4 Star course normally
Just a three star course AT RMTGUS MOMENT because of the aerated (and sandy) greens. It’s a nice layout that will test you at times but is short enough to shoot very well on. The hilly nature of the course is a fun divergence from the ordinary. Today though the greens were so sandy from aeration that it definitely will cost you pars or birdies. Once it rains the greens will be fine though.
1st time Playing
The course itself is in fantastic shape. Would have been nice to have really gotten to play 13-18. After hole 2 we started to back up. By time got to hole 7 we had 5 groups all stacked up. There were a group of 8 playing together then had 3 groups of walkers in front of us. Took 3 1/2 hrs to play 9. We started few mins before 3 and never got to finish our round before dark. Can’t believe they allow this on a sat afternoon. Never seen one course ranger the whole time. Would expect this on a goat farm course but not one of this caliber. Drove almost 3 hrs to play 12 1/2 holes. Been wanting to play this course for long time and was very disappointing to say the least
excellent value
challenging course due to terrain but no water and very rare sand trap. played on saturday early afternoon so bit slow pace but to be expected. recommend the course and will return
Jones Course
Course was beautiful. Greens were superfast. I was just not a good day. Slow players that refuse to let faster groups through. It took 6 and a half hours to play 18 holes. Unacceptable. Some kind of party going on at the club house and you could here people screaming and yelling all over the back nine. Very rude and I cant believe course management allowed this to go on. I won't ever golf here again.
Yes I forgot to mention that in my comment about the loud drunks on the deck hollering and screaming. Must have been one of the groups stacked up with us on 7. Horrible golf outing
First time at Jones
First time on the Jones course. Beautiful day, beautiful course, beautiful scenery! Starter and staff very friendly and informative. I would have given an overall rating of 5 but the pace of play was slow... almost 5 hours and you lose your rhythm while waiting to hit.
Great course
Great course, affordable, most rounds will be well under 4 hours.
Awesome
We were fortunate that we were able to get out a little earlier than our tee time. Nobody in front of us so we were able to play at a nice pace without any delays.
Money's Worth
Really fun course, I'm 63 and can't hit the ball as far as I could back in the day, so the Crispin course although short, had a lot of challenging holes, I think all of the holes except the par threes had fairly steep fair ways, so you really needed to place your tee shot in the right spot or you would be in the rough, although the rough wasn't bad, all in all I'll play it again, felt good to score in the low eightys,
Well worth the drive
First time playing here. It was great! Course is in amazing shape considering how dry and hot it's been. Great layout Challenging but fair. Fairways were immaculate. Greens were on the slwer side, but rolled true. Played from the Whites, but will probably move back a tee next time.
Palmer Course 7/14/20
Was a wonderful day on the Palmer Course at Oglebay. Have played this course a number of times and love it every time. It is a great course with a really cool layout. It is challenging but playable. The conditions, even with how dry it has been, were great. Some of the greens were hard but that was to be expected with the weather we have had. We love this course and would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone.
Great course for a HOT DEAL
Course was in great shape for 90+F degree day ( we teed off at 140 pm). Staff was friendly, but Covid-19 rules played in their ease in helping customers. Greens were superb, with a variety of contours, shapes, and sizes. As a higher end public course, this is definitely worth the trip. Our thanks to all employees there, please continue to be safe in these trying times.
Just wanted to update on here since my round.General Manager Danny Ackerman contacted me and apologized for the slow play issues we encountered. He also went out of the way to arrange a make up tee time to replay. He didn’t have to do that and thought it was a class act. Thank you Mr. Ackerman
