Balgowlah Golf Club

Balgowlah is a short but challenging 9 hole course that is great for a quick social round. The greens are in good condition but the fairways can be a bit patchy in high traffic areas, especially after rain. A shared fairway on the 5th and 6th holes adds interest, but can also create some pace of play issues on busier days. The 7th hole is a standout due to the elevated tee box and blind approach to the green if your first shot is short. Most holes add feature quality bunkering to defend the greens, the exception being the par 3 third, which features a smaller green and a narrow, tree-lined tee shot where accuracy is imperative. Deep bunkering at the front of a recessed green on the par 4 5th is a standout, forcing the player to take on a high pitch shot over the bunkers to avoid rolling out toward the stormwater drain at the back of the green.

Overall I find this to be a very enjoyable course. While it is only short and features more par 3s than most, it deserves a higher rating than it gets.

Very slow, needs to be more time between 4 ball games, due to beginners playing and them taking 6-7 shots to get to par 3 green.

This course was slated to close due to road construction. Now it has a new lease on life (literally). It has a mix of challenging holes and easy ones. It's relatively short but has a couple of holes that really challenge you distance wise. It needs some work on the fairways, but the small greens are well maintained. You do need to have your head on a swivel as some of the fairways are shared . All things considered it is money well spent particularly if you want to shake off your travel rust before playing some of the other courses in Sydney.

Very narrow course with up 4 different groups that were trying to hit a ball on the same fairway going into different directions…..

We booked 18 and stopped after 9 due to temp and damaged greens, the rest of the course was nice though.

Really enjoyed the course, close to the city and fantastic price.

At Balgowlah we were warmly welcomed in the Pro Shop and shown the course. Whilst not long the course is challenging with bunkers guarding most greens.
