Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Course in good shape except for Greens
The greens were in horrible shape, it looked like a vehicle with tracks had driven across all of them.
Conditions at Putnam golf course
This courses greens were in horrendous condition, yes they were aerated, however there was large bare mud spots all over every green,the were unsuitable to putt on.This course should be shut down for the remainder season.If this course doesn't address this,they probably will lose every green.These conditions were not mentioned before playing and in all fairness, i should be reimbursed at least half what i paid, 57$.I highly highly recommend not playing here
Very slow to play
It took us close to 3 hours to play nine holes, in front of us a group of 7kids in 4golf carts with three sets of golf clubs. We all were new players at one tome, but seven in one group and just slowing down the rest of the field os frustrating. It does not happen often, but it was a Saturday, we know is busy, but like that?
The fairways are in great shape
All in all the only issue I have is paying 73.00 to play golf as a 68 year old. To steep for my skill level.
Wear a Helmut
To many young men, hitting balls all over the place. Pace of play was painfully slow and no one monitoring all the people playing. Better places to play!!!
Great value with golf pass
I haven't played this course in probably 10 years. But I got such a great discount with golf pass I decided to give it another shot. The staffing, starters were very friendly and they paired me up with a real nice guy and we got out a little early. The course was in pretty good condition, wasn't crazy about the greens they were a little small with a lot of undulation and the pace of play was a little slow
Very good public course
Other than a few fairways that are pretty tight, this is a very nice course at a fair price. Fairway conditions were really good and greens are fast!
Good Course for the money
It’s in great shape. Course is always packed due to its low cost. Tight course. You will hear a lot of “FORE” on the course. If you have patience then this place is for you
If you have 6 hours and want a dent in your car this is the place for you
Each hole was at least a 15 minute wait and the round took 6 hours. The holes are on top of each other so there's 3 groups on a hole hitting to different greens. I think I head fore about 100 times from people hitting to different fairways. Took forever. Course is in decent shape tho
Waiting
While conditions continue to improve the slow pace of play and lack of course management is evident while entire back nine sat open I as a single was paired with three novice golfers then proceeded to wait on every hole to play. Clearly better management should be implemented to ease,pace of play. No common sense here. Enjoy conditions super is great. Bring a lawn chair.
