Sweetbriar Golf Club - Legacy 18
About
Located in Avon Lake, Sweetbriar Golf Club boasts two scenic 18-hole courses that are routed through natural wetlands and forests. The front nine of the Legacy Course was built in 2002 and the back nine was added in 2007. The nines have different landscapes, creating a diverse set of holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag. The front nine has a links design with winding fairways and large greens while the back nine was carved from forests. With natural wetland areas and a number of interesting risk-reward par 5s, the back of the golf course has more of an east coast feel. The other 18-hole course at Sweetbriar was built in the 60s. It is shorter than the Legacy but is still challenging, which makes it great for beginners.

Course in poor condition
Reserved a 9:52 a.m. tee time, Arrived 30 minutes early, didn't tee off until 10:20. Greens in good shape, fairways and rough full of chewed up muddy areas that seem to have gone unattended all summer. Slow pace.
Sweerbriar
Group in front of us was slower than snails in a race. No marshall to force them to speed up their pace. Round should have never take 5:45 minutes to play
Sweetbriar
Outstanding course with friendly staff and professional grounds keepers. Difficult course that challenges the average player but maybe too hard for a beginner. Good practice facilities and club house.
Leagcy 18
Sweetbriar GC in Avon Lake has 2 18 hole courses. The Legacy 18 is set up to challenge every club in a player's bag. Greens rolled true when we played, front 9 more open vs back 9 with more tree lined fairways and needed to shape shots accordingly.
Legacy coarse plays like a private club
Would play every week if I had the time. Coarse is well maintained.
great local course
Heavy rain the previous night but the course was excellent condition...some water in the bunkers but crew was working on drying them and raking them. Greens were great but rough was high and thick.
Great Day at Legacy
Course in nice shape, even though heavy rains day before. Greens were slow due to wet conditions - once dried out probably better. Nice layout, comfortable to play. Be sure to play from back tees to enjoy design. Overall good value.
Great day
One of the best in Ohio. I will be back. They have a great selection of scotch.
Best Public Course on Westside of Cleveland
Great course and facility. Friendly staff. I would reccomend to anyone from or visiting the area.
Early morning
Got out early in the morning. Course in great shape and good pace of play with golfers in front of me even though was by myself.
fastest round in a long time
Teed off just before 7am. There is a big drainage problem in the fairways. A lot of bare spots in fairways due to water. Grass in fairways long because too much water to cut. Greens in good shape. No one in front of us so we finished in under 3 hours. If it weren't for the bare spots it would have gotten a higher score. Not as challenging as the legacy 18. This is a good course for high handicappers.
Nice course that is short and fairly easy
Staff in clubhouse worked easily with GolfNow and was friendly. Tee time was before 8AM - We had no delays getting cart and to the first tee. No one in front of us so play was smooth. course was in nice condition. Be warned, it is short and relatively easy.
Slow play Sunday
The majority of the yardage markers are pretty far off so use with caution. The front took 2 hrs and 45 minutes, back took even longer. When our group said something to the starter at the turn, he said that it is to be expected on a Sunday morning and this is about average. I have golfed for several years all over the US and have never heard of 2 hrs 45 min being "average". They need better rangers that monitor pace play better
Nice course
I played 18 at 630am, was done by 830am . Perfect mix of hard/easy holes...Fairways a little dry but greens are perfect
Nice course, good value
Played course at 0630am on a Saturday. Course was in excellent condition. Only complaint was they put groups off both sides and they do so till late in the morning, our fast round was slowed by a slow foursome who had just started on the back 9.
Beautiful course, but not for the average player.
Course itself isn't that difficult if you stay in the fairway. Unfortunately, if your even a bit off track you may look for your ball for a long time. The rough was very deep. Greens are in good condition. Fast.
Great day
I enjoyed it very much and had a great time with the other two some they paired us up with.
Slow bumpy greens
The fairways and rough in good shape, the rough has numerous bald patches, which created unfair lies in some high rough areas. The greens are bumpy and slow!
Great course.
I played Sweetbriar (Legacy) for the first time and came away very impressed. This is easily one of the nicer courses in the Cleveland area. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in pristine condition. The rough was thick and high and will give high handicap players a lot of trouble. Lots of trees lining the fairways and water comes in to play on many of the holes. Bunkers were all raked nicely. The only thing that some people may mind is that the course winds through houses on just about every hole.
