About
Carlton Gipson designed the Golf Club At Cinco Ranch in the early 1990s. It's a long golf course that features an ocean of water impacting play on 16 of 18 holes. For the most part, the holes are straight and open, with minimal trees framing the paths to the greens. The greens are unique because of the unusually shaped bunkers that create very different short game challenges from what one normally finds. One of the best holes is no. 4, a 557-yard par 5 that features an approach shot over water into an elevated green. In addition to the water, the green is fronted by a bunker that is at least 10 feet below the hole. This requires a phenomenal, blind bunker shot for an up-and-down.

Disappointing Conditions
This course used to be in good shape with an acceptable layout. It was always pricey but without any money invested in the course, it makes this an awful value. The bunkers are a hard pan, the greens are dry, the fairways blend in with the rough. Even the cart path is so bad that they are likely so cause an injury. Disappointing.

Faiways are in good condition. The greens appears to have been recently aerated and plugs of dirt were all over the greens!

Afternoon Golf at Cinco Ranch
Hot afternoon golf was slow at 4.5 hours for the round. Greens had not been cut or rolled recently, so were surprisingly slow. Many white tee boxes need seeding or repairs. Fairways were generally well groomed with only minor spots of uncovered hard pan. Traps were in decent shape. Overall average course with very nice Pro Shop and Starter personnel.4

It’s much better now
The last time I played Cinco the green were covered in weeds and going down hill but they were in great shape this time. They were fast and true. The fairways and tee boxes were good as well. I love Cinco and will always be a regular the rest of the summer.

Sandy greens
The course overall was in pretty good condition with the exception of the greens. It didn't appear they had been airrateted but they were heavily sanded with very little watering making for difficult putts . There are also almost no ball washers on the course.

Worst Course in Katy
The course is in the worst condition I have ever seen. Greens look like the surface of the moon with huge craters (how does this happen?) and massive patches of dead/missing turf.
The tee boxes were like hitting off of a driveway--you can't even put a tee in the ground on half of them because they are so dry and hard.
The pace of play is atrocious. It took over 5 hours for us to play 18 holes--we never saw a Marshall enforcing pace of play so we just got to stand around waiting on the group in front of us while being hit into from the group behind us.
The golf cart was grimy and felt like it had been washed off with dog water in the back of a barn.
Paid $14 for a large bucket of balls before my round and the driving range was horrible--there was no grass and it was littered with used tees.
The entire staff here should be embarrassed with this course. This place used to be a good course, but now it's clear that they just don't care for quality and are only focused on volume.
They need to shut down the course maybe 1 day a week for the next year in order to really give it the attention it deserves. Otherwise it will just continue to deteriorate and people will stop showing up for $100 round of golf on a Thursday.

course is in spring transition, booking starts on back nine is a mess
the course is a really nice layout, some nice bunkers and challenging holes. greens were very slow and patchy but it's spring and the grass is transitioning.
biggest complaint is they send people off as close as possible but they're also firing folks off number 10 on the back. I was the second tee time and we played the front in an hour and forty but got to 10 and just stopped.
