Big Met Golf Course
About
Big Met Golf Course boasts the title of being Ohio's most-played golf course. Since opening in 1926, it has hosted an impressive 6,000,000 rounds of golf. The course is nestled into the Rock River Valley along gently rolling hills. One of the course's defining features is the dike that helps to hold back the Rocky River, which can be viewed from several holes. Although the golf course as it exists now differs dramatically from the original layout thanks to numerous improvements over the years, including lengthening and remodeling the seventh and eighth holes, it has retained the same playability that has earned its reputation. Big Met Golf Course is not overly challenging but there are a few strategically placed bunkers and tricky rough areas, as well as a moderate amount of length.

Big Met
I had a great time, the course is somewhat challenging.
Don't let people off the back nine!!!!!
I can't believe how they operate at this place. We played the front nine in 1.5 hours. When we got to #10, we had to wait for 3 groups to tee off. And of course they all hit the ball 7-8 times per hole. Not only that, they had to waist several minutes looking for balls. It was unbelievable. Please don't let people go off the back nine during prime time play. Over 5 hours for 18 holes after 1.5 hours on the front. Great job Big Met staff/starter.
Fun, playable course with a good mix of holes.
Fairways and greens were in very good shape. Rough was deeper than normal.
Get ready for a long round at "Big Wait"
Big met was in decent shape except for the aerated greens, which they and ALL courses should offer discounted rates anytime they have holes and sand on the greens, but the big problem was the lack of pace of play at this course, which is always a problem. They really need to do something about this, maybe put some rangers out there that actually keep the pace of play instead of looking for balls in the woods! They don't call this place "Big Wait" for nothing! Don't get me wrong, I really like the layout and its usually in pretty good shape, but it's always a marathon round. Staff was really friendly and I love the clubhouse!
Layout isn't bad but crowded.
Being the most popular course in Ohio, playing 18 is always drawn out. The course itself isn't bad but because of the crowds and the high prices, it isn't much of a value course.
Also, they had aerated the greens prior to my round, it was like putting on the surface of the moon.
Always Crowded
Year after year, this course has the most rounds played in the State of Ohio (proven fact). Expect to play a 5 hour round due to many novice players playing. A good course to work on your iron game. Driver is not needed on most of the holes. Greens are extremely slow. Very good course for people just getting into golf.
Fairways great but grass in rough a little high.
I find the fairways to be great but if you were in the tough the grass was a little high, on certain holes. Greens still coming around. Some Tee boxes need attention.
Great Course . . . Great Layout
This is a very nice course. It is a classic layout so it is not overly long. Layout is nice. No force carry over water. But it is not a gimme. You have the work for par. Accuracy over distance is the name of the game.
Early Season Review
For early in the season, Big Met isn't in terrible shape. It also isn't in mid season shape, but they are charging mid season rates. I was able to get a bit of a discount using golf now, but was disappointed it wasn't more in early April. The greens are still recovering from late last season maintenance and the fairways and rough areas are no where near mid season form. The course is fine to play for a warm-up round, but I wouldn't gauge your score based on the conditions, and I also wouldn't pay full price to play here. If you can find a good golf now rate, do it; Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Most beauty for your buck
This city course is located in a beautiful wooded area of Cleveland not too far from the airport. Staff was friendly and course was fun.
No starters & Slow play at Met
We smoked through the front nine in a hour and a half only to find the back nine piled up with nine hole Players who jumped on the back. We played only 2 holes on the back because the play was so slow. Cleveland Metro parks do a wonderful job taking care of all the metro courses but they really need to take a look at speeding up play. This year it's been really bad at both Big Met & Sleepy Hollow. I know these are public courses but the skill level of some of these players is not conducive to the course.
This course has great features
Being a newcomer, I thought the course was really good challenging but still wide open enough. I didn't have to take any drops from lost balls in the woods or water.
Most played public course in Ohio
Another well taken care of metroparks course. Rounds are usually long due to number and ability of players. If they cut the fairways a bit wider and dropped the rough even a half inch, it would definitely speed up play.
Nice Course
I have played here several times and it is always well-maintained and a good challenge. For the time of year, the course was in good shape and the grounds crew did pretty well in keeping the leaves off the fairways. I had to wait a few times for grounds crew activity on the greens, but this didn't bother me, and is to be expected this time of year. The one worry I have when playing here is that the pace of play can be slow, despite the course's best efforts, but this time everything was moving fast. A great way to spend a beautiful fall day.
good place to practice
There our 3 to4 real nice holes that our risk or reward holes.
Staff friendly and professional, course well-maintained
I would strongly recommend this course. The price is right, the staff are very cordial and the course is well maintained
Great!! First year I have played and I will return!!
Great!! First year I have played and I will return!!
I am proud of Metro Parks for taking care of this course!! Please do the same for the other courses in the system!!
quality course
The staff was very friendly. The course was well maintained. Played fast. Only negative would be playing early in the morning. There are about 5 tee boxes that are blinded by the sun.
Great public course
Big Met is a great course for it layout and play-ability. It when you get to the starter's box that you find out how long or fast the course is playing at that time. Walk-on can be scary has it may be someone's birthday and they haven't played since their last birthday. But I concerned it my home course because it's a only blocks away.
Good course excrutiatingly slow
On a Sunday, this course not only allowed walkers but older walkers. The round took over 5 1/2 hours to play. There is no way it should ever take more than 4 hours. It was ridiculous. The snack bar is the same for those making the turn as those that are done so we waited in line for 15 minutes to get a dog and a beer at the turn, however it didn't matter because we still had to wait to tee off !!!
Couldn't agree with you more. They have always let 9 hole hackers off the back and will never stop. I refuse to play there and I live a 3 minute drive away. It's way overpriced too. I cant believe people pay 44.00 to play a 6 hour round.
