Bay Hills Good Needs Some Work
First the good. Staff is always friendly. The course is in pretty good shape. Greens were abnormally VERY fast. When the "OB" area (bunkers and patches) are grown in and actually usable, the course should be much better. They finally made ALL the flags white. They used to have different color flags that are used by all other courses as marking specifications for hole location, but in past Bay Hills fashion there was no rhyme nor reason where they were placed.
Now the badness. Since I have been playing there, if I was a single, I got my own cart, not this time. I was lucky to have a very friendly young "unstoned" person in the cart with me, but this was clearly a money grab to get a double cart fee for a single cart. There were several carts available, so cart allocation was nominal. The first cart we received was damaged, had a bad drive system, and the bag retention system failed dropping my expensive kit on the cement damaging my clubs. When I mentioned this club damage, it was shrugged off by the staff. Clubs are expensive and to have poor cart management cause damage to them. obviously was very agitating. The course had A LOT of areas under repair or new, so the entire course was filled with roped off no go zones. Finally, we had two people in the other cart in our foursome, they both were very short hitters and were playing front tees. They seemingly refused to join us and continually teed off in front of us and play 3-4 shots while we waited for them to clear to we could hit one. This acted as a bulkhead in our round that ruined pace of play for all around. Yet, not a single marshal was seen all day to rectify this situation. Just silly.
Greens were Great
The greens were rolled and consistent. Much better than the Preserve greens I played a few days before. Also happy to see that the two putting greens have been joined and also enlarged. It still needs a little buildup in long "valley" that was created, but otherwise nice.
First round of the year
Course was in overall good shape. Bunkers were under construction so you could not play from them(good thing I didn't land in any bunkers). Was not happy the entire 12th hole was closed. I specifically asked when booking if there was any work being done on the course and I was told no..."We are wide open and ready for play." Exact quote from person who answered the phone.
First time here pleasantly surprised
Course was in nice shape. Greens are quite fast and true. Nice layout with quite a bit of elevation changes making it an interesting round. Pace was decent but there was a very slow group 2 ahead of us but we were two twosomes trailing. The two in front of us gave up about #15.
Decent day out
Very good value for the money, greens in great shape.
Pace of play is a bit of an issue
Common place anymore
New owners are doing great
Honestly since the new owners have taken over it has been great. i have not played here in years until my friend said new owners have really turned the course around. And they are not lying I honestly haven't seen the course in such good shape. Some rough spots here and there on the fairway. But other than that greens perfect and had a great time
Bunkers are “ hard pan” .. no sand.. plenty of sand was on the greens… insert sarcasm here!!
