John Montgomery
The putter is almost always the safest option from just off the green. But there are still multiple elements that need to be considered to lag it close consistently. John Montgomery explains them all in this tip.

Great job Carolin! I'll be working with this on my next trip to the range.
Thanks for today's video. Is there a "rule of 12" solution as to how hard to hit it? Like for chipping. Judging the distance is so hard from the fringe and its a very common shot for amateurs. i.e. If its a 15 ft putt including a 5 ft fringe against the grain...hit (think) 20'.
Sorry. posted this to the wrong video.
Great tip
I really like your tips, John. For those of us who are not good with wedges around the green, could you still use a putter in deeper green grass or would you recommend a wedge? Thanks.
The thin contact point of the bladed wedge works best out of the rough but you can certainly use a putter too. Try them both!
Good thought for a putt that needs to go through the fringe.
excellent
Great tip John. Thanks
Thanks so much Aimee for your great tip! It has helped me a great deal.
