Perhaps the best part of modern golf is the relaxation of the dress code.
The proliferation of new companies and brands making golf attire is good for the game. We don't all have to look alike anymore.
Some brands tout bold and beautiful colors - golf peacocking, if you will - while others stick to solid colors and traditional looks. You can steer in whatever direction your heart desires.
All of this competition for you fashion dollar is helping to keep prices low for upstart brands and new companies trying to win your favor. It's now easier than ever to find a really good golf polo for less than $100. We've worn dozens of different brands out on the course to test their durability and comfort. These are the brands that continue to impress.
How to buy the best golf shirt under $100 for you: 3 tips
1. Be yourself
Don't worry what other golfers think about your wardrobe. Let your personality shine. Want to be goofy and fun? Shop for Tipsy Elves. Want to be seen from three fairways over? Buy some Sunday Swagger. Want to look serious when you step to that first tee with your boss? Pick something clean from Lululemon. Want to look casual and chill? unTUCKIT looks best when choose this route.
2. Materials matter
How shirts that cost less than $100 are made varies widely, so make sure you're reading web descriptions and labels carefully before you purchase. The most popular polos from Linksoul are cotton - great for California but bad for the humid Southeast - but there are other styles created from other materials, including recycled ocean plastic. Don't just assume that all polos made from the same company are the same styles.
3. Don't fret that they won't last forever
While we recommend you take good care of your clothing to the best of your ability, it's not a surprise that more affordable shirts don't last as long as more expensive ones. If you rip your shirt on a nail or dump a boatload of ketchup, it's not the end of the world that you need to toss your shirt and buy another. Losing a $120 polo to an accidents will feel a lot more painful than a shirt that costs roughly half that amount.
Ashworth

The iconic 1990s and early 2000s brand, popularized in part by Fred Couples' effortless cool, has relaunched for the 21st century and, as of a few months ago, has founder John Ashworth back at the helm. Now that the golfers who came of age back in those heady golf-fashion days have disposable income of their own, Ashworth has wisely resisted the urge to diverge from the unfussy aesthetic that got them here in the first place. - Tim Gavrich

Ben Sherman

Ben Sherman, a men's brand from overseas, launched its first into golf fashion in 2024 by signing Denny McCarthy. Traditionally the brand Ben takes its inspiration from music, fashion and culture. The Radio Stack Tech Jersey Sports Fit Polo ($79) reveals a mix of Union Jack flags, boom boxes and cassette tapes: the perfect nod to my generation of music. The Vertical Stripes Polo mixed four shades of blue to perfection. The quick-drying, anti-odor, moisture-wicking fabrics are not only comfortable but perform in the elements. - Jason Scott Deegan

FootJoy
The array of golf shirt options offered by Titleist's shoe and apparel arm is dizzying, but has been a staple of pro shops and retail outlets for years for good reason. FJ has dialed in their fit recently - their shirts used to run extremely large - and offer all manner of colors, stripes and prints. You could fill your whole closet with FootJoy shirts and not even scratch the surface of their offerings. - TG

Greatness Wins
You don't have to be a New York Yankees fan (I'm definitely not) to enjoy the stretchy, smart-colored and well-cut golf shirts by this brand co-founded by Derek Jeter. The 'G' incorporated into a shield makes for an appealing logo. - TG

Lululemon

These are the softest golf shirts I've ever worn. Like the popular women's yoga pants, they tend to be form fitting without feeling restrictive. That said, you might consider ordering a size larger just to make sure it fits properly. The ShowZero™ technology eliminates the appearance of sweat on the outside, while staying dry on the inside. Perhaps the only downside is that only solid colors are offered. - JSD

Sunday Swagger

We love the bold, imaginative style of the LA-based Sunday Swagger. Multiple times a year there are interesting fashion drops and collabs. The most recent one brought about a darker look inspired by the brown-and-black goodness of Guinness. All polos are designed with a 4-way stretch, UPF 40 sun protection and moisture wicking characteristics, so there is some technology to go along with the comfort. - JSD

tasc Performance polos

These super-soft, sustainable polos are made responsibly. The company tasc is the only brand on the market with a completely chemical-free product that's still comfortable and performs well on the course. Eric Cole, the 2022-23 PGA TOUR rookie of the year, serves as brand ambassador. The "Happy Hour" Cloud polo features a fun pattern of drinks. The moisture-wicking fabric helps on hot and humid days. - JSD

Under Armour
Like FootJoy, Under Armour has been a workhorse golf apparel brand for decades now, and while the quality isn't quite as stunning as that of the first UA golf shirt I ever owned - a high school golf team shirt that is as pristine today as the day it was given to me in 2006 - the Baltimore-based giant still gives solid value for the dollar. - TG
