A little rough, but good playabity.
Good layout could be a little better maintained. Definitely on my like to play list.
Bring a cushion for your tailbone
I've played about 40 different courses and this might be the worst yet! You need an ATV to handle the dilapidated cart path. Not to mention the bridge transitions feel like a head-on collision with a semi. Fairways had standing water and mud tracks. The only positives were that the greens were in good shape and it wasn't busy, likely because the course stinks.
Blue
Course layout was good. First and last holes were not fair. Can't have holes over 400 yards and not be able to hit driver. Greens were excellent, course overall wet due to a lot of rain this spring. Will definitely be back to try the Red course. Recommend this a a low key hidden gem if you live in the area.
Highland Blues
Highland Park Blue is a great course. Plays long. You have to be long off the tee for a mid iron to the green, even from the whites. Great park setting. It’s weird 9 ends in the middle of nowhere, so it’s a haul back if you’re only playing 9. Cart paths need a complete overhaul. I heard that’s coming. Updated clubhouse is very nice. It’s a great, inexpensive round in NE Ohio.
More money for the same thing
I've been playing highland park for years and one of the biggest gripes I have with the blue course is the random holes on the fairways that could easily be filled. It was tolerable due to price but since they raised prices I would expect more for the price.
Confidence in management and upgrade
The management company hired by the city is doing a terrific job. The blue course still has some condition issues, often caused by mis-driven carts, but is still fun to play. (Most of the effort until now has gone into the red course both before and after its redesign. I suspect they will turn to the fairways on the blue course next.)Greens miraculously have remained very nice through the years. Especially nice for those who like a more open course offering fewer opportunities for penalties. Customer service is also friendly and customer focused.
Course looks great, clubhouse too
Place looks great and is much improved under new ownership
No...Just No
I can't think of a course in worse shape that I've ever played in 45 years. Greens were like shag carpets with patches of rough. Fairways were swamps. They charge $26 to walk for seniors and that's the winter rate! Also be careful if you find a deal, it's probably for walking only. They haven't removed a single broken tree branch from the fairways. The management is obviously doing a cash grab as long as they can get away with it.
Former PGA tour location.
Other than the tee box extensions, course design is simple and fun. Greens are not goofy golf like some of the metropark courses I won't mention.
Don’t play 9
I played 9 holes here and it does not finish at the club house. We were walking because carts were not an option and we had to walk 1.3 miles across 3-4 different holes to get back to the clubhouse.
Temper expectations
Was hesitant to come here as the recent review this year have been very negative. I found the staff to be pleasant and pace of play was not an issue. Course conditions as many reviews mention are not great, many spots of dead grass and at times significant holes in the ground. I did not find this to impact my play as the greens were in reasonably good condition and in the few instances my ball hit a rough spot of fairway I just moved it a few feet. Tee boxes were serviceable and the cart paths are definitely a little rough. All in all with the hot deal the price was okay for an urban course and I would return. If course conditions are a major factor then I would not recommend but for a causal golfer who wants a fun round i see no issue, they are doing a construction project after all. Blue Course btw!
Management
Austin and his team are doing a great job. The golf course has come a long way. The greens were magnificent and the fairways was also the magnificent. I was also shocked by the restaurant. They have a real chef now the gumbo was also excellent. They also have a live entertainment on the weekends. You get your moneys worth when you pay Highland Park Golf Course.
Great potential
I really enjoy the course, but the cart paths are horrible. Either fill with gravel or some type of material. I think my teeth are loose. I think the greens are great most fairways are well above average.
