Windy fun at Isle of Palms
First time playing the Wild Dunes Links course. A Fazio course that I believe he designed with better golfers in mind. There are some really funky holes like no 10, a short par 4 that is guaranteed to bamboozle even the best golfer with its elevation and sloped fairway.
17 and 18 are the only two ocean holes but were playing really hard on Sunday due to high wind off the ocean.
I will definitely play there again given the opportnity
Terrible Experience
This one of two courses on Isle of Palms managed by the Wild DunesResort. Both are overpriced for what you get, especially the Harbor Course. My wife and I played this tight and challenging course this morning after checking out from the hotel. It should have been more enjoyable, but our expectations were dashed once we discovered that there is no driving range and that many holes were under repair, had temporary tee boxes, or had unmarked tee boxes. Perhaps it was too early in the season, but we should have be given a heads-up about conditions when we reserved our tee time and certainly once we checked in. For the quality of conditions, we should have received a discount or other spiff. Nothing was offered, even after my wife tripped in an unrepaired, hard-to-see pothole in the middle orf the cart path just past the tee boxes at hole #15. She fell hard onto the rough asphalt, twisted her ankle, tore her pants, and bloodied her knee. We had to quit for the day and the rest of our stay. We are severely disappointed in this course and its management.
Challenging but beautiful course
Narrow fairways and water can penalize off shots, but the course was beautiful and well-maintained. Would highly recommend
Great play at Harbor
Great experience at Harbor. Course played as advertised. Great greens, many tough holes. Harbor will test your game, especially from the tees.
Simply a delight
Perfect 75 degree February day, great golf course, all employees were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Course was absolutely beautiful and challenging. Fairways and Greens in excellent shape.
Great Course
Played last week at the Links Course at Wild Dunes. With the extremely cold weather in the southeast this winter I was very surprised to find the course in excellent shape. The fairways were overseeded and full of rye. The greens were in excellent shape and rolled smooth and at a very nice speed. The starter was a nice gentlemen, the pace of play was decent, not great. The course is alot of fun to play, and is pretty challenging without killing you. The wind itself is a huge defense for the course. There are not a ton of forced carries. Most of the water in play (marsh and ocean) are on the sides. Most of the fairways are rather forgiving, however, most approach shots tighten up around the greens due to either bunkers or marsh. The greens are rather undulating and its rather easy to 3 putt and hard to get up and down when you miss.
All in all if you can get a deal its worth a play.
Course was in excellent condition, other than being chilly it was a great day.
Challenging but fair
Played in late December fairways and greens were in great shape. Someone must have made the greens keeper mad that morning the pin positions for the weather conditions were beyond tough. Overall the course is challenging and fair not many shots that aren't right in front of you to see. I recommend anyone in the area go oit and play it.
What a great course!! It is narrow and the greens are small so be prepared to have to hit it straight. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. We had really foggy weather which added to the challenge - I can only imagine who beautiful it is when it’s sunny outside
Overall Experience
Teeing ground on every hole was uneven and beat up. Overseeded greeens were very slow, grainy and did not have full coverage...bumpy as well. Course is very tight, penalty both right and left on most holes. Golf course has six par three holes which made it pretty monotonous. Bunkers were very inconsistent, some soft and some like concrete. The green surrounds were either firm/tight or had Bermuda rough. Hard to believe they can call this is a resort golf course and not get out their checkbooks and invest in their maintenance budget to provide guests with a better experience. No plans to return
A lot of fun!
I read the other reviews so I already knew there wasn't a driving range and that the fairways were tight and challenging. That being said - what a pretty course! Fun, interesting, excellent pace of play (3.5 hours). Interesting wildlife and birds. Target golf to be sure and some holes kicked my butt, but I'd play again soon!
Good course
Good course. Somewhat narrow. Would've been nice to have a driving range at the course, but other than that, a pretty decent course.
Not for beginners
The course was beautiful! Tiny greens but rolled good, tight fairways with punishing rough and lots of water.
Very tight
Too tight really. Rough was long but not dense enough. No chance of a decent lie in the rough. The ball automatically fell to the bottom. Around the greens this was very annoying.
A bit overpriced for the area and the competition
Nice course, a fair amount of trouble and nice green complexes. They did not change the cups from the day prior which was not a nice impression.
Great Course, Still too Expensive
This course is great to play. It's short, but the wind comes into play and knocks down the distance on a good amount of shots. Everything was great, from staff to pace of play. The only drawback is that this course is very overpriced. It's worth paying $85 bucks for the prime tee times and about $60 for twilight rates. All that being said, I would definitely play this course over the Harbor course if in Wild Dunes.
Great shape at the moment
And a solid golf course. It is a resort so pace of play can (and was) be an issue.
That said, I would play here again tomorrow. Look for online deals as well.
one bathroom
This course is the second course at Wild Dunes. The course runs a continuous loop of 18 so never comes back to clubhouse until done. There is only one bathroom so you can hit it at 6 and 13 I think. We had a beer and a couple waters because it's hot and there is never anywhere to go to the bathroom. My wife and I had to pass 3 groups on last 3 hotels and come back out and find a place to jump back in between groups to finish only because of no bathrooms. Ridiculous. Holes designed well. Although range balls included, they were only available at the links course 2 miles away. Nice course otherwise.
