Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

good golf course
we (4some) play this course first time, this course is maintained very well, field way is nice, and the green is fast and difficult, layout is so special compare to other courses we play, it's a difficult course, if you get off the field way, usually you need to add one more shot to get off those hills, sands and trees.
but overall, we enjoy the play, a very good experience playing there.
Great Course
Started this season at Fox Hollow and I am happy I did it! From their friendly staff to rolling greens and giant fairways, this course is all-around a great time!
Bring your putting skill
Course is in great shape thanks to warm winter weather. Fairways are in good shape. Even though greens are little beat up still in good shape considering it's end of December. Many greens are small and challenging due to pin placement being mostly located in slope angle. Bring your sharp eyes and putting skill to avoid 3 putts. Played only twice but, will come back for more if GolfNow continues to offer great hot deal!!
Decent layout, greens in poor condition
It is always difficult to judge a golf course during the winter season, because conditions will never be optimal. The fairways and tee boxes were in fairly decent condition, but the greens were kind of embarrassing. There was debris, goose droppings, anthills, etc. that made every putt an adventure. It was too wet to cut the greens and that is understandable. No attempt was made to clean off the greens. This course has an interesting layout with 5 or 6 really interesting holes. Other holes appear to be shoe-horned onto the property. Both nines finish with a par 3, which is highly unusual, but interesting for betting purposes. I would play the course again, but would suggest that the greens get some more TLC in the future.
Great course
Excellent golf course. Well kept. Pin placements very tough (due to grass no longer growing). Will def go back..
The more I play it, the more I like it.
Course is in great condition. Greens are quick. Beware of the down hill putt. Every hole makes you think where to be in the fairway.
Excellent course condition even in the winter
The course condition is unbelievably good. The course condition is as good as that in the summer. You don't find the ball hiding under the tree leaves. Green is as good and fast as in the summer. In particular, the good price from Golfnow makes even sweater.
Fantastic !!
Heard about it from many other random golfers and finally got the chance to get up there. It was a far ride from south jersey, but well worth it, especially the $40 HotDeal. I'm pretty sure this course is around $100. Would take the trip again !
This course has somewhat challenging but enjoyed
I've played this course at first time and it looked to me a nice & challenging course with hilly layout, up and down and side to side course. Anyhow, I'll play this course again sometimes next year.
Fall Golf
Those that have played golf in the fall as the leaves are coming down know the challenges of the season. The course was in very good shape considering the time of year. This is not a course for beginners. There a lot of elevation changes and difficult fairway lies. The greens were in terrific condition and were not giving away any easy putt's. Pace of play was a little slow which was frustrating on a day when the sun did not come out and it get's dark early.
This is a very scenic course and I am sure during the Spring & Summer months a gorgeous place to play.
Nice to play on a Private Course for a change
I play a lot of Public Golf Courses and you can't compare them to a Private facility. I wish I could play Private Courses like this one all the time. Better Fairways, Greens, and Sand Bunkers.
excellent conditions, great course
This was a great golf course that I will play again. The conditions all around were some of the best I've seen. Greens were fast - rolled very true.
Only issue was that three of the greens had too much slope - but other than that it was among the best course conditions I've been on in a while.
Put on your hiking boots!
Fox Hollow is a very well kept course that I enjoyed playing. All of the hills and blind shots were quite challenging, but overall a good experience. The greens, while in excellent condition, were very difficult to play, as the slope was killer of our scores. Even 4-5 foot putts could turn into disasters, as your ball rolls 20 feet away. Next time we will know and I look forward to playing at Fox Hollow again.
Well worth the money
Great course. We were very impressed with the layout and the condition of the course was great. Very friendly staff. I rented clubs, they were a bit pricy and a bit mismatched. Overall A+
Skirted through the Rain
My buddy and I really liked this course. Somewhat challenging but not overly taxing. Played from the whites because we were not familiar with the course. Finished in just over 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon, but it was threatening rain all day and that probably kept people away. Would go back at the Golfnow price of $55 per including cart anytime, but the course conditions warrant the higher regular price tag.
What a butiful coure
This course is an absolute gem. It is in the best condition of any course I have played in New Jersey. I played on a day that it was lightly raining and it was empty bit there were no draining issues or flooding. The tee boxes were perfect and the greens were immaculate. There are a lot of hills and a lot of challenging blind shots with toughly placed hazards. It makes for a great play on a great course.
Value depends on the price
For the listed retail price of $105, I don't think this course would be worth it, but we got it for more than half off, which made it a steal. It's a formerly fully private course that's now "semi private" (so basically public), it seems to be trying to find its price point. It was really, really empty, I mean so empty my group didn't see another group the entire day on the course, which I thought was unusual for a Tuesday after a holiday. The place was beatufiul, though, excellent design, lots of up and downs. There are six par 3's, which might bother some I guess. Fairly challenging, but not overly penal, either. The place was really well kept, nice and green even after a very long dry stretch. It'd be great in the fall, too.
The only downside is that this area of New Jersey is really in this weird inacessible spot, like unless you live there, it takes you an hour to get there. Strange!
Needs work
I was excited to play this course as I had read good things. I was disappointed. The staff was friendly and the course looked good from afar but that was it. The bunkers were abysmal, no sand, hard and not maintained. I was in a fairway bunker that was like concrete but it had moss growing on it. The greens were punched about a week prior but not consistent from hole to hole. The worst part was the wet conditions. It was from over watering which actually started again while I was playing. I actually had a pitch shot splash on a green, walked up and it was like a wet sponge. Add to that the fact that the group in front of us was terribly slow, had 2 holes open in front of them, never waived us up and there was no ranger to be found. For what I paid ($67) I felt cheated.
