The proliferation of new companies and brands making golf attire is good for the game. We don't all have to look alike anymore.

Some brands tout bold and beautiful colors - golf peacocking, if you will - while others stick to solid colors and traditional looks. You can steer in whatever direction your heart desires.

All of this competition for you fashion dollar is helping to keep prices low for upstart brands and new companies trying to win your favor. It's now easier than ever to find a really good golf polo for less than $100. We've worn dozens of different brands out on the course to test their durability and comfort. These are the brands that continue to impress.

1. Be yourself
Don't worry what other golfers think about your wardrobe. Let your personality shine. Want to be goofy and fun? Shop for Tipsy Elves. Want to be seen from three fairways over? Buy some Sunday Swagger. Want to look serious when you step to that first tee with your boss? Pick something clean from Lululemon. Want to look casual and chill? unTUCKIT looks best when choose this route.

2. Materials matter
How shirts that cost less than $100 are made varies widely, so make sure you're reading web descriptions and labels carefully before you purchase. The most popular polos from Linksoul are cotton - great for California but bad for the humid Southeast - but there are other styles created from other materials, including recycled ocean plastic. Don't just assume that all polos made from the same company are the same styles.

3. Don't fret that they won't last forever
While we recommend you take good care of your clothing to the best of your ability, it's not a surprise that more affordable shirts don't last as long as more expensive ones. The Radio Stack Tech Jersey Sports Fit Polo ($79) reveals a mix of Union Jack flags, boom boxes and cassette tapes: the perfect nod to my generation of music. These are the softest golf shirts I've ever worn. Like the popular women's yoga pants, they tend to be form fitting without feeling restrictive. That said, you might consider ordering a size larger just to make sure it fits properly. The ShowZero™ technology eliminates the appearance of sweat on the outside, while staying dry on the inside. The most recent one brought about a darker look inspired by the brown-and-black goodness of Guinness.
