Since its release on July 25, Happy Gilmore 2 has already set multiple streaming records. It brought in 46.7 million views in its first three days, the largest opening weekend for any Netflix movie in the United States. Despite the viewership success, fans appear to be divided on whether the sequel is a worthy follow-up to the iconic original or better left in the rough.

We took to the GolfPass Facebook community and asked followers for their thoughts on the film. Similar to Happy himself, they didn’t hold back on their opinions. We’ve gathered the best and worst of them here.

The good

* "Yes. Perfect blend of nostalgia with nice tips of the cap to the original with enough new content and differences to keep it new and fresh. Perfect for what it was intended to be…a fun escape for an hour or so to turn off your brain and laugh at the world we live in.” - Drew Butler

* “The Scottie in jail running joke was worth the watch for me” - Mike Fix

* “Great movie. A sequel doesn’t usually impress but this stands alone as a separate movie, with a separate premise. There was the expected goofiness but there were moments of sadness and reflection where you felt AGING was a secret subject matter going on in this movie. The old guard watching over to the newcomers. Both golf/sports and entertainers. All in all, it leaves you with a lot of reflection while being entertained in the same way Sandler has always entertained. (K)udos for including the family.” - Carl Kriebel

* “If you expected an Emmy award winning experience, you should not have started watching. It was silly, fun, and had my wife and I laughing a lot. Just the cameos were worth the watch. "Oh no, not again." - Ed Mueller

* “I thought it was the perfect sequel to an untouchable original. Definitely not better, but it's not supposed to be. It's relevant with today's society, has tons of great cameos and throwback humor to the original. I loved it!” - Brando Guy

* “Loved the way the golf community came together to be part of it. Stupidly funny, loved it.” - Jack Soccorso

* “Loved it! So many golf legends acknowledging Happy Gilmore's influence on the real game of golf. The plot is silly, of course, and I Ioved Christopher McDonald!” - Sam McCelland

The bad

* “I gave it a double bogey” - Scott Rogers

* “The last 40 minutes are so stupid that the film becomes an unfunny joke.” - Greg Hoke

* “It felt more like “how many people can we shove into one movie” instead of an actual movie. Idk it was kinda weird but it still made me laugh.” - Donnie Ross Dawson

* “None of it was funny. Skipped through most of it. Poor performance. I can't help but feel Adam Sandler was press ganged into making this sequel.” - Kevin Walker

* “Felt rushed and not well thought out. Just a bunch of cameos but in today's world that's not hard. Second half was just painful to watch and I couldn't finish it. It started strong and just got more and more corny. Just seemed sloppy. Cameos carried the movie” - Kyle Andrew

* “Anyone who says this is a good movie is why they don't have to try harder to make actual good movies anymore.” - Steven Ratcliff

* “Horrible. Adapted quote from a good Sandler movie sums it up... What you've just shown us is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever watched. At no point in your rambling, incoherent sequel were you even close to anything that could be considered a decent movie. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having watched it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.” - Rob Copeland

The (potentially) ugly

* “The golf part was a little too gimmicky for me, but I may try that surgery. Definitely won’t watch it as many times as I’ve watched the original, but it had its moments!” - Jim Howard

Mindless and dumb, why couldn't they try harder and do better. I know it's supposed to be slapstick comedy, but come on, so much potential wasted for a fast payday.
