Berkshire Valley Golf Course
About
Berkshire Valley has a scenic location in the Highlands region of northern New Jersey. It is known as one of best public golf courses in the area. The course is perched atop the ridge of Green Pond Mountain, providing a dramatic topography for a challenging round of golf. The front of the golf course was carefully carved from a hillside, featuring narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. The first five holes are particularly scenic as well as formidable. There are some open holes that play along the cliffs, subjecting them to the prevailing winds, one of these is the intimidating par-5 third. The Berkshire Valley golf course finishes with its signature hole. This hole can be deceiving since it has a generous fairway, but the second shot is uphill to a tough green.

Golfer Reviews
Gem of a County Course
Stumbled on this gem of a course about an hour from home. Mountain layout with beautiful views and severe elevation changes.Course was in great shape tee to green, rough is thick but fair! Greens are difficult but again fair....most holes break away from the mountain. Will definitely play again! Wish I lived closer!!!
Bad staff
I arrived at Berkshire Valley Golf Course 20 minutes before my reservation, but the clubhouse unilaterally canceled the reservation and accepted another guest.
Mondays
Very nice for a public course. Greens were fast but so many ball marks left unrepaired as well as deer tracks. Fairways were nice on most holes. $35 in county plus cart is a pretty good deal. 130 slope from the blues- a good challenge. Will play again soon.
Spectacular Views
One of the most beautiful courses I have ever played. The first four holes are carved into the side of a mountain from which you get a panoramic view of the entire course. After the first four holes you work your way back down to the flats. Each hole has its own unique look and feel. Greens were a bit slick but fair. Will definitely be going back to play this one again. I'll be able to focus a bit better instead of stopping every few holes, gazing out at the beauty at times was distracting.
Scenic
Top notch views. Fun layout. Fast greens and nice fairways but can tell it's heavily played. Played Saturday afternoon and pace of play was brutal. 3hr front 9. Can only hit irons on the driving range. Definitely worth playing. I will again. Weekday morning though.
Not bad
Course was not bad-played it several times this year-a few bunkers need attention, but overall its a good track/value…thing to complain about is pretty simple, some idiots do not fix ball marks on the greens, not a difficult thing to do-on the 14th day I last played the pins were in some pretty dumb locations-3 steps onto the green, be it from the front, middle, or back…could have been to offer the greens some recovery from the dopes who do not fix ball marks?
Great staff, below average conditions, worst pace of play
The ranger deserves credit, he came out at least twice to try to keep play moving. That said, a 4-hour-45-minute round for a 7am tee time shouldn’t be the norm. The course itself was in rough shape: divots everywhere and greens covered in unrepaired pitch marks. I know there was some recent rain, but at $100+, this isn’t the experience I expected.
Gorgeous and Reasonable
This course was in excellent condition and is one of the last reasonably priced courses around. I hope they continue to deliver the excellent experience at a fair price.
My only complaint would be that we didn’t see a cart girl the whole day.
A enjoyable Friday afternoon round
My friend and I were paired up with another two some at the starters driveway. Two really nice guys and decent golfers. My friend and I had never played at BV and we both thought it is a solid track. Great layout and design, fairways and greens were in good shape and played true (although some knuckleheads who were playing in front of us that day never learned how to fix a ballmark on the greens?!?!), but that is no fault of BV staff. Pace of play was good, and it looked like foursomes in all groups around us . Our two points for the course maintenance team to improve - not all traps have rakes around them, and although there are a lot of traps, giving them periodic rakings and removing rocks would help. Some traps are in good shape, and some are pretty bad.
Great course terrible pace of play
I really enjoy the course however its pace of play is terrible. Yesterday was a 5 hr round waiting on every tee box and a few holes had 4 groups on it one on the green one on the fairway one on the tee box and one waiting. I called for a ranger on hole 2 par 3 and already 3 groups on it. The ranger never came. It was a Friday however I have played on a Monday and a Tuesday same situation Their tee times are 10 minutes apart but it is always backed up early in the round I play Bowling Green 13 minutes between tee times and I always finish in 3hrs 45 minutes and no more than 4hrs 15 minutes
2 rounds here today. Beautiful course
The course is beautiful. In great shape overall. Traps were flooded but the storms this week were terrible so that's expected. Everything else was is perfect condition.
Great shape!
Course played very well. Several challenging holes offset by multiple scoring opportunities.
One pet peeve is pitch marks… there were a lot. Greenskeepers can only fix so many- all golfers need to fix a few when on the greens. Fix yours if you made one, plus two or three more per golfer per hole, and it takes just a minute. That’s over 140 marks repaired per group per round.
Fun day on the 4th
Played at 7:20 July 4th. It was a nice round. They had gotten quite a bit of rain and it was cart path only. That made it a bit tougher of a round but good exercise. Some soggy conditions on a couple of holes but not too bad. Green started a bit slow but picked up as they dried. Pace was fine, waited a couple of times and we finished a little over 4 hours. Hot dog and beer at the 12th (order on the 9th) was perfect for $10 and the dog was delicious. Great day.
