Sweetbriar Golf Club - Legacy 18
About
Located in Avon Lake, Sweetbriar Golf Club boasts two scenic 18-hole courses that are routed through natural wetlands and forests. The front nine of the Legacy Course was built in 2002 and the back nine was added in 2007. The nines have different landscapes, creating a diverse set of holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag. The front nine has a links design with winding fairways and large greens while the back nine was carved from forests. With natural wetland areas and a number of interesting risk-reward par 5s, the back of the golf course has more of an east coast feel. The other 18-hole course at Sweetbriar was built in the 60s. It is shorter than the Legacy but is still challenging, which makes it great for beginners.

Sweetbriar
a little less effort from legacy and tad into sweetbriar would be nice.
Good Shape for Mid-April
Overall, the course was in good shape for mid-April as well as having had an inch + rain a few days earlier. The fairways were in very good shape. There was quite a bit of standing water, but you generally had to be off the beaten path to be impacted by it. The greens were a bit slow, but putts rolled true. It was a great value with a $19.99 hot deal (don't expect to see that again). The course will only get better as the weather improves.
Long day!
Greens were in great shape for this time of the year. Definitely not the course to play when carts are not allowed off paths. It is too bad that walking is not allowed on Legacy. Course should provide sand for fixing divots and on tee boxes of par 3.
All in all a good day but slow play is a constabt at this course.
Course condition for early season is great
Greens were firm and for the most part very healthy for it being this early in spring. Can't wait to see how it looks in a month
Golf legacy
Good greens , challenging for all levels . 5 sets of tees
Sweetbriar is a favorite course. Why don't I play it more?
Played Sweetbriar on Saturday morning. Fall conditions: overcast, leaves coming down. But no one was in front of us (played as a two-some with my son), and no one was directly behind us, which makes it the perfect golf day. The course is challenging enough for us (not club players, but decent). Fairways were in good condition, even though they had been aerated (sp?). Greens were in great condition, too. As we left, we asked the question in the subject line: why don't we get out here more? Great course, decent price, well worth it.
very nice course if not for....
really enjoy this course. great pace of play challenging enough to keep you interested. except for the inches of rain the night before which had a TON of casual water all over the course, and the wind which was howling. but that's not the fault of the course or staff which is excellent.
great time
Course was a little wet on several holes. Otherwise course was great.
Nice course - overpriced
This is a nice course, challenging but not tricked up. However $45 for a weekday is terrible. Two of us found it on Golfnow for $25 and that is a great deal but who are they kidding with $45 and $27 for nine? No wonder people are not golfing anymore.
Good modern course close to westside
I payed as a single but got paired up with 3 other golfnow players. Went out after a shotgun scramble, we played the front in a an hour and twenty minutes. With the recent rains and cooler temps the course was a little wet, but not sloppy. It always seems a little wet in some areas. Greens were the most receptive I've ever played, we were spinning shots back the entire day. It's a fun course that you can score well on if you are hitting it well.
Awesome layout
This is a great course. It is always well maintained. Tight fairways and long rough that you will want to avoid. Greens roll very nicely. I come here as often as I can.
nice holiday
course was good, not the legacy course but good for the money. greens were nice .
Great shape
Course was in great shape and played well got right about at scheduled tee time
Beautiful course but absolutely clogged up!
I played with one partner and we are both high handicappers. We are relatively patient because we don't take ourselves too seriously. The pace of play was absolutely unacceptable, even for us. It took us nearly 3 hours to play 9 holes with extreme wait times on each hole. Then we encountered very rude patrons that were "hurrying us" and bombing balls within yards of our cart. I would agree that I was possibly out of my difficulty range on this course but I play very conscious of the golfers ahead and behind me and it seemed like no one here reciprocated those manners.
I will admit that once we finished our 1st nine we played a normal back nine with an almost open course. Which makes me think that the management wasn't on top of things.
Now on to the good stuff!
The course is designed for intermediate or advanced golfers. Average golfers can make it with good pace and I would definitely enjoy it with less people. There are some absolutely stunning pictures to be had here during twilight hours. I can't remember exactly what hole on the back nine had the most scenic grove of trees that lead to a par 3 but as a golfer/photographer it would definitely be a beautiful fall course. I wouldn't recommend playing it on a golf now deal and I wouldn't say the prices were affordable. Definitely think about your choice playing here.
Excellent
Beautifully kept . We played at Legacy . Had fun . Great course
Condition of greens
The greens were not in very good shape. There were a lot of ball marks and cleat marks that were not fixed. This caused us to have to do a lot of maintenance each time we were on a green and before each putt. As a result, the greens were bumpy and some if the putts were sent offline from hitting the ball marks and cleat marks. We were not happy about the overall condition of the greens.
Not a quick round
The biggest problem I have with playing the Sweetbriar course is that it seems all the beginners and high schools play this track. While I am not opposed to this, it can make for an extremely long round if you are behind them. Starters NEVER let you go off the back 9 first, even if nobody is making the turn. Overall condition is okay. Several holes could use some TLC in the fairways and rough. Found myself in puddles on the fairways (hadn't rained in days) and rocky dirt patchs in the rough. Greens were all pretty good. I suggest giving it a play, but use the blue tees. If you don't use GN the price is in the average range. Nice facility and restaurant.
Excellent day of gplf
Very fair test of your abilities. Greens were Excellent.
Sweetbriar Legacy
Sweetbriar Legacy is one of the best courses in northeast Ohio. The course is kept in mint condition from the rough, to the fairways, to the greens, and even in the hazards. The staff is very nice as long as you're keeping pace of place. The facilities and clubhouse are very nice and clean. The course condition are open on some holes and tight on others but everything is well maintained. Great course to play and highly recommended to anyone who is an above average golfer. Amateurs and beginners should stay on Sweetbriar's regular course.
