About
Carlton Gipson designed the Golf Club At Cinco Ranch in the early 1990s. It's a long golf course that features an ocean of water impacting play on 16 of 18 holes. For the most part, the holes are straight and open, with minimal trees framing the paths to the greens. The greens are unique because of the unusually shaped bunkers that create very different short game challenges from what one normally finds. One of the best holes is no. 4, a 557-yard par 5 that features an approach shot over water into an elevated green. In addition to the water, the green is fronted by a bunker that is at least 10 feet below the hole. This requires a phenomenal, blind bunker shot for an up-and-down.

Lucky day
For the benefit of the doubt, I wanted to try this GC as I heard so many bad comments about the pace of place here. I actually got lucky to finish a full round for about 3.5 hours. That’s amazing. I guessed I just played in the afternoon of one of the hottest week here. Overall, it’s worthwhile. I will try to come back sometime during the cooling season to see how the pace of play is going to be.

Impossibly slow.
EXPECT 5-6 hour rounds out here. It’s booked solid with 4 somewhere that refuse to let you play through. Etiquette isn’t a thing here. The course itself is ok but the amount of time required to play is unrealistic. If I’m a single I should be able to play through. Nope not out here.

Nice and well maintained course
This course continues to be a quality course. The course is well maintained, friendly staff and its easy to randomly join a foursome and the group will be friendly and fun. The course is busy all week and packed on the weekends but the greens and fairways still look great for the heat of the summer. This is one of my favorite courses in the area. It’s not cheap but not over priced.

Disappointing Conditions
This course used to be in good shape with an acceptable layout. It was always pricey but without any money invested in the course, it makes this an awful value. The bunkers are a hard pan, the greens are dry, the fairways blend in with the rough. Even the cart path is so bad that they are likely so cause an injury. Disappointing.

Well Done
Faiways are in good condition. The greens appears to have been recently aerated and plugs of dirt were all over the greens!

Afternoon Golf at Cinco Ranch
Hot afternoon golf was slow at 4.5 hours for the round. Greens had not been cut or rolled recently, so were surprisingly slow. Many white tee boxes need seeding or repairs. Fairways were generally well groomed with only minor spots of uncovered hard pan. Traps were in decent shape. Overall average course with very nice Pro Shop and Starter personnel.4

It’s much better now
The last time I played Cinco the green were covered in weeds and going down hill but they were in great shape this time. They were fast and true. The fairways and tee boxes were good as well. I love Cinco and will always be a regular the rest of the summer.
