Located in Avon Lake, Sweetbriar Golf Club boasts two scenic 18-hole courses that are routed through natural wetlands and forests. The front nine of the Legacy Course was built in 2002 and the back nine was added in 2007. The nines have different landscapes, creating a diverse set of holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag. The front nine has a links design with winding fairways and large greens while the back nine was carved from forests. With natural wetland areas and a number of interesting risk-reward par 5s, the back of the golf course has more of an east coast feel. The other 18-hole course at Sweetbriar was built in the 60s. It is shorter than the Legacy but is still challenging, which makes it great for beginners.

This course needed work

This course could definitely use some work on it. There was standing water everywhere especially in the middle of fairways. You should not be penalized for hitting in the fairway. Cart girls drove right past us several times without even stopping. The food selection when making the turn was terrible. Hot or nothing. And that wasnt even good. If they spent a little more time on this course instead of directing all their attention to the Legacy course it would be nice too!

Easy course - good value for money

Not long, wide open

Not very well kept as compared to Legacy.

But for deals ranging from $12-$18, this course beats being on the driving range.

Club house could put some water coolers on the course - that could be useful!

Grumpy Grandpa Starter Bad Introduction to Good Course

Easily accessible from the West Side, Sweetbriar is a nice course with tidy fairways and well-maintained greens.

However, some of their senior staffers epitomize the bad customer service that their Baby Boomer brethren deplore in Gen Xers and Millenials.

Multiple times now I have witnessed a curmudgeonly starter tell patrons he has "nowhere to put them," as though he was a 70+ year old manifestation of the overwhelmed hostess whom guys his age complain about at Bob Evans.

This reflects directly on course management which either over books a course or neglects to ensure a culture of customer service.

This is a shame because the convenient location and good groundskeeping call for better.

One of few good public course options locally

Well maintained course. Greens in great shape though the course is overplayed in my opinion. Fair course with some challenging holes.
Major drawback is the almost always painfully slow pace of play.
I played behind 2 foursomes of elderly ladies. Ranger would come by me and watch and say nothing. Played in 3:45. Would have been through in 3 or less had the ladies let me play through.

Sweetbriar Golf - Legacy Course

Great course for the money. The pace of play was very slow. No ranger assistance to speed up play. I would recommend this course to others.

High quality public course

Cool windy day on a very well maintained course. Early AM tee time and played in just under 4 hours. Greens were rolling a good clip. Fairways and rough in great condition. Enjoyable round would certainly encourage play here

Nice Course

Course was for the most part in pretty good shape. Some tee boxes were under construction which made some of the holes real short. On 1 par 4 I had to tee off with a PW as the boxes was moved up so far ahead and it was a dog left Right with trees covering the bend.

The course was as expected.

Nice club house. Course was as expected. Play was pretty slow as it was Memorial Day. Greens in good shape as were the fairways. "Construction " on at least 5 holes.
Staff friendly and helpful. Could never find the Cart Girls and they were out as we saw them on distant holes.

Great Track!

The greens were aerated, but it's hard for me to complain considering I paid $24 for 18 and a cart. In mid-season, it's my understanding that 18 and a cart is priced around $55+

The rest of the course was in pretty good shape. Some of the bunkers have been taken out, which I believe takes away from the character and challenge of the golf course. The 6th hole needs to be redone to be closer to it's original playability.

Greens plugged and sanded - poorly

There was no mention of it, but the greens were plugged and sanded, and not rolling true at all. It was a nice day and had the course to ourselves. The fairways were mostly average, with some areas needing work. Tee boxes were in good shape. Seems like most of the effort goes into the Legacy course. Probably worth the $10-$15 bucks more to play Legacy.

nice course but don't pay full price

Found a hot deal to play a local favorite. Pretty open course, nice greens. Not much as far as elevation changes. No cart girl on a Saturday? Unacceptable.
