Monday, during the shoulder season. Are you kidding me?! Waited for group in front of us on every tee. Painfully slow. Greens were in excellent shape, fairways in decent condition. Very little grass on driving range. Thank goodness we were paired up with a couple of nice guys from Brooklyn. No shortage of time to chat on every tee box. If you’re going to play here, get out early before they start squeezing the tee times together to maximize revenue.
Played Robbers Row! Terribly slow pace.
Good layout, fairly good condition, good amenities,, but the pace of play was terrible—- almost 5 hours. Never saw a ranger or anyone to encourage the pace to be picked up. The pace ruined the day.
Great Course
I absolutely loved playing this course. Fairways are in great condition, and the greens are in near perfect condition. Great layout with some challenging holes. The greens are well guarded by bunkers, making your approach shots to be strategically placed. Highly recommended and look forward to playing it again.
Glacial pace of play ruined our round
Five hours on a Monday during the shoulder season. Are you kidding me ?! Greens were in great shape, and the fairways were ok. But, we had to wait on the tee behind the group in front of us on every single hole. Didn’t help that the starter hustled us out to the first tee ten minutes early so they could probably squeeze in a few more groups. If you’re going to play here, suggest you get out early to avoid the madness. Also, can someone please let the guy in the pro shop know that the Westin Resort five minutes from the golf course is a Marriott property? He refused to believe me when I asked for the resort rate. Are we having fun yet?!
GREAT value
Second time through the full 18 on this course, and really enjoyed the round. The front 9 and back 9 are very different, with my preference being the back 9. Maybe I am crazy, but the fairways and greens seem to be much nicer back there.
Overall you can expect good conditions. The fairways are greening up nicely, but a tad thin in some spots (it's only March). Greens were in good shape and nicely maintained. Trees come into play on many holes, and guard the greens pretty well.
Facilities are excellent, practice area is probably the largest I have seen featuring driving range, short area, putting green and 3-hole practice loop! Will be back to play again in a month.
