Strange layout.cannot hit driver on any par 5s, 5hr round, rangers did not do anything. tee boxes are uneven
Tight course
This can be a challenging course with the slopes, dog meds, tight fairways and pin placement.
Somers National Golf Club – Review
Overall, I had a solid experience at Somers National Golf Club, but with a few things worth noting.
I drove about 45 minutes to get there for a 9:10 AM tee time I booked. When I arrived around 9:00, the ranger told me to check with the clubhouse because my time had been moved to 9:40. After checking in, they radioed the starter and confirmed that the threesome I was paired with was already at the first tee waiting for me. They quickly arranged for a staff member to drive me over, which I appreciated.
I ended up sharing a cart with one of the guys in the group. While that’s pretty standard, I personally would have preferred my own cart, but I understand that’s not always possible. Once at the tee, we still had to wait for the group ahead to clear, so the timing shuffle didn’t really save any time.
The staff, especially the ranger at the first tee, were very friendly and welcoming. He even joked that we could’ve left our drivers at home—and honestly, he wasn’t wrong. I only pulled mine out maybe twice the entire round.
The condition of the course was good overall. The tee boxes were well kept, and the course itself is clearly maintained. The greens were definitely a standout challenge—fast, firm, and with tough hole placements that made putting a real test.
As for the layout, it’s definitely on the more challenging side. If you’re a 15+ handicap, expect a tough round. I played from the gold tees based on my game, and I’d recommend others be realistic about their tee selection as well. This was my second time playing here, and while the course is well-kept and demanding, it can be a grind.
All in all, it was a good experience with friendly staff and a unique, challenging layout. That said, between the drive, the level of difficulty, and the pricing, I’m not sure I’d make the trip again anytime soon. I can shoot my usual 95+ scores closer to home for a similar cost. That’s not a knock on the course—just my personal preference.
I’d definitely consider coming back in the future once my game improves and I’m ready to take it on a bit more confidently.
Very nice course, 5 out of 5 stars. Very challenging dog legs mixed in with some water holes, make sure to bring an extra dozen of balls.
An Enjoyable Day of Golf at Somers
What a fun round of golf! My son and I were paired with 2 young men from the area who knew the course. The course was tough, but fair. It was in wonderful shape and the fall colors added to the beauty of venue. I can’t wait for our next round. I recommend it strongly. PJQ
Tough course, challenging greens
Although the greens weren’t super fast, the relations made them challenging. Tough course!
Getting to the greens was half the fun. Well, not particularly long. There are a number of holes that play narrow, because the ball rolls downhill left to right or right to left. Overhang trees, narrow the view and the shot. A number of uphill climbs add to the difficulty as well.
What’s the friendly and waiting for me when I arrived. I had time to warm up, but the best way to play this course used to have played it before and nowhere to expect on a number of T-shirts, dog legs, and uphill placements.
Great but difficult course
This course received 2 inches of rain the day before I played it but dried out pretty well once the sun came out.
This was the most difficult course I’ve played. Every tee shot had to be perfect then second shot needed to be perfect from around 200 years. Definitely pull out the 3 wood not the driver.
Challenging course, with no frills
The course is very challenging. Massive sloping fairways and tough greens. Greens were a little abused by some club divots. Poor form on players.
Carts have no digital displays, just standard gas cart with usb plugs. Cart paths are pretty bumpy.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, but the grille had no chef and was only serving drinks and premade foods. Bathrooms are clean.
