Big Met Golf Course
About
Big Met Golf Course boasts the title of being Ohio's most-played golf course. Since opening in 1926, it has hosted an impressive 6,000,000 rounds of golf. The course is nestled into the Rock River Valley along gently rolling hills. One of the course's defining features is the dike that helps to hold back the Rocky River, which can be viewed from several holes. Although the golf course as it exists now differs dramatically from the original layout thanks to numerous improvements over the years, including lengthening and remodeling the seventh and eighth holes, it has retained the same playability that has earned its reputation. Big Met Golf Course is not overly challenging but there are a few strategically placed bunkers and tricky rough areas, as well as a moderate amount of length.

Great day
Course was in excellent shape. Quick greens, smooth fairways. Not hard find the ball in the rough. Good pace of play. Good deal for the price.
Always maintained
Big Met seems to always be in good shape. They were blowing leafs off fairways the whole day we were there. Greens were in pretty good shape after being recently aerated.
pick you tee time wisely
This course is well maintain and fun to play. There are some really blah holes, but also some super fun challenging holes.
The ONLY issue is the pace of play here. Lots of seniors and very novice golfers who aren't concerned about pace of play at all.
If it played fast and was cheaper, I would recommend it. But its the closest course to my house by far, and I only consider playing on bad weather days. That doesn't say much about the course.
Somewhat of a dissapointment from a course with a good reputation
Rangers (3) playing for free and walking made no effort to let a two some riding play through. The two some eventually after the second hole skipped the third hole and went around them to the fourth hole. Bear in mind the two riders waited at both the first and second hole for them to putt out. I guess when you can play for free you don't need to care about the paying customers any more Not surprising because it happens at most of the metroparks courses.
The fairways and greens were recently aerated, the greens were puttable however the fairways were pretty torn up in spots.
Nice views from many tee's.
This course may need additional directions from greens to the next tee.........but that's all. Very good condition and panoramic views make it a must play course in the Metro Parks system.
Nice course, could use some TLC
Big Met has the potential to be superb, just like every other Cleveland Metroparks course. The layout here is of championship caliber. However, the greens were very, very bumpy. Everywhere else on the course is a bit rough around the edges as well, but the fairways, rough, and greensides are maintained. The pace of play was slow at best. But even with those downfalls, it is still an enjoyable course with lots of character. There are some tight drives and difficult putts. There are tons of birdie holes for sure, but any hole can jump up and bite at any time. Try and play during the week for a quicker round.
Muni track
I just don't know what to say: I like the course, the location, the carts, greens are okay...but there is just something uncomfortable about the place. I probably heard the word "Fore!" - more yesterday than anywhere else this entire season. Rangers reminding us to stay 30' from the greens got annoying, no beer cart girl, and although the round didn't take too long, we did wait on nearly every single shot all day long. Some tight challenging holes, some drivable par 4's, plenty of places to get in trouble, but at the same time score the round of your life. I know why I haven't played here since 2011, just too many hackers, too many people...and they move you through like cattle at a military camp.
This is a very likable golfcourse
I enjoyed playing Big Met with my brother. It was a great experience. The staff is friendly and the golfcourse is kept in great shape; I could not ask for more green grass. It was great to see the wildlife on the course including deer and geese. I wish I could snag a job here.
Nice metro parks course
Course looked pretty good for a metro parks course. Pace was pretty good for a Sunday. Got 2 rounds for $35 so it was worth the price.
Pace of play
One of the nicest Public courses in the Cleveland Area. The only negative part is it is very busy and pace of play was very slow.
staff has attitude problems
this is the second time the starter gave me a hard time about buying on line. says that it is stupid that we can buy online. even though i was there 20 min before my tee time he put a walk up in the foursome i was to play with. i was sent out with 3 nine hole players. with this starters attitude i may not play big met again.
OK Course
The course was not in bad shape but the tees could use some work, My wife, who is not a long hitter, had difficulty getting her drives to the "short grass". We have played this course when it was in better condition.
Hit it and wait.
The course itself is a fun layout with some pretty straight forward holes and a few pretty tough ones. There's not very much water or sand, but there are a number of trees and holes that will make you strategize. There are some small, challenging greens, primarily on the back 9. In my opinion, the back 9 is much more interesting than the front. If you can only play 9, my vote is for the back. I suppose my one complaint is that there are just too many (very) short par 4s. A couple of really short par 4s can be fun, but there are just too many low 300 (and one sub-300) yard holes.
The pace of play on a weekend afternoon was absolutely astonishing. It took 3.5 hours to play the front 9 and since many groups were only playing 9 holes, the back nine was pretty fast. I suppose I should have known it would be slow, but the front 9 was worse than I would have ever imagined. I have played this course early without big delays, so I guess I will stick to the early times.
The starter didn't have any idea what he was doing. I saw two twosomes teeing off within 10 minutes of each other. I played in a threesome, there were ways of consolidating these pairings and making it work out better for the pace of play. He was a nice enough guy, but I came as a single (with a tee time) and he told me to wait in the back while he was trying to send off ANOTHER TWOSOME! I basically insisted that I pair up with them since if he was going to send out twosomes on a Saturday then I might struggle to finish before 9pm with a 3 pm tee time. A course with the high number of people who play it needs a starter that can handle the stress of weekends and making pairings that make sense for the golf course.
That said, this is a fun course that will not be too difficult if you play from the fairway. I will definitely be back, but not on a weekend after lunchtime.
Extremely slow play
I enjoyed the course, but the course was packed, there was a two group wait at every tee.
If the course is congested, available tee times should not be advertised online.
narrow fairways and thick ruff.
Play was extreamely slow. If there was more than one ranger, maybe he could have increased the rate of play by pushing the slower groups.
Great Value
July 10- Due to all the rain in Cleveland this course was closed until noon (my tee time was 11:15, so we sat around till then). A couple holes in it started to rain so our day was done. The course closed for the rest of the day.
Thsi course was able to drain the rain fairly well this week.
This course a little bit of everything for the average golfer. A good challenge for distance and keeping the ball in play.
Nice course
Nice course.. ..... Greens in great condition.........
Overall great value and a great round of golf!
I would recommend this course to play for beginner to intermediate players. A seasoned golfer may find the course to be a little easier that what they are use to.
Excellent value for the golfnow discount price.
For all the play this course gets it's in remarkably good shape and it's fun to play. It's not a long course but there are plenty of places to get in trouble. Almost all fairways are tree lined. There are bunkers and water hazards to avoid. The greens play slower than most courses but they're not in bad shape. A valuable feature to this course is that it's located close by near the border of Cleveland/Fairview park. The pace of play on this day was roughly 4.5 hours. I give the Metroparks a thumbs up for keeping this fun little gem in splendid shape.
