Tuff ruff
The rough was too much. Couldn’t find your ball 2’ off the cart path unless you walked right on top of it.
Sand traps were poor, but in the process of being improved.
Monday morning
I played Monday morning , thought I could play before it got too hot, big mistake! Nearly every hole had someone cutting grass, edging, blowing and driving around working on the course. Most of these workers did not move to the side of fairways. I basically had to skip a hole or two. When asked about the course work I was told this is normal for Monday morning.
It would have been nice if I was told about this!
Well manicured, but poor amenities
The course was beautifully manicured, even with recent aeration of the greens. The pace of play was pretty good. My biggest complaint was the amenities. The day I played I came from out of town, it was 92 degrees which I was told was normal for Jackson summers and there was no accommodations for that. Their ice coolers were not filled, you had to request ice and purchase water. There were no free bottles of water given, which seems inhumane in that weather especially since it’s attached to a resort, most places I have been include two free bottles of water and two clean towels in the cart. The rental clubs I paid $60 for were super dirty and only included 10 clubs (missing 8 iron and sand wedge), this isn’t acceptable. There were no ball washing stations present anywhere on the course. These are small things that could make the experience much better.
Sand on greens
All greens were sandy and the person at clubhouse did not tell me
Could have saved me the trouble of putting on sandy greens Very disappointed with the outcome!!
Jackson’s best bayou golf
Fun Time!!
I have played the Refuge for a long time, even before they closed for renovations. The greens, fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. I have played a lot of golf all over the place but the Refuge always stands out as my favorite!! They do need to blow some leaves out of the fairway though.
A golf stay and play worth finding
What I loved most about the Refuge was its full package. The hotel's good. The aqua-range is fun. The view from the Missy Sippy Roof Top Bar is incredible. A nice golf course, redesigned in 2019 by Nathan Crace, completes the experience. There's a lot of water out there, so place your shots judiciously. A lost a few more pellets than I wanted to, but that didn't detract from the experience at all. I'd recommend any golfers coming to Jackson make the eight-mile trek out to The Refuge for a round, followed by dinner and drinks in the sky.
Best bang in the area - public welcome
Best public track in the area for the dollar. Pace of play can be an issue so take off as early as possible 👍🏼
Best public golf course in central MS
Scenic, challenging, playable, and affordable a top-tier public course worth playing.
The course was a great challenge
Loved the course, almost felt like it was private most the time. Would definitely consider buying a membership because of the peaceful course and all the birds. It was a perfect challenge with water lining the side of most holes. Bring more than 12 balls even if you’re fairly good. 10/10 would recommend.
Love this place
Great staff, people, and playing conditions. 5x better than any place in the metro area

If one plays as a single, finding your ball in the rough can be very, very challenging. Grass cut jjust high enough to hide the ball. Otherwise great layout.
