Highland Park Red
When ever a course reverts back to being run by a city instead of a golf management group you are going to have maintenance problems. The course has come back quite a lot from when it reopened on July. The layout is challenging and the course is rather scenic and historic having been built in the 20s. The staff is very polite and professional. This course should be in much better condition by next year.
Nothing to brag about
Course not in the best shape. Even worse after a rain. Very empty and neglected pro shop. Lot of people jumping holes doing whatever they want.
Not what it used to be
Course staff was very friendly. However, the course was in the worst condition I have seen in years. Fairways were extremely dry with numerous dead patches and the greens were very inconsistent. Got the round for $10 on golfnow, so I wasn't too upset about the condition of the course. I would not pay full price to play there.
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
Do not let the cheap price fool you. I have played this course about 6 times and the condition of the course the last two times were horrible. Greens were dried out to the point of the ground cracking. I can't believe how far what ever company owns this course has let it go. The fairways were just as bad. Patches of no grass and dried cracked mud. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE.
Inexpensive through golf now
This course is a good value with a discount, otherwise I would not recommend it.
Great value!
I got a great deal on a round of 18, and has a blast!! Super fun, great carts, great greens, and I will be back!
Terrible staff friendliness.
Their staff was incredibly rude and unfriendly. Had to wait 30 min for one hole. Will never golf here again and would recommend others not to also.
Nothing to write home about
I played Highland (Red) on a Saturday morning. Its a muni course owned by the City of Cleveland. The course is surprisingly hilly eventhough its located in the city. The greens were just ok. Some greens had bare spots and there were tons of divot marks that went un repaired. I had never played the course before so I wanted to give it a try. It wasn't horrible but lets just say that I doubt I would play the course again.
Not bad if you get a deal
I've golfed here a few times in the past. This was by far the best experience. The first 2 times I had issues with waiting even though I had a tee time and rude staff..
Today's round was better. Played the red course. Young man inside working the front desk was friendly and accommodating.
The greens were overall in good shape besides the 2 holes that were covered in goose droppings lol..
Overall I'd say highland park is fun to play. there are a few par 4s that can be reached with a decent drive.. Weekday pace was pretty fast. If you get a deal definitely check out highland park.. They have to win me over before I recommend my own friends to play there.
The worst golf course I've ever been to
The course is in abysmal condition. The fairways have heaps of dead grass on them. The rough is littered with dandelions and weeds. Just kiss your ball goodbye if it lands in the rough. It looks like it hasn't been cut in two weeks. The pace of play was very slow. No doubt because of the course conditions. Please stay away. I'll never go back again.
Fun course, but unkempt.
This course would be great if it were maintained better. Starting with the greens. The same old black patches and rough spots from ten years ago.
On hole 10 on the red course the small bridge over the creek is uncrossable and blocked. I had to drive over to a hole on the blue course to go around the creek.
Besides that, I still love those long par 3's. The short and elevated par 4's, and the small unforgiving greens.
Decent for hot deal price
I played 18 with a cart on red course. Was early in the season and got the deal for $13 including tax. Course was still a couple weeks from being good. Cart paths don't exist on some holes and your second shot will be blind on a couple, front and back. Wasn't crowed but had it been would have been sketchy unless you ride up or walk to view the green before your second shot.
This course has it all.
Hills, water, and tree lined fairways. The sand traps were all in the right places for me, because I didn't find myself in any of them. Had a great time.
Not bad. Much better!
I haven't played this course since 2005 and back then it was a nightmare. I played there for the first time in nearly 10 years, and it was like night and day. Granted, the course was packed with a tournament and lots of outside play being that it was beautiful out and the Browns were off this week. I was paired up with a three ball that was the nicest people ever. One of them was an employee of Twin Lakes (Tony) so we swapped war stories of being in the golf business. It was packed and slow, but the staff did a phenomenal job getting people out. Sometimes, you can't control it. But what a great job by the staff! The course itself is a work in progress. Much better than a few years ago. The greens need a little more work, but they were ok. We didn't finish all 18 holes due to daylight, but the 15 holes we played were very nice. Special thanks to the staff once again!
Great Golf Value
I booked a fire sale rate through Golf Now and it was an excellent value, the best I've had this summer. The course was in good condition and the groundskeepers were making improvements I could see through my round. The greens were well kept and putted true.
rainy days here again
Course was quite wet, but couldn't be helped because of the amount of rain. In okay condition, but staff need some work. I played the red course and was sent to start on the back nine. When I came around to the first hole I was asked by a different member what I was doing and did I have proof of paying. Explained the situation and he was quite skeptical. Good thing I had the receipt in my pocket. As it was I had to wait behind two groups when there was essentially no one else on the course.
great greens
Highland has some of the best greens I have ever putted on for a public course. Very true and very well kept. Sometimes the pace pf play is slow, but over all its a good course for the money.
lots of uneven lies
Many fairways have undulating slopes & hills that are a challenge. Ones feet are frequently above or below the ball. The rough is fairly long & in some places the grass cuttings line the fairways.
The course seems wide open on weekdays.
Use a cart unless you are young and fit.
highland park
I played the blue side so this only applies to it. The course was average at best. Greens were ok but had sand spots more so on the perimeter. About half the holes do not have a cart path.
