Still not customer friendly
Still have to drag the bag back to the car as carts are still not permitted in parking area. At the very least there should be some hand carts to roll the bag back to the car. Especially needed for Seniors!
No coolers, even just for water! That’s just ludicrous. People can sneak whatever they want on to course if they try hard enough.
The ONLY reason I continue to play here, is the lack of availability elsewhere. I only end up here once or twice a season
Always a pleasant experience
One of the most well taken care of courses in south Jersey. Never been experienced poor conditions here. Sand traps get raked regularly. Tee boxes are generally good to hit off of. They clearly take the time to make sure things stay consistent.
In terms of playing, some holes are fairly straightforward and relatively easy to usually at least par, but several others are quite challenging and really make you think about club selection. And the greens here are wild and very tough at times. The green on 18 has this huge mound in the middle of it. Putting over that is an adventure. But you can't go wrong playing here. Employees are always nice and polite, too. They also use the good quality potato bread buns for the hotdogs at the halfway house near the 10th hole. 👍
Review of Westwood Course
I've played this course many times..This particular day my friend and I.were.paired up with a couple we hadn't met before..They were very nice and everything was going great unti.the course ranger came up.to.us.on.the 4th holder and.told.us.the foursome behind us was.complaining we were playing to.slow. We were on pace.
The course was not crowded and there was no.reason for.them.to.comlplain..If they think. They're so good they need to.play faster they should go to.a.more.expensive course that has less people playing
Funky
Course conditions were excellent. My compliments to the staff. The layout is crazy though. I’ve never played par 3s where the tee shot is partially blind. Course knowledge is key. I’ll come back because it’s in great condition but the layout is kooky.
First 18 of the season
Course was if good shape for early in the season and being a public course. Couple of holes were cart path only. Beverage stand at the front for quick food and drinks. Very friendly staff. I had an issue with my cart they replaced car and also gave be credit for next round.
Light winds and rain
I have played 3 different courses in March and Westwood’s rough and fairways in the best shape. Four of us played in less then 4 hours even though it was cart path only.
Unnecessary cart path only restrictions
The course was bone dry in 99% of the playing areas. Yet the course was cart path only. Forcing our foursome of of 70 and 80 year old players to walk much more than we would have expected.
Front 9 Only - Decent Layout, Challenging Greens, Closed Tee Boxes
Paid $38 to play the front 9. No driving range. Two practice greens. Cannot take golf carts to the parking lot. Beverage stand at the front. Staff were friendly. Two holes you had to tee off from either the rough or a dirt patch. Both holes tee boxes have been under repair for what feels like years now. 70 degrees and sunny the day we played and no rain the day before, but they insisted cart path only. We were told pace of play was good, but as we approached the second tee there was a three team back up. Fairways were in good condition. Same for the rough. Almost every green felt like there was a steep incline front to back so putting and chipping into were challenging and the greens were in fairly okay condition. A few blind shots into greens. Warm up before hand because you start with a par 5 into a drivable par 4 then right into another par 5. Nothing truly awful. It is an okay front 9 aside from the two holes with no tee box. The hole layouts are fairly easy, but the greens were challenging. Maybe two trash cans through the whole 9 and they were both towards the end. Just a note, We did a twilight round starting at 4pm and it felt like the last 5 holes were played directly into the sun. Wasn't the end of the world, but was annoying. Overall price was a little steep for 9 holes with cart path only and two closed tee boxes. Wouldn't recommend, but wouldn't tell someone to never play it.
A work in progress
It’s still under repair with a few tee boxes being substituted with mats or just 2 posts in the grass. Fairways and greens were in good shape. They are working on a few sand traps as well. I like to see there is work progressing and they are making the place better. Ill be back
Nice course and layout, frustrating staff and policies
I tried to play early in the year but was rained out. While waiting to try to get out, the Pro Shop staff was condescending and unhelpful to people coming in.
After waiting 45 minutes, the course (which was stated as closed) let a big group of school kids out on the course.
When I made my tee time, I paid a Golf Now rate. I checked that there were two additional spots at the tee time and called to ask if my teenage son could play walking. They only had one rate of $54 to play. Staff very unhelpful.
Had to stop after 9
Course tee boxes were in bad shape. We were playing in strong weather. Stop playing after 9 holes.
Nice local course
Always a good time at Westwood. Typical public course with other players being the hazards but the course is in good shape.
DO NOT PLAY
absolutely horrific course for 2 main reasons: 1. the place of play is HORRIBLE, the worst i’ve ever experienced. took 6 hrs and couldn’t even finish 18 before it got dark. 2. the staff are horrible, kick people off the course if they aren’t a full 4.
in addition: there’s crab grass everywhere, divots no one fix, and YOULL BE HELD UP THE WHOLE TIME I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH THE WORST COURSE MANAGEMENT EVER. pay or drive a little extra and play anywhere @philly golfers
First time, enjoyable round ruined by ranger
I have passed over this place for few years now due to many negative reviews with some good ones mixed in. Decided to try it and was pleasantly surprised with the good conditions. Greens were fast and true, fairways decent, tee boxes okay. Got paired with 3 fun guys and the starter was very professional, friendly, helpful and informative. Mid-way through front nine the power-hungry ranger told us we were 10min behind and several groups AHEAD of us were also. After picking up the pace a bit he approached us again a few holes later saying the same, never mentioning groups behind us, as none were waiting on us. We again felt rushed and uncomfortable. Few holes later were approached a third time and told we would have to skip a hole if we don't pick up the pace. We were already picking up our ball after a bad shot or two on some holes just to rush off to the next hole. We pointed out the group BEHIND us was 1 1/2 holes BEHIND us and were so most of the round. He told us that did not matter to him but that we were being timed as 10min behind the 4hr pace. We played in 4hr10min, not so unreasonable, especially considering all 4 of us were 1st timers there and there is inadequate signage of where to proceed throughout. This pushy, unrealistic, unreasonable and rude fool ruined what should have been a wonderfully surprising enjoyable 1st experience there that I would gladly revisit, due to his power-hungry nature. He should take a lesson from the wonderful welcoming starter. Likely won't be back to waste $75 for such harassment when there are many other courses in the area with much better experiences and better rates. Sad really.
