a well maintained course
Just played 18 holes over the weekend. Fairways look good, some of them a little narrow lined with many trees. If you could hit the ball straight there is no problem. Greens are in really good shape. Plenty of drinking water is available. Definitely will come back.
good day
long from white tees, rough decent wasn't
overwhelming, bunkers kind of firm. good day
Horrible pace of play
Nice wide open course. Pace of play made it the worst golf experience I have ever had. 5:50 to play a round on a Monday at 11:20am. We had to wait 5-10 minutes before we could hit every shot. Ranger would come around but didn't want to hear anyone's complaints. People were jumping in and out of holes which made it even worse. Definitely not worth the money, and I will never be back nor recommend it to anyone I know.
Father's Day golf
Emerson GC is a nice course, with fairly tight fairways in some spots. The greens were all in good shape. The only improvement needed would be the tee boxes. They were a little beat up for so early in the season. The staff was very nice and friendly. Play was a little slow on the front nine due cart path only restrictions, that were lifted by the time we got on the back nine. Overall, Emerson is a nice short course, with some tight challenging holes. I would definitely play there again.
Course in bad shape for June
The tee boxes are horrible. The greens are fair to average. If you miss the green long, right, or left the grass is like hitting off of pavement. The fairways are average. This course is good for someone that's sprays their driver cuz there's not much out bounds. Overall I was not impressed with the course conditions for the price charged. Slim chance I would play there again.
Better than expected
After reading other reviews i was very skeptical heading into my round at Emerson. I left pleasantly surprised. Although the tee boxes were in various stages of disrepair i felt this course offered a solid value for the $'s compared to all other public courses in Bergen County. Will be back.
Not a place to play. Over priced
Not worth the money.. There are better places to play for that amount.. Staff is rude and it's very slowwww
Not much has changed
I have played this course several times over last 20 years. It has improved from say 10 years ago, but it seems to be a course that is on the decline again (or maybe its just the economy). I played a twi light special for under $40 at 3 pm. That is the most I would pay to play here. The ranger was very friendly-let me start on back 9 as it was less backed up.
Tee boxes were average condition, fairways good, greens were good overall but a couple had some visible damage. Course looked like it was close to burning out and was very firm considering the rainfall the day before and cool spring. A few holes had large areas near bunkers with those scary huge golf wasp. I actually decided to not retrieve a ball that was surrounded by these 3" wasp that were everywhere. I have to say, as many times as I have played this course, the greens are hard to read as any I have played in nj. Nothing rolls like it seems it should, but I think it is more of a accident than strategic pin placements or greens management.
I have always felt this course had potential if a new architect took over and moved some soil and changed the grass on the greens, but alas it remains what it has always been, a slightly above average golf course that is very flat, typically overpriced , has no signatures holes, and often plays slow. Advice on approach shots: Take a half club more on greens that are slightly uphill than your original instinct as well as the par 3's. They play longer than you think.
Excellent course
Will play it again next time. Graet course and well maintained,
Great Open Fairways
First time at the course and have to say it's really not that bad. The majority of holes had open fairways and were very straight.
The greens are in good shape and he hole placements were challenging enough to make you think.
The only issue I had were the roughs were not really maintain. Made finding balls a little difficult
Nice day out
Course was in good condition. Fairways are pretty forgiving, with many contiguous fairways. Which means lots of stray balls and players. But a good course for the average golfer. Great hot dogs.
Meh.....
Tee boxes and fairways seemed dried out. Understandable in August. Not in May with good weather! Turn the sprinklers on.
Greens were ok
getting better
Used to play here often..stop playing once course was sold years back. Emerson became home of the 6 hour round and horrible green conditions..after visiting the other day I was very surprised, greens were in great condition, they could have been faster but no bare or burnt patches....still slow round but overall definitely getting better.
home course
Emerson is a convenient course for me - close to home. Prices range from 40's to the 80's. Yesterday they started aerating the tee boxes while we were playing - not real convenient but they were nice about it. Overall, the course is generally in good condition - fairways always nice - edges a little dry and hardpan - greens in nice shape - putt true. I will keep going back as long as they don't get crazy with the rates. Staff is friendly and accommodating (Steve will usually find a way to work things out for you).
Very rough!!
Nice course! The rough is brutal so keep it on the fairway as it is difficult to locate your ball. Also bring plenty of fly replent ..as the gnats are relentless.
Beautiful course
Very enjoyable round. Friendly staff and excellent course conditions.
Average at best
Weeds everywhere. A few greens were dirty with leaves. Pro shop looks like it is out of business. The rangers are some of the grumpiest old men in the world.
Good Course
This is the third or fourth time I have played Emerson. It is in the best shape it has ever been since I began playing the course two years ago. The rough is high, high enough to not be able to locate your ball in it at times. The fairways were cut beautifully and well maintained. The bunkers were freshly raked on a rainy day. The greens were running very smooth. I am used to this course having very slow and bumpy greens. This year, they are cut lower and more precisely. The ball was rolling very smoothly and at good pace on a very wet day. I look forward to returning this season.
Great value.
Nice course. Pretty long and challenging. Very quick ride from the city
Needs better upkeep
I played as a single on a weekday and the course was empty, which I really enjoyed.
However, the course is not well maintained. Many bare or sandy areas even in the fairways. It looks worn out, like you'd expect at the end of the season and its just May!
The course is pretty flat and not terribly interesting; plays longer than it would seem from the yardage. I played the whites. Greens are generally slow, but they're inconsistent - as if they're not cut consistently.
