Regulation Eighteen at Shawnee Hills Golf Course

About
Shawnee Hills is home to two different golf courses, an 18-hole regulation course and a nine-hole, par-3 layout. The 18-hole course has a front nine that plays across gently rolling hills accented with water hazards while the back nine presents a different set of challenges with more dramatic hills covered with forests of mature pines, maples, and oaks. The scenic Deer Lick Creek also runs alongside the back holes. The second half of the golf course definitely has more of a Carolina-feel to it while the front nine is more like a Florida course. The back is a bit tougher than the first half of the course, but wide fairways throughout make it a fairly forgiving layout overall, though the golf course boasts what may be the toughest hole in the Cleveland Metroparks, the par-4 fourth. This dogleg left hole plays uphill and demands accuracy with a line of trees on either side.

Golf cart manager
Pull up after 3:20 round and were told to hurry up and unload , 1:00 tournament shotgun start or something . Dude read the room , nobody from outing even waiting around . If you want to apology for being a jerk , do it with sincerity . I play a good amount of golf and respect the golf course but rude service will cost you players . I would like a follow up . Here’s an idea , how about a thank you and have a nice day . “Unload your stuff , I need the cart.” Not golf etiquette
Straight Shooters Dream
If you don’t stay in the fairway, you will not like playing here. The rough is too tall and makes advancing the ball very difficult. Slows down play looking for balls in excessively tall grass. I know this is a Metro Park golf course, but the grass in the rough should not be US Open Golf Championship length!
Lush Rough
Great course layout. Staff and food were great. Combo meal at the turn is a good deal and includes alcohol. Pace of play was 4 hours. Only complaint was that the rough was so high all around the course and always right next to the fairways. If you were not in the fairway is very difficult to find a ball or advance it with a swing. This is Cleveland Metro Parks course and not used for any US open Championship. Cut the grass!!
Wide open
Played day after substantial rain but fairways and greens were fairly dry. Course is pretty much wide open with no water and few trees. Very good for beginners or intermediate golfers.
April Golf
Course in good condition for April. Pace of play was pretty good for how busy it was.
Improvements made
It is great that the cart paths are now paved. Makes for a much more pleasant outing. Course is in great shape.
Poor lawn maintenance, cracked and dry fairways and super fast/tough greens
Not sure what happened this summer into fall but most of the fairways are have substantial burnt and dead grass with cracked and split ground. Makes hitting off the fairway worse than the rough sometimes or there's a sudden stoppage of ball roll due to getting stuck in a crevice. Greens were rock hard and landing a solid pitch even 20 yards before the pin risked running the ball off the green!! And to make matters worse, the pace of play was so slow we literally waited anywhere between 5-15 mins just to tee off at each hole, really killed the flow of the whole day.
Bed condition the course.
I couldn't enjoy the game because I had to mulch the entire course and sprinkle sand on the green. It was supposed to be 18 holes, but I played 9 holes twice.
Horrendous greens at expensive price
Greens were recently punched, which is fine except the sand fill was done poorly and the green fees associated were the same price as usual. There should have been a big deduction. Playing in those greens made the round relatively bad. Other than greens the course was great. The starter had a terrible attitude towards the players though which was very off putting. I think that if the greens were not recently airated and the starter wasn’t an old grumpy good for nothing man, then the experience would have been 5 stars all around!! No doubt.
Airiated and not told
The course was in a horrible condition. Fairways full of fresh airriated cores and the the greens sanded some as much as beaches. On top of that they had sprinklers going on 4, 5 and 7 so hard to play around it. Shoes has .5 " of clay/soil under them.
The cart guy complaining it takes him 25 minutes to clean a cart. Normally we like this course but for the next week to 10 days, stay away
